Among the Galaxy Studios’ highlights include experiences surrounding the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Many visitors have particularly enjoyed the Liquid Canvas experience, in which their selfie is recreated underwater in ink, oil or liquid dye as the Galaxy S8 is moved over a ‘Liquid Canvas.’ The activity also showcases the benefits of the phone’s IP68 water and dust resistance.

A selfie comes to life on the Liquid Canvas in Moscow, Russia.

The table connects with the Galaxy S8 via Wi-Fi and acts as a second screen, giving viewers an immersive view of the bezel-less Infinity Display and crisp, clear photos made possible by the phone’s Smart Auto Focus and multi-frame image processing.
The table also features Samsung Connect, a smart home network that connects the Galaxy S8 with appliances and other devices to simplify day-to-day tasks, and showcases content from the Gear 360 and Gear VR.

Mesmerizing 360-Degree Experiences

At select Galaxy Studios, visitors can witness firsthand the amazing capabilities of the Gear 360, Samsung’s 4K resolution-capable 360-degree camera. By stepping into a cylindrical room illuminated by captivating lights and patterns, they can capture every angle of their experience in 360 degrees with the Gear 360 and then share it with their friends.

Gear Up

Many of the Galaxy Studios allow visitors to transport themselves to virtual worlds. For example, a 4D theater powered by the Gear VR with Controller allows them to engage in a space battle or perform stunning aircraft stunts, all while sitting in a chair.

Visitors try out the Gear VR with Controller in Dallas, USA.

Fun and Fitness

But not all of the Galaxy Studios are entirely about play. In fact, at the Galaxy Fitness stations, guests might just work up a sweat. Here, they can strap on a Gear S3 and play a virtual game of tennis or go ‘swimming.’ Kinetic sensors detect the players’ movements for a fun and interactive experience, while the Gear S3 tracks their activity and heart rate.

A game of tennis unfolds at the Galaxy Fitness station in Sydney, Australia.

The Best in Design Concept

The Galaxy Studio has made a splash not only with its engaging tech experiences, but also with its sophisticated Galaxy Studio Design Toolkit, which delivers a simple but alluring invitation to potential visitors.

On July 11, the Galaxy Studio Design Toolkit was selected as a recipient of the Red Dot Award: Best of the Best in Design Concept, which recognizes groundbreaking designs for prototypes and ready-to-launch products. The Red Dot Design Award received a total of 4,724 entries this year, and 43 pieces were recognized with the Best of the Best award. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on October 18 in Singapore.

This year there’s a new player in town causing quite a stir: Samsung. The tech leader is first with a significant presence at the show. It’s a historical milestone and a sign of change that the traditional watch industry must embrace.

For the past 500 years the Swiss have been focused on honing the craft of watchmaking. They have been dominant and really focused on competing against themselves. Other than a brief interim with the Quartz watch, the industry over the last thirty years has not made any drastic changes and rather focused on small refinements. Now we are seeing a new era, that is requiring the industry to re-think the definition of “the watch”. Is the watch simply a timepiece, a masterpiece in design and a feat in craftsmanship? Or in todays connected age, should it offer its user the ability to do so much more?

Younger generations are less focused on traditional watches and are shifting the demand. They are looking to the lifestyle benefits of smartwatches. And at first these watches weren’t considered serious by the industry, but now they are taking notice – and many realizing there is a place for both tradition and innovation.

We are in very interesting times in the watch industry, where the two spheres of artistry and technology are moving closer together. Technology has shifted from being an industry associated purely for gamers and coders, to one that affects everyone – no matter profession or hobby. As the worlds of horology and technology converge, fresh ideas and prospects can be created, that both traditional watchmakers and newcomers can mutually benefit from. The link between traditional watches and smartwatches is becoming stronger as technology and lifestyle become intertwined – and the Gear S3 is a perfect example of this. The Gear S3 speaks both languages: design that can easily be mistaken for a classic Swiss timepiece and technology such as GPS and music streaming enhancing various lifestyles of all users.

That’s why I am thrilled to collaborate with Samsung and to be with them here at Baselworld. It’s been an exciting journey to collaborate with a company that is committed to delivering a product that draws on craftsmanship and blends it with innovation. To me it’s just one part of how the industry can, and really must adapt. If you stick to the same thing, the industry will be left behind.
A watch creates a sense of a tribe, a community, a badge, an identity – it’s about the emotional connection.

I think that feeling can come from a classic timepiece or smartwatch. That’s the beauty of a watch collection – there is room for both. And as tradition and digital innovation continