Samsung Electronics unveiled its new CJG5 curved gaming monitor at Gamescom 2018, held from August 21 to 25. Samsung is exhibiting its advanced gaming monitor line-up equipped with super ultra-wide CHG90 experience zone under the theme, “Wider View. Winning Play.” Held in Cologne, Germany, Gamescom is one of the world’s largest gaming trade shows that attracted more than 350 thousand visitors from more than 50 countries, last year alone.

The newly-developed CJG5 32-inch(C32JG5) and 27-inch(C27JG5) monitors feature key gaming technologies such as WQHD high resolution, curved display, 144Hz refresh rate and a high contrast ratio. Globally available in the third quarter of 2018, the bezel-less, game-optimized CJG5 provides a completely smooth and immersive gaming experience at a reasonable and affordable price backed by Samsung’s technology expertise.

“Due to the rapidly increasing demands of gaming monitors, we sought to offer competitively-priced gaming monitors for more users to benefit from premium technology,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With the technological expertise that we have accumulated throughout the years, we are making efforts to accelerate the gaming features such as 144Hz and high WQHD resolution, which will be appreciated by the mass market.”

The CJG5 features WQHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440), which is four times higher than HD, delivering precise and life-like images with deeper blacks, brighter whites, and vibrant colors, as well as a high contrast ratio of 3000:1. Paired with a curved VA panel and three-sided bezel-less design, the CJG5 completes an immersive environment that provides the most engaging gaming experience and minimizes eye fatigue. Furthermore, the 1800R curvature that minimizes eye fatigue by reducing the change in the user’s focal distance. By imitating a real-life view, the CJG5 helps users who swiftly move their focus while playing games, even over prolonged periods.

The 144Hz frame rate enables extremely responsive graphics and a lag-free environment that enriches the gaming experience. The game and cinema modes automatically optimize the black gamma level, contrast, sharpness and saturation for any genre of games and movies. Users can also instantly check and control key settings during the game with ease, using the game-dedicated On Screen Display (OSD) dashboard menu with game style UI.

At Gamescom 2018, visitors can take a look at the CJG5 gaming monitor in Europe at Samsung’s Gamescom booth (Hall 10.1 Stand A100) and Ubisoft’s booth (Hall 06.1 Stand B021, A020). Samsung partners with Ubisoft, PUBG Corp.(Hall 09.1 Stand A060, C061), Warner Bros(Hall 10.2 Stand B026), Deep Silver(Hall 09.1 Stand A012), Square Enix(Hall 09.1 Stand B041), and Logitech(Hall 10.1 Stand D050) will present various gaming contents on Samsung gaming monitors including CJG5. The Samsung experience zones will be available at both partners’ and Samsung’s booths, in which gamers can find an ultimate gaming experience with the 49-inch super ultra-wide CHG90. The CHG90 is the world’s largest QLED curved gaming monitor, with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms Moving Picture Response Time(MPRT) that was unveiled at Gamescom 2017.

“We are delighted to team up with Samsung to support our game Dakar 18 at Gamescom 2018,” said Paulo J. Gomes, Director and Producer of Bigmoon Studios from Deep Silver. “The world’s largest QLED gaming monitor, CHG90 with a 49-inch super ultra-wide screen, enables us to display the beauty of the vast open world in Dakar 18, based on the actual landscape of Peru, Bolivia and Argentina in an amazing picture quality.”

When it first made its debut on the Galaxy S8, Samsung’s Infinity Display introduced an entirely new framework for smartphone design. The sleek, quad-edge screen epitomized the concept of boundary-pushing innovation, setting new standards for user comfort and immersion by banishing bezels and allowing the phone’s display to elegantly flow over its sides.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ build on that innovative heritage with enhancements that not only foster captivating visuals, but also truly realistic audio. Let’s take a closer look at how Samsung’s refinements to the devices’ displays and sound systems have made it even easier for users to immerse themselves in their favorite content.

A Refined Infinity Display

Both the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9 and the 6.2-inch S9+ feature Samsung’s latest Super AMOLED Infinity Displays, which feature key refinements that magnify the beauty and immersive qualities of the Galaxy smartphones’ signature screen.

The Infinity Display is characterized by its smooth, spacious design, which seamlessly curves at the edges to blend into the Galaxy S9’s body and lends the device its beautiful, highly ergonomic form. Films, shows and video clips are captivating when viewed on the 18.5:9, HDR (High Dynamic Range) capable display, whose impeccable accuracy allows such content to be presented exactly as creators intended.

When designing the new displays, Samsung focused on adjustments that would enable users to enjoy even more engrossing viewing experiences. This led Samsung to trim down the already small bezels at the top and bottom of the device, and make the screen itself a deeper black, so as to blend in with the bezels when the device is off. The bezels have also been refined to conceal features that could possibly detract from users’ immersion, such as the device’s iris sensor.

Adaptive Contrast Enhancement is another immersion-amplifying addition that allows the display to provide crisp visuals even in direct sunlight. This offers users more freedom to comfortably consume the content they want, when they want.

To make using the device even more comfortable, the Galaxy S9 also introduces a new Landscape Mode, which allows the home screen and app tray to adjust their orientation when the phone is held at an angle. This feature is particularly useful when a user who is watching a video navigates to the home screen to find another app.

The durability of the devices’ screens and bodies has also been enhanced. In addition to utilizing a high-strength aluminum alloy that offers protection from external impacts, Samsung reinforced both phones with thicker Corning© Gorilla© Glass 5 on their fronts, as well as more scratch-resistant side metal frames.

Cinematic Sound

Because smartphones are increasingly becoming our go-to platforms for entertainment, a top-flight display alone won’t quite cut it. In order to enjoy a truly cinematic mobile viewing experience, we need a premium sound system to complement the display – one that makes it easy for us to immerse ourselves in whatever content we’re consuming.

To enable users to experience true auditory immersion, Samsung placed powerful, AKG-tuned stereo speakers at the bottom and earpiece of the Galaxy S9. Together, the speakers pump out audio that’s not only loud, but also rich and balanced, no matter the volume.

This means that whether you’re streaming the latest binge-worthy show or jamming out to a new playlist, you can count on the Galaxy S9 to provide high-quality audio that keeps you engaged and makes your show, song, or podcast that much more enjoyable.

The Galaxy S9 also features a Dolby Atmos effect that gives users listening through headphones or the device’s speakers the sensation that they’re experiencing 360-degree surround sound. The clever feature carefully analyzes how key variables affect the audio in order to create the most immersive sound experience possible.

The function enriches both Dolby Atmos-exclusive content as well as various other forms of media, and may easily be toggled on or off.

More Tools to Multitask

The Galaxy S9 also features an array of useful functions specifically designed to make it easy for users to multitask using the Infinity Display.

Galaxy users are by now long acquainted with Multi-Window, a convenient feature that enables users to simultaneously manage two windows on their screen for increased efficiency. Edge Lighting Notifications add a new layer of utility to this function by allowing users to easily manage incoming messages while enjoying their favorite content.

With Edge Lighting Notifications, once a message comes in, users are presented with an icon that they may pull down to instantly launch a Multi-Window. This allows them to view their message and compose a reply without needing to navigate away from the website that they were viewing, or falling behind in their movie, show or game.

That multi-app versatility is also the key benefit of App Pair, a convenient feature that quickly became a fan favorite when it was introduced on the Galaxy Note8. App Pair lets users create custom pairs of apps that they can launch simultaneously from the Edge panel or their home screen. This means that with a single tap, a user could instantly launch their music and navigation apps as they began their morning commute, or open their Internet and messaging apps to coordinate dinner with friends.

The Galaxy S9’s powerful combination of sound and display innovations offers users premium multimedia and multitasking experiences without compromise.

Samsung Electronics today announced it has installed its first ever commercial Cinema LED Screen at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Korea. Designed as a High Dynamic Range (HDR) LED theater display, the Cinema LED Screen creates a more captivating and vibrant viewing experience through next-generation picture quality and true-to-life audio thanks to collaboration between HARMAN Professional Solutions and Samsung Audio Lab.

“Through sharper and more realistic colors, complementary audio and an elevated presentation, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture,” said HS Kim, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to partner with Lotte Cinema to bring this technology to theater-goers, and look forward to continuing to shape the cinema of the future.”

Stretching nearly 10.3m (33.8ft) wide in size, the Cinema LED Screen accommodates a variety of theater configurations while ensuring superior levels of technical performance, reliability and quality. The display brings the visual power of HDR picture quality to the big screen, and enlivens content with both ultra-sharp 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160) and peak brightness levels (146fL) nearly 10 times greater than that offered by standard projector technologies. Additionally, the Cinema LED Screen’s futuristic, distortion-free presentation leverages ultra-contrast and low-tone grayscale settings to showcase the brightest colors, deepest blacks and most pristine whites at a nearly infinite contrast ratio.

To go with the stunning video technology within the ‘SUPER S’ theater of Lotte Cinema, Samsung has paired its Cinema LED Screen with state-of-the-art audio technologies from JBL by HARMAN. This integration includes powerful speakers bordering the screen, proprietary audio processing technology, and JBL’s Sculpted Surround system, producing an unparalleled sight and sound experience the way the content creators intended.

As demands within the cinema space evolve, Samsung’s Cinema LED Screen offers the versatility to expand services to meet a wider range of audience needs. The display maintains its advanced presentation capabilities in a range of dark and ambient lighting conditions. This flexibility makes the Cinema LED Screen ideal for venues wishing to use their theater space for corporate events, concerts, sports event viewing and gaming competitions.

“‘SUPER S’ theater is a new paradigm of movie screening,” said Wonchun Cha, Lotte Cinema CEO. “We look forward to working with Samsung to introduce new, high-quality technology to the movie industry in the future, and we are excited to drive customer satisfaction through an improved viewing environment that brings a variety of content to life.”

Prior to its commercial debut, Samsung ran the Cinema LED Screen through a series of the industry’s most rigorous tests to validate its performance and presentation. In May 2017, the Cinema LED Screen became the first product to achieve full compliance with the highly-esteemed Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) theater technology standards prior to its commercial release. This certification acknowledges the display’s ability to showcase the complete color spectrum with unaltered accuracy.

DisplayMate Technologies has released the results of its comprehensive evaluation of the Galaxy S8’s Infinity Display, concluding that Samsung’s new flagship possesses “the best-performing smartphone display that we have ever tested.” The Galaxy S8 is the latest Galaxy device to garner a superlative distinction from the industry’s screen authority, having earned DisplayMate’s highest-ever A+ grade.

The report, drafted by DisplayMate President Dr. Raymond M. Soneira, provides point-by-point analysis of the device’s high-performance hardware, as well as the advanced features and functions that allow its display to offer a peerless visual experience.

The Galaxy S8 earned top marks thanks to the record-setting specs of its curved, full-screen OLED display, which nearly fills the entire front face of the smartphone from edge to edge. In order to provide users with more screen space, the home button has been incorporated within the screen itself, which measures 5.8 inches (6.2 inches in the S8+) and boasts an 18.5:9 aspect ratio, adding new levels of immersion to the viewing experience.

Video content is even more vivid and engaging thanks to the Galaxy S8’s new, high-saturation ‘Deep Red’ OLED, which provides significantly higher color saturation. This creates a larger native color gamut – measuring 113 percent of DCI-P3 and 142 percent of sRGB/Rec. 709*; the highest DisplayMate has ever measured in a smartphone or tablet – that allows the screen to portray high-definition content accurately, in a manner in line with what creators intended.

The 2960 x 1440, 570 pixel-per-inch Quad HD+ display features the highest resolution currently available in a smartphone with an OLED display, and produces crystal clear images under all normal viewing conditions. The Galaxy S8 is also the first smartphone to receive the UHD Alliance’s ‘Mobile HDR Premium’ certification, which attests the screen’s ability to bring vibrant HDR content to life. This is possible in part due to its record-high peak brightness, which amounts to, as Dr. Soneira noted, “the brightest smartphone display that we have ever measured.”

The Galaxy S8 produces up to 1,020 nits under high ambient light conditions – such as bright sunlight – and boasts a screen reflectance of just 4.5 percent, which ranks among the lowest DisplayMate has ever measured. In addition, the screen’s combination of high brightness and low reflectance equate an ambient light contrast rating of 227 – “the highest that we have ever measured for any smartphone display.”

Users may get their hands on the Galaxy S8 as well as the S8+ and experience the devices’ immersive Infinity Displays for themselves beginning on April 21st.

*The Galaxy S8 features four screen modes calibrated for different content, applications and user preferences. These measurements reflect the devices’ default screen mode, ‘Adaptive Display’.

Thanks to a partnership with Samsung Electronics, visitors to the Sydney Opera House may now enjoy access to unique artistic and cultural content illuminating the legendary venue’s storied tradition and delivered through eye-catching LED signage.

Samsung expanded its presence at the landmark this year with the opening of The Lounge enabled by Samsung, a new meeting place located in the heart of the Opera House that features stylish, comfortable seating, as well as interactive displays and exclusive digital content. The centerpiece of the new lounge is Samsung’s IL020F fine pixel pitch LED signage, which forms a large-format (4m x 2m) display that is designed to draw visitors’ attention to a specially commissioned digital artwork.

A ‘Landmark’ Visual Experience

The Lounge marks Samsung’s first Smart LED display panel deployment in Australia, and is one of a number of technologies being trialed as part of the Sydney Opera House’s $202 million renewal plans. Backed by the government of New South Wales, the renewal program will transform the cultural icon for the next generation of artists, audiences and visitors. A multi-venue performing arts center adjacent to Sydney Harbour, the Sydney Opera House is among the most recognizable landmarks in the city, hosting more than 2,000 performances and welcoming 1.2 million visitors on site each year.

Samsung Australia, the Opera House’s first and only principal technology partner, collaborated with the venue to design The Lounge in a way that would enhance the visitor experience while preserving the integrity of its structure and brand.

“[The Lounge] is an early milestone in renewing the experience for our visitors, and highlights the importance of collaboration in transforming the Opera House experience,” said Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Wilson. “With Samsung’s support, we have a wonderful opportunity to trial the latest technology while creating a more welcoming environment for visitors.”

Samsung’s IL020F LED signage presents a deeper exploration into the landmark’s story through an original digital artwork that draws on the history, inspiration and design of the Opera House as well as the performances held within it. Content includes a vast library of past performances, photos and interviews all brought to life by the high-resolution displays, which leverage the same technologies employed in Samsung’s televisions and LCD screens to deliver vibrant and consistent visuals.

Signs of Collaborations to Come

In addition to The Lounge, Samsung and the Sydney Opera House have agreed to collaborate over the next five years on further initiatives to improve the landmark and provide visitors with the best possible experience.

“The Lounge enabled by Samsung is an incredibly exciting way for Australians and tourists from all over the world to experience what the Sydney Opera House has to offer,” said Phillip Newton, Corporate Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Australia. “We are proud to work in partnership with the Sydney Opera House to enrich the experience of millions of visitors through our most advanced and immersive technology.”

Beyond IL020F LED signage, Samsung’s presence in The Lounge includes a virtual-reality station that transports users to the top of the Opera House’s famous exterior sails, as well as a ‘Cultural Institute’ station, where Samsung’s Galaxy View and Galaxy Tab S2 tablets allow visitors to cycle through more than 50 online exhibits highlighting the landmark’s past, present and future.

The Lounge at the Sydney Opera House is a landmark example of how cutting-edge digital signage can enhance storytelling capabilities that ultimately foster unique and memorable experiences. By implementing first-class display technology in one of the world’s most famous buildings and busiest performing arts centers, Samsung continues to define entertainment and hospitality environments of the future.

Samsung’s first dedicated gaming monitor – the curved, Quantum dot CFG70 – reflects its proven expertise in display technologies and features standout specs. Senior Engineer Hoseong Seo and Marketing Assistant Manager Hyang Go of Samsung’s Visual Display team explain how their team achieved the ultra-fast 1ms mark in a curved monitor, and how the technology manages to deliver smoother visuals and a more immersive gaming experience.

Senior Engineer Hoseong Seo (left) and Marketing Assistant Manager Hyang Go

Q. The type of LCD panel used in a gaming monitor is key in determining how it displays. How did you select the right one for the CFG70?

Hoseong Seo: Gaming monitors feature different types of LCD panels, namely Twisted Nematic (TN), Vertical Alignment (VA), and In-Plane Switching (IPS) or Plane to Line Switching (PLS). But to meet our requirements for image quality and response time, there was really only one answer.

The CFG70 features a VA panel, which provides a high contrast range, rich color and a wide viewing angle. We chose a VA not only because they’re the optimal panels for curved monitors, which are scientifically proven to be more visually comfortable, but also because it integrated perfectly with our Quantum dot technology, allowing us to deliver supreme image quality.

Most VA panels feature an MPRT (Moving Picture Response Time – the standard for measuring the “motion blur” of rapidly moving objects in a sequence of images) of between 4 and 6 milliseconds. The CFG70’s, however, is just 1ms.

Q. What steps did you take to achieve that 1-millisecond mark?

Hoseong Seo: The difference is in the CFG70’s impulsive scanning technology. With older, CRT (cathode ray tube) monitors, when a scene changes, the screen will very quickly turn off and back on. The human eye compensates for the gap, and the user sees seamless visuals without motion blur. LCD monitors, on the other hand, do not turn off when a scene changes, which makes them susceptible to motion-blur issues.

Impulsive scanning technology reduces motion blur by regulating a monitor’s backlight between each scene. The conventional method to address this issue is to control the backlight from the center of the screen, but this may allow motion blur to remain in the upper and lower areas.

The CFG70’s backlights are divided into four sections that synchronize with image frames to eliminate motion blur across its screen.

The CFG70 features advanced “four-channel” impulsive scanning technology, which is more precise. It creates a cleaner visual experience by dividing the screen into four sections to remove motion blur more efficiently, and Samsung was the first to apply it to create a 1ms monitor.

Q. How did you anticipate gamers would respond to the CFG70’s advanced technology?

Hyang Go: Well, while it’s true that gamers greatly value innovation in their visual displays, not all will ultimately choose to buy the products with the most advanced technologies. One reason for this is simply because not everyone sees the difference.

We believe that the CFG70 curved gaming monitor’s strengths are very clear, however, and we wanted to give gamers an opportunity to see for themselves. So we invited some gamers to participate in a blind test comparing the visuals produced by its 1ms response time and impulsive scanning technology with those of competing gaming monitors.

Ten out of the 11 participants deemed the CFG70 superior, which is a testament to our development team’s hard work. One particularly perceptive participant even pointed out motion blur at the top and bottom of one of the other monitors’ screens, which proves the impulsive scanning technology’s effectiveness.

Q. How do you believe the CFG70 will ultimately enrich the gaming experience?

Hoseong Seo: Most gamers will carefully examine a number of different specs when choosing a monitor. Though other monitors may match the CFG70’s specs, we believe users of the CFG70 will see a real difference in visual performance.

In the end, the CFG70’s response time, along with its Quantum dot color and four-channel impulsive scanning technology, will allow users to enjoy a much more realistic and visually immersive gaming experience than they’d get with other gaming monitors on the market today.

<img loading="lazy" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-79773" class="size-full wp-image-79773" src="https://img.global.news.samsung.com/global/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Gaming-Monitor-CFG70-Interview_Main_3.jpg" alt="The display of a competing monitor with a 4ms response time is compared alongside Samsung’s 1ms CFG70.

In famous locales such as Madrid’s Plaza Callao, corporate logos and towering displays illuminate the streets and captivate the passers-by that wander past them. They are a shining example of how much signage has become ingrained in our daily lives.

Out-of-home outdoor digital displays, often referred to as DOOH (Digital Out-of-Home) signage, like the interactive billboards and street guides that have transformed the world’s cities, are perhaps the most obvious example of the evolution of modern communications. In fact, signage is completely changing the way we interact with the world around us.

Signage is Everywhere

For example, with the incorporation of the Internet of Things and big data, signage allows for a more personalized shopping experience. This is exemplified in new displays that utilize consumers’ shopping histories to recommend specific products, or allow customers to see virtual models that share their height, weight and even hair color posing in a selected outfit.

Restaurants, too, are leveraging digital signage to enhance the dining experience through interactive digital menus that let diners easily customize their orders.

At concerts and sporting events, digital signage provides a full view for all so that not a minute of the action is missed. With the addition of AR technology, the audience can learn about the performers or players in a way like never before, taking entertainment to an entirely new level.

In the workplace, teams can now connect their own devices to LED signage to more conveniently collaborate on projects. In this way, signage drives a more open idea exchange, and helps participants overcome the limitations of one-way communication. It also significantly improves professional and educational presentations by allowing for enhanced engagement through captivating visual media.

Transportation is yet another sector that stands to greatly benefit from digital signage. Displays that provide up-to-the-minute information refine the customer experience at train stations, bus terminals and airports. Once en route, passengers are kept informed and entertained by on-board displays.

While these are just a few examples of how digital signage has infiltrated—and improved—everyday life, modern technologies have the potential to drive even bigger changes in the tourism, recreation, healthcare and security arenas, among countless others.

And, considering the rate at which the market is expanding, as well as the consistent efforts of companies entering the space, these changes will no doubt take place sooner than later.

Samsung, A Leader in Digital Signage for Seven Years

According to Mordor Intelligence estimates, the global digital signage market was valued at $14.9 billion in 2015, with a projected annual growth rate of eight percent. At this rate, digital signage will continue to escalate to $21.9 billion in value by 2020.

Ranking number one in annual global digital signage unit sales since 2009, and having recently extended its global market share to 28.1 percent in 2015*, Samsung has established itself as a leader in this ever-growing market.

Samsung continues to maintain its position through its state-of-the-art technologies that suit a wide range of business needs, including LCD-based transparent displays, the world’s largest e-LED signage, ultra-narrow, slim-bezel video walls (including the UH55F-E model), UHD signage and DOOH-equipped trucks.

The company’s achievements have garnered industry-wide attention at global events, such as the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2016 tradeshow, the largest annual exhibition for commercial display technologies. It was here that Samsung received an “AV Display Innovation of the Year” award from AV News.

Later on at InfoComm 2016, Samsung Electronics’ OHD Series outdoor signage was named the “Best Outdoor Display” by Commercial Integrator. Additionally, Digital Signage Magazine and Rental & Staging Systems both selected Samsung’s UH55F-E model as the top video wall, while rAVe Publications named Samsung Electronics as the industry’s most favored display manufacturer for the second consecutive year.

Following their previous successes, Samsung made an impression at IFA 2016, when the company unveiled its first Motion Sensor Touch Solution, a new display that combines 3D sensors with digital signage to provide content based on users’ physical actions.

Evolving Digital Signage for Next-Generation Communications

As our world becomes more sophisticated with each passing day, so too does digital signage.

Once-complex communications can now be relayed through simple images, making retail signage, outdoor displays and road signs that allow for unlimited possibilities. Additionally, digital signage has evolved to accommodate a wide variety of content, providing new avenues to deliver engaging and aesthetically-appealing messages while replacing analog signage all together.

As the race to create the “next big thing” in signage continues to accelerate, Samsung Electronics remains a leader by offering innovative solutions that have the power to transform the future of global communications.

As the gaming market continues to enjoy rapid growth worldwide, gamers expect advanced display technologies that can bring out the latest video game features, which is exactly what Samsung’s new CFG70 curved gaming monitor aims to do.

With embedded Quantum dot technology and an ultra-fast responsetime, the company’s first dedicated hardcore gaming monitor allows for a truly optimized gaming experience. Other best-in-class features include interactive LED lighting, an intuitive user dashboard and AMD FreeSync technology.

Fast and Smooth Game Play

The CFG70 is the first curved monitor on the market that provides a 1ms Moving Picture Response Time (MPRT)—the response time that can be recognized by the naked eye—thanks to Samsung’s advanced impulsive scanning technology. This technology synchronizes the LED backlight with the actual image frame, which nearly eliminates motion blur across the entire screen.

This is especially beneficial for gamers who enjoy playing action-packed first person shooter (FPS) and racing games, where superfast scene transitions are especially essential for efficient gameplay.

The CFG70 also provides an industry-leading 144Hz refresh rate (the number of times that a monitor refreshes its displayed image per second) to ensure a seamless and uninterrupted presentation.

Furthermore, the CFG70 lets users take full advantage of AMD’s FreeSync feature, which dynamically synchronizes the monitor’s refresh rate to match the output of the graphic card. As a result, users can enjoy playing games with a smoother, more uniform frame display without tearing or stuttering for a far more fluid gaming experience.

Vivid, Crisp Colors

As one of the first curved Quantum dot monitors (along with Samsung’s CF791), the CFG70 expresses brilliant colors across a 125-percent sRGB spectrum while employing an environmentally-safe, cadmium-free design. This luminance emphasizes a range of otherwise-hidden game details in both light and dark settings, bringing unprecedented visual realism to captivate even the most hardcore gamers.

Thanks to the CFG70’s VA panel, the monitor also boasts a 3000:1 contrast ratio, which means that users can enjoy deeper blacks, more pristine whites and sharper detail. The VA panel also has minimized light leakage, so that darker scenes appear more uniform in low-light environments.

Comfortable and Immersive Viewing

The CFG70 (available in 24- and 27-inch models) provides a distinguished curvature of 1800R, which envelopes users to create the feeling that they’re a part of the game.

Not only does the monitor’s curve allow for a more immersive experience, but it also optimizes viewing comfort. In fact, according to clinical studies, a curved monitor is more effective at reducing eye strain than conventional, flat monitors.

Likewise, Eye Saver Mode improves viewing comfort by reducing harmful blue light emissions, and the CFG70’s Flicker Free function protects users’ eyes from the strain associated with flickering screens.

Optimized Gaming Experience

To further amplify the details of today’s hottest games, each CFG70 monitor undergoes meticulous pre-shipment factory calibration to optimize contrast and color presentation for even the most complex game designs, including compatibility with FPS, RTS, RPG and AOS genres.

This calibration fine-tunes a variety of display settings, including black gamma levels for enhanced brightness and white balance levels for temperature management, while ensuring a sharp, brilliant picture regardless of the game in play.

For added game management convenience, the CFG70 includes Samsung’s sophisticated yet user-friendly Gaming UX on-screen display (OSD) interface. Gamers can access the interface’s intuitive dashboard to view all essential settings, from response time to refresh rate, at a glance. Users in turn can adjust gameplay settings easily through shortcut hot keys located on the front and back of the monitor.

The CFG70 also incorporates Arena Lighting which aligns the monitor’s 1800R curvature with sound interactive LED lighting, located at the bottom of the display. These lights become more vivid as the game’s sound increases, keeping users focused during the most paramount moments, all the while enhancing the thrill of victory.

Additionally, the CFG70 comes with a dual-hinge stand that enables players to adjust the height of the monitor freely. Its innovative ball-and-joint mechanism allows the neck to seamlessly tilt, rotate and pivot—all without the base having to be moved. It is VESA supported, and boasts a DP and two HDMI ports.

Meet the League of Legends players of the Galaxy team as they talk about their experiences with the Samsung Curved Gaming Monitor!

When Samsung introduced the world’s first curved monitor in 2014, the company set a new standard, delivering a more immersive viewing experience and more natural viewing comfort.

Now, Samsung broadens its innovation in displays with the launch of its most powerful and visually compelling curved gaming monitor yet—the CF791 premium curved monitor. Bolstered color accuracy with Quantum dot technology and a refined display curvature are only just a few of the ways the CF791 is changing the game in the ever-evolving display industry.

Ultimate Viewing Comfort

With a curvature of 1,500R, the 34-inch CF791 is the most curved gaming monitor yet. Closely following the contours of the human eye, this exceptional curvature allows users to experience a more natural field of vision and a more immersive entertainment experience.

Eye-to-object distance uniformity from all angles also provides enhanced viewing comfort, while Eye Saver Mode and Flicker Free functionality work to reduce eye strain and empower comfortable long-term gameplay.

Rich and Vibrant Picture Quality

The CF791, along with the CFG70, are the first environmentally-safe, cadmium-free Quantum dot monitors on the market. By incorporating the same Quantum dot technology found in Samsung’s TV lineup, the CF791 monitor is poised to deliver a true-to-life experience for gamers and non-gamers alike.

By utilizing Quantum dot technology, the monitor displays a wide range of faithfully vibrant colors, while requiring less energy to do so. It expresses brilliant color across a 125 percent sRGB spectrum, giving greater depth to blacks and sharpening color intricacies. These color distinctions bring even the smallest details of today’s video games to life, far surpassing display offers available in conventional monitors.

Furthermore, thanks to the 3000:1 contrast ratio of the monitor’s VA panel, blacks are blacker, whites are whiter and details are sharper. And, with minimized light leakage, darker scenes are more uniform in low-light settings, increasing the nuances of gameplay.

But the CF791 is good for the home office, too, as it provides enhanced readability, even in the corners where small text or images are often cut off on other monitors. This, combined with a resolution of 3440×1440, a wider screen and a 178 degree-wide viewing angle that provides an optimal viewing experience from any direction, makes the CF791 ideal for both work and play.

Powerful Multitasking

The Ultra-Wide 21:9 aspect ratio of the CF791 makes watching movies and playing games more immersive than ever, and better preserves content quality during multi-screen competition. It also provides additional real estate for users to multitask or watch multiple contents simultaneously, eliminating the need to flip back and forth between them.

These multitasking features are enabled by the monitor’s Picture By Picture (PBP) and Picture In Picture (PIP) functionality. PBP allows two different devices, such as a laptop and computer system unit, to be connected to the monitor with original resolution. PIP, on the other hand, supports a secondary display with native resolution, which can be resized up to 25 percent of the screen, and moved into any position on the display.

Optimized Gaming Experience

Combined with a 100Hz refresh rate, as well as embedded AMD FreeSync functionality that synchronizes screen refresh rates with gamers’ AMD graphics cards, the CF791 allows users to enjoy smoother gameplay without stuttering or tearing on the monitor.

When activated, Game Mode enhances the gaming experience by adjusting the monitor to improve the darkness of the picture so players can vividly see all of the on-screen action.

Sophisticated Design, Enhanced Entertainment

Beyond its on-screen visual enhancements, the CF791 features a sleek composition that imbues just about any environment with sophistication and style.

The display’s three-sided, bound-less design allows for a seamless connection of multiple monitors, as well as the harmony between the device’s silver front and glossy white back. Furthermore, the interface has been covered and the cables hidden within the stand to form a clean rear design, so users can place it anywhere they please.

Players can also customize the monitor’s alignment to match their specific ergonomic needs through both a tilt- and height-adjustable stand.

To take its entertainment capabilities to the next level, the CF791 boasts built-in dual stereo speakers, and multiple connections—two HDMIs, a DP and two USBs.

In a recent report, DisplayMate Technologies, the leading evaluator of video screens, announced the results of a new series of comprehensive lab tests on the Galaxy Note7’s display. DisplayMate President Dr. Raymond M. Soneira noted, “The Galaxy Note7 provides many major and important state-of-the-art display enhancements. It is the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that we have ever tested.”

Which factors earned the Galaxy Note7’s display its top marks? Find out below.

As the first smartphone to incorporate High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology for mobile video streaming, the Galaxy Note7 provides a cinema-like viewing experience. HDR, the newest performance enhancement feature developed for the latest 4K Ultra HDTVs, expands the color, contrast and brightness of video content through special image processing.

To display the latest high-end video content, the Galaxy Note7 was equipped with the newest standard Wide Color Gamut called DCI-P3 for Digital Cinema Initiative. The measured color gamut of the AMOLED Cinema screen mode is a very accurate 97 percent of the standard DCI-P3 color gamut. It also received a very accurate Absolute Color Accuracy measurement of 2.8 JNCD.

The Galaxy Note7 boasts a record high peak brightness (automatic brightness) of 1,048 nits in high ambient light conditions and a screen reflectance level of 4.6 percent. This means that the screen of the Galaxy Note7 can easily be viewed or read, even under relatively high ambient lighting, such as bright sunlight, which washes out the image color saturation and contrast, decreasing picture quality.

In line with its automatic brightness improvements, the Galaxy Note7 received praise from DisplayMate for being the first of its kind to incorporate a second, rear ambient light sensor. This sensor measures surrounding ambient light and then uses the measured value, along with that of the front ambient light sensor, to alter the display brightness accordingly. The additional sensor helps the device to obtain an accurate reading of the true ambient light level, even when the phone is held in the user’s shadow.

DisplayMate also made note of the Galaxy Note7’s new Blue Light Filter that allows the user to adjust and reduce the amount of blue light from the display for better night viewing, “which some recent research indicates can affect how well users sleep afterwards.”

Featuring curved screen OLED display, the Galaxy Note7 will be available for purchase starting August 19.

Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TV lineup features Quantum Dot technology, which enables the set to present even better picture quality while improving overall energy efficiency. What, then, is a quantum dot; and why is it so good for display?

What Is ‘Quantum Dot?’

Quantum dots are nano-sized crystals made of semiconductor materials. A nanometer (nm) is one billionth of a meter, which means these extra-small particles are smaller than 1/10,000 of a single strand of human hair.*

Quantum dots can be made of different kinds of elements, but when regulated down to a size small enough, the quantum dot possesses physical properties that make it suitable for many different applications. For example, quantum dots are very efficient in absorbing and then emitting light. Based on this quality, quantum dot technology is being researched in areas such as solar panels, bioimaging, and, of course, display.

Why Is Quantum Dot Technology Good For TVs?

<Quantum Dot Demonstration>

Quantum dots are photo-active; they absorb, and then emit light. And when they do, even if the dots are made of the same material, the light each quantum dot emits is a specific color (or wavelength) depending on the size of its core. For example, a quantum dot with a core of 2nm will emit a blue light while one with a 6~7nm core will emit red.

The color of light each quantum dot gives off is also very stable and pure. Quantum dots can show precise colors while the light from conventional materials ends up getting mixed with adjacent colors. This is because the spectral line width (width of each peak in the graph below) of the light from quantum dots is much narrower than that from conventional materials.

As a result, the 3 primary colors can be more clearly distinguished in comparison to conventional TVs, which helps the quantum dot display show a wide range of colors more accurately.

Another advantage of these light-emitting quantum dots is that they’re very efficient. Compared to phosphors in conventional TVs, not only are they able to produce more colors, but the photo-active property allows for better light efficiency.

By leveraging this advantage, Samsung was able to jack up the peak brightness of its new SUHD TVs to 1,000 nits and higher, opposed to the previous 400 nits for conventional TVs– all the while further improving overall energy efficiency. Colors are perceived by light, and by offering more light along with more colors, Samsung SUHD TVs are great for HDR content.

What’s So Great About Samsung’s Quantum Dots?

Many previously developed quantum dot solutions were based on materials that involve cadmium, such as cadmium sulfide (CdS) or selenide (CdSe). Although these quantum dots share the same advantages as written above, they hold a deadly threat against the environment as toxic Cd2+ ions may be released through nanoparticle degradation.

Samsung’s quantum dots, however, are cadmium-free. They’re based on indium (In) instead. After much research and development, Samsung is currently the only company that produces cadmium-free quantum dot displays. Samsung started focusing on quantum dot technology in 2001, and has since registered over 150 patents on the subject.

Samsung’s quantum dots are also durable. Being an inorganic compound, quantum dots are more resistant to oxidation than organic substances. Samsung also applies a quad-layer coat to its quantum dots to ensure the quantum dot display is durable and kept stable over years of time. The result: a fantastic display that keeps its picture quality year after year.

Super-skyscrapers which will dwarf the Shard, under water bubble cities and origami furniture are all likely to be reality in 100 years’ time. That’s the verdict of a new study which paints a vivid picture of our future lives; suggesting the way we live, work and play will change beyond all recognition over the course of the next century.

The SmartThings Future Living Report was authored by a team of leading academics including TV presenter and one of the UK’s leading space scientists, Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock, award-winning futurist architects and lecturers at the University of Westminster Arthur Mamou-Mani and Toby Burgess, as well as pioneering urbanists Linda Aitken and Els Leclerq.

The report was commissioned on behalf of SmartThings, a system which easily allows people to make their home smarter, meaning that at any time and from anywhere it is possible to switch on lights, turn up the thermostat or unlock the back door, all via a simple app or automatically through our daily routines – something that might have seemed like science fiction as little as 10 years ago, but today is a reality.

The predictions for how we will live in the future have been brought to life via detailed animated architectural renders which show a futuristic London skyline where high rise apartments dwarf Europe’s highest building, The Shard, and show drone transportation and bubble-like underwater cities.

SmartThings Future Living Report highlights:

Many of the predictions were influenced by environmental conditions, with growing populations leading to the development of structures that are better able to cope with space constraints and diminishing resources.

As city space becomes more squeezed, we will burrow deeper and build higher with the creation of:

Super skyscrapers: carbon nanotubes and diamond Nano threads will help us create towering megastructures that will dwarf today’s skyscrapers

Earth-scrapers: just as we build up we will also dig down – huge structures will tunnel 25 storeys deep, or more

Underwater cities: are likely to become a reality – using the water itself to create breathable atmospheres and generating hydrogen fuel through the process

Personal flying drones replacing cars: some of us will be travelling skyways with our own personal flying drones, some strong enough to carry entire homes around the world for holidays

As technology develops, we’ll see:

3D printing of houses and furniture: we will be able to print exact replicas of large scale structures like houses out of local, recyclable materials so that we really can have all the comforts of home while we are away

Flexible, smart walls and 3D printed Michelin starred meals: smart walls will mean you won’t need to decorate your home – LED room surfaces will adapt to suit your mood. When it comes to entertaining, there will be no more botched recipes or pizza deliveries – instead we will be downloading dishes from famous chefs that we will tailor to our personal needs. We will be able to 3D-print a banquet or a favourite cake in minutes

Virtual meetings: our working lives will be transformed with the use of holograms which will allow us to attend meetings virtually, without leaving the comfort our homes

Stepping into home medi-pods will confirm if you really are ill, providing a digital diagnosis and supplying medicine or a remote surgeon if needed

And finally, we will:

Colonise space: first the Moon, then Mars and then far beyond into the galaxy

On top of looking at how we will live in 100 years’ time, SmartThings surveyed 2,000 British adults to pinpoint the predictions the nation thought were most likely to become a reality in the future. The survey shines a spotlight on the public perception of the future and suggests that building further into the sky, and colonising oceans are believed to be the biggest future trends as space and resources become scarce.

Space Scientist Maggie Aderin-Pocock, who co-authored the report, commented: “Our lives today are almost unrecognisable from those a century ago. The internet has revolutionised the way we communicate, learn and control our lives. Just 25 years ago, technology like SmartThings would have been inconceivable, yet today, developments like this let us monitor, control and secure our living spaces with the touch of a smartphone. Over the next century we will witness further seismic shifts in the way we live and interact with our surroundings – working on The SmartThings Future Living Report with a panel of industry experts, has allowed me to explore what these could be.

“We are likely to see the emergence of towering megastructures as well as sub-aquatic cities and transportation via advanced flying drones – some of which could be strong enough to transport entire houses on holiday.”

James Monighan, UK MD of Samsung SmartThings, which commissioned the report, says: “The smart home revolution will have massively positive implications on how we live. Our homes are becoming smarter and can now detect the presence of things like people, pets, smoke, humidity, lighting, and moisture. And this is just the beginning.

Just as the technology driving the Internet has spread to smartphones and smart homes, the smart home revolution is destined to spread to larger communities and countries. By simply turning lights and heating off when we don’t use them, we can reduce emissions. By being able to better monitor and secure our homes, we can reduce crime. By better monitoring the habits of aging relatives, we help them to achieve greater independence and a higher quality of life.”

The report has been published to coincide with the announcement that from the start of 2016, SmartThings will work with hundreds of products from a wide range of brands, as well as working with all of Samsung’s TVs as well as refrigerators, washer machines, ovens, and robot vacuum cleaners.

Having recently won major contracts, Samsung Electronics’ B2B display business is emerging as a new growth engine in its Visual Display Business.

This growth may be attributed to Samsung’s recent moves: adding LED signage to its B2B display lineup, commercializing next-generation smart, transparent and mirror display solutions, and further strengthening its open platform. Continuing to attract the attention of businesses that need cutting-edge displays will help Samsung become No. 1 in the global commercial display market for nine consecutive years in 2016.

Winning Contracts Around the World

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) moved its head office into a new, landmark building in Bangkok on January 4. For the new building, Samsung supplied 230 Smart Signage displays to help SET provide comprehensive information related to stock exchanges. In addition, SET installed a video wall made of 36 55-inch Smart Signage displays to offer visitors a clear view of the status of exchanges and stock news. Based on its ten years of experience in the B2B display business in this region, Samsung plans to further expand its presence in neighboring countries, including Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

In mid-January, Samsung also signed a major contract with MSC Cruises, a Swiss shipbuilding giant, to create seven “smart” cruise ships over the next five years, supplying them with state-of-the-art B2B solutions. Initially Samsung will supply more than 6,600 devices to two cruise ships, including 95-inch Smart Signage displays, augmented reality (AR) mirrors, tablets and medical equipment. Construction on those first two ships will begin in early 2016.

The commercialization of futuristic products like transparent displays and mirror displays, which until recently looked like devices from sci-fi movies, has also become a reality. Last month, the BMW Driving Center in Korea installed a video wall made of six 55-inch transparent OLED displays from Samsung. Displaying a wide variety of information and videos, the wall invites visitors to enjoy the special features of the cars in a unique manner.

Furthermore, at an apparel shop operated by Samsung C&T Corporation, Samsung Mirror Display intelligently helps customers with their shopping. When customers try on a piece of clothing, this technology can show them photos of how they look from the sides and behind. It also can recommend the clothing options for customers by analyzing their gender, patterns and the colors of the clothes they are wearing.

In addition, Samsung is gaining attention from its plans to supply its Signage products to super-large landmarks in North America, Europe and Asia.

Three Advantages That Give Samsung a Major Competitive Edge

Three advantages are leading Samsung’s growth in its B2B display business in 2016. First of all, it added the LED Signage business to its portfolio to attract large outdoor facilities. Since last March when it acquired YESCO Electronics—a U.S.-based LED display manufacturer—Samsung has prepared new offerings that link those products with its own signage solutions. With significant advantages over existing models in terms of picture quality, reliability, and lifespan, Samsung’s LED Signage has proven to be a good fit for outdoor settings and large venues that specialize in sports and entertainment events. Combining the competitiveness of YESCO in LED Signage with Samsung’s capacity as the No.1 B2B display business in the world, the company expects its performance in the market will show significant progress starting this year.

Secondly, Samsung has been at the forefront of introducing futuristic display solutions. It recently commercialized new displays such as transparent OLED displays and mirror displays that provide consumers with a new shopping experience by displaying products and enriching their look in a unique way. To increase these advantages, Samsung plans to make retail environments even smarter by combining Smart Signage, Samsung Pay and its Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, allowing retailers to better predict the flow and demand of consumers and provide individualized information for them.

Finally, the rapid spread of its open-source B2B platform represents the third Samsung advantage. Since there are different kinds of systems, solutions and devices used by the typical business, an open display platform with reliable compatibility is a must. Samsung has long recognized the importance of software in the world of B2B displays in the development of its Samsung Smart Signage Platform (SSSP). Businesses can apply SSSP in the way that best suits various situations, fully optimizing their signage for the best operation of their products. 25 Samsung partners will be using SSSP in their exhibits at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2016 in Amsterdam from February 9 to 12, showing how the open display platform is spreading quickly.

Since 2008, Samsung has been the top company in the world in the commercial display market. According to IHS, a market researcher, Samsung’s global market share in the third quarter of 2015 accounted for 28.6 percent of unit sales, about three times higher than its closest competitor.

The global commercial display market has been posting an impressive annual growth rate of 19 percent on average, and is predicted to reach US$8.77 billion by 2019. By supplying its next-generation display solutions, Samsung intends to provide consumers with more information and change their way of making purchases.

Samsung Electronics announced the launch of its Samsung Team Empowered Partners (STEP) reseller programme, a co-ordinated approach to help resellers go to market quicker. AV will be a particularly big focus for the company, with the launch of STEP AV benefiting 80 accredited resellers through direct client management and access to the Samsung sales team. These re-sellers will have access to exclusive accreditation training to three Samsung products; LED screens, video walls and software platform Magic Info.

“Having that close connection between the re-seller and the vendor is extremely important in creating a successful partnership,” said Phil Gaut, Head of Display at Samsung Electronics UK and Ireland. “Through STEP we’re committed to ensuring our re-sellers have everything they need to reach their customers, quickly and easily.”

New Strategy

As part of this new push, Samsung has also unveiled a change in its business warranty strategy, aimed at providing next day repairs and replacements. Under the old strategy, faulty products would be repaired within five days. However, any issue that is reported before 4pm will now receive an on-site visit the next business day and the faulty product will be replaced with a new one, while it is being repaired.

“Being unable to operate because of a faulty product can be very disruptive for a business and even result in lost revenue. This new strategy will give companies the immediate assistance they need to get them up and running as soon as possible so any downtime is minimal,” said Gaut.

New Products

Samsung outdoor signage

This new change in strategy comes as the company prepares to launch its new products at ISE 2016 this month. Alongside showcasing its outdoor display screens, video walls, e-boards and its transparent OLED screens, Samsung will become the first major brand to unveil an LED Modular screen designed for use in a multitude of environments.

With the new strategy and launch of the new products due to hit the market, Samsung is continuing to establish itself as a major player in the AV industry. Over the last five years, it has achieved a target of doubling its smart signage business from $100m to $200m.

“The AV market is undergoing considerable change as a result of the increasing development in technology in the industry. With this change in strategy and new products sets, we’re putting our customers at the forefront of this technology and helping them to become leaders in their own sectors,” said Phil Gaut.

Samsung Electronics will showcase a complete portfolio of digital signage and visual display solutions at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2016 tradeshow, between February 9 and 12 at the RAI Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Under the theme of ‘Taking Innovation to the Next Level’, Samsung will show a range of display products optimized for retail, hospitality, meeting-room and entertainment environments, among others. In Samsung’s biggest ever ISE booth (#AM-100) at 1,415㎡, attendees be able to experience the company’s vision of the future of cutting-edge display technology.

Samsung’s 2016 ISE booth

“As Samsung manufactures the world’s most brilliant and powerful visual displays, we consistently seek new avenues to further refine our technology and enable our partners to offer new and differentiated experiences to their own customers,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We’re looking forward to bringing our vision of the future to life at ISE 2016. As well as demonstrating how our complete display portfolio and latest technology will unlock new opportunities to deliver fresh, interactive content to our partners most important audiences.”

Samsung’s diverse line-up will range from large-scale video walls and crystal-clear LED signage to retail-friendly transparent OLED and mirror displays. All of which will help show visitors the value of immersive and informative viewing environments and how influential they can be in driving improved engagement and, ultimately, sales.

Powerful, Durable Outdoor Signage

Samsung’s outdoor signage suite enables businesses to share brilliant, highly-visible content in even the most challenging conditions. As highlighted by the OH55D display, Samsung’s outdoor technologies feature internal heating and cooling systems that adjust settings for continued performance in temperatures ranging from -30 to 50o C. Furthermore, the OH55D display is IP56 certified to prevent damage from dust and water.

Easy to install in kiosks and other complex outdoor usage scenarios, the OH55D display maintains consistent 2,500 nit brightness and a 5,000:1 contrast ratio. Coupled with an embedded automatic brightness sensor that adjusts settings in real-time, users can be confident that their messages will be seen clearly with minimal impact from surrounding natural and ambient light sources.

Professional-Grade Video Walls

Samsung Video Wall at ISE 2016

Optimized for a range of indoor retail, corporate and public-viewing applications, Samsung’s professional-grade, narrow bezel (3.5mm bezel-to-bezel) UD55E-A video walls combine advanced color management capabilities with the visual enhancements of large-format signage, to deliver clear and consistent content. Each UD55E-A video wall undergoes rigorous factory calibration and tuning to prevent brightness and color accuracy irregularities, and ensures that viewers receive messages without visual distraction. As the industry’s first video walls to feature integrated DisplayPort (DP) 1.2 and HDMI ports, the UD55E-A displays accommodate UHD content across a variety of configurations.

ISE 2016 attendees can also get a first look at the industry’s slimmest video wall. Samsung’s UHF-E display features a thin bezel-to-bezel design (0.9mm on the upper and left sides, 0.5mm on the lower and right sides) that keeps viewers focused on the display’s content rather than the display itself. Equipped with the same durability and color presentation components as its predecessors, the UHF-E video wall represents a sleek, stylish alternative for delivering uninterrupted content in most indoor environments.

Fine Pixel-Pitch LED Signage

Designed for corporate, control room and customer-facing environments, Samsung’s indoor SMART LED displays deliver compelling content and inspire collaboration at a lower total cost of ownership. These displays feature top-tier diodes and customizable pixel pitch compositions ranging from 1.5 to 2.5mm, providing seamless visibility while simultaneously accommodating users’ specific operational needs. Combined with design elements that produce the same deep contrast, realistic picture quality and color consistency viewers expect from Samsung’s latest televisions, the LED signage portfolio offers users an extra edge to stand out within often-crowded indoor environments.

In addition, Samsung is spotlighting how its indoor LED signage represents a higher-performing and lower-maintenance alternative to legacy classroom and boardroom technologies. In lieu of projectors and analog boards, Samsung’s LED displays condense multiple pieces of equipment into a single signage solution that expands content sharing possibilities and enhances collaboration.

The Next-Generation Retail Store

Samsung Mirror Displays at ISE 2016

Through its “retail store of the future” exhibit, Samsung invites ISE attendees to view how interactive and sensory displays will drive new customer engagement. Samsung’s ML55E mirror displays and TO55F transparent OLED signage can be used for both promotional and welcome messaging. They can also function as a virtual catalogue of accessories and products. In fashion and cosmetics applications, shoppers also can use the mirror to digitally view how a particular product would look, to enable more informed purchasing decisions.

Samsung’s booth will showcase a wide range of future-focused technologies and applications, including:

A replica hotel guest room, containing Samsung’s LYNK REACH centralized in-room content management system

Touchscreen-enabled small signage that provides supplementary information and encourages seamless wayfinding in entertainment environments

Interactive white board (IWB) displays that enable real-time content sharing and promote simultaneous group collaboration in boardroom and classroom settings

A dedicated applications exhibit where several Samsung partners will demonstrate how the company’s display technologies enhanced their operations. This includes case studies using Samsung SMART Signage Platform (SSSP) content management and H.Browser hospitality connectivity systems.

For quite some time, Samsung has been consistently distinguished as an industry leader in device displays. Earlier this year, the company dazzled consumers with the beautiful AMOLED displays of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, and according to a review from DisplayMate Technologies, the company has done so once again with the just-launched Galaxy Note5.

“Based on our extensive lab tests and measurements… the Galaxy Note5 is the best performing smartphone display that we have ever tested,” wrote DisplayMate, which is famous for its thorough and scientific evaluations of video screens. “It takes over from the Galaxy Note4, which was the previous record holder for mobile display performance.”

The 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen of the Galaxy Note5 scored record-setting results in color accuracy, peak brightness, contrast rating, resolution, smallest brightness variation with viewing angle and many other categories. In fact, the Galaxy Note5 boasted “the best absolute color accuracy of any mobile display that we have ever tested,” and “a measured Absolute Color Accuracy of 1.4 JNCD, which is visually indistinguishable from perfect, and is very likely considerably better than your living room TV.”

Thanks to that amazing performance, an incredible 518 pixels per inch, and a “significantly” improved Adaptive Display setting, the DisplayMate review noted that the display was better than ever for readability and visibility in high ambient light, meaning people can enjoy their phones in real-world conditions, even in the bright light of day. Adaptive Display adjusts the screen’s white point, color gamut and color saturation depending on the ambient lighting around the user, creating more vibrant colors and making the screen more readable.

With a peak brightness of 861 nits, the Super AMOLED screen is stunningly bright—the best DisplayMate says it has ever tested on a mobile device—but the Galaxy Note5 also has the ability to be incredibly dark. Its “Super Dimming Mode” allows users to turn the maximum screen brightness all the way down to just 2 nits using the Brightness Slider, making it ideal for working without eye strain in very dark environments. Even when dimmed all the way down, the display still offers full 24-bit color with excellent picture quality.

And to top it all off, the Galaxy Note5 does all that while using less power than the Galaxy Note4—DisplayMate measured a 21 percent improvement in efficiency—so users can get even longer life from each charge.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ also earned high praise, for a screen that was nearly identical to the Galaxy Note5, with the addition of dual curved edges. Samsung has continued to enhance the technology behind the flexible edges, which was described as “essentially the same” quality as the main display. The review noted the usefulness and “fun” of the curved display, offering a range of applications through the new “App edge” like weather, notifications and news feeds that can be enjoyed with a simple swipe of the finger. And because the edges can be used independently of the main display, users can turn off the main display and just use the edges to save on power and “significantly extend” their battery life.

“The most important point is that curved and flexible displays are definitely the wave of the future,” raved DisplayMate.

The Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5 were both unveiled at the Unpacked event last week and will be available around the world soon.

In the fourth installment Jason Choi, Principal Engineer at Display Lab, discusses the immersive power of the state-of-the-art display.

There is no doubt that the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge first appeal to customers with their attractive exterior. But, unlike the beautiful and eye-catching appearance, Samsung’s own Adaptive Display technology has been developed for more convenient and advanced usage.

When it is sunny outside, it is hard to see the screen clearly. On the other hand, looking at a bright display in a dark place causes eye fatigue. In such cases, Adaptive Display can be a solution.

Adaptive Display allows users to see the screen at an optimal brightness and color temperature in any circumstances, and maximize the viewing experience. The brightness can increase up to 10% higher than the previous models or decrease to the lowest level to save users from eye damage and fatigue. Moreover, the Adaptive Display technology is providing the best viewing experience, depending on what type of apps are being enjoyed. It analyzes the environment and content, and then automatically provides a customized display for video, camera, web browsing or e-book applications.

The Clear Colors of the Super AMOLED Screen for Everyone

Another key feature is its enhanced accessibility for those who have difficulties in distinguishing certain colors. Statistics show that about 6% of the global population deals with this issue, so Samsung came up with a new technology that enables them to perceive color differences just as others do.

The key enabling factor of this technology was a Super AMOLED that can control each pixel separately. Unlike a TFT LCD, each RGB pixel emits light and operates by itself. Based on this feature, our team designed the new technology so that people having this type of difficulty can adjust the color to an optimal level.

Lower Battery Consumption, Yet Higher Performance

The display consumes a large part of a smartphone’s battery. So, we can use smartphones longer if we achieve higher energy efficiency in the display. The Display Lab worked closely with relevant teams in Samsung Display to promote the efficiency of organic material, and improve the circuit design so that each pixel can emit light with less energy. Ultimately, 20% better power efficiency was achieved.

Lower power consumption, however, did not compromise image quality. The Quad HD Super AMOLED of the Galaxy S6 has 577 pixels per inch (ppi) and presents very detailed and crystal clear images. Reading and watching content on this panel gives viewers an incomparable experience.

A Meaningful Challenge, Galaxy S6 edge

What is the most attractive part of the Galaxy S6 edge? Answers can be varied, however, most would pick out the dual edge display over other features. The flexible display, curved on both sides, boasts not only external beauty but also creates a unique three-dimensional effect. Without fail, users are immersed in vivid color and clear picture.

This gorgeous dual edge display would not have seen the light of day were it not for years of effort. So how did this unparalleled invention come into being?

We, in fact, already unveiled a flexible display panel mounted on Galaxy smartphones several years ago, and when we released the Galaxy Note edge, this unseen curved design generated a sensation. However, curving both sides was a challenge on a whole new level, even for Samsung. In particular, putting the curved tempered glass on the flexible display at even pressure required highly-detailed manufacturing skills. Bonding the curved glass to the display body demands highly advanced techniques, but it was even more challenging for the Galaxy S6 edge as the glass is curved on both sides.

We knew how difficult this job would be, and how many roadblocks were out there. The early scepticism concerning the feasibility, and the repeated trials and errors finally allowed us to determine the optimal bonding procedure. All the related divisions made it a priority and were fully committed to this project. The matchless Galaxy S6 edge’s appearance was created thanks to such an immense amount of effort.

We have done everything we could do to provide a display that attracts customers and makes them want to have one. So far, this has been a story of developing top-notch technologies and techniques for the display panel mounted on the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Its outstanding battery efficiency, clear and vivid display and improved accessibility for all people make it truly amazing. Despite this progress, Samsung will not stop in its relentless efforts to provide the best-in-class mobile experience. Keep an eye on us as we continue to present the perfect display panel.
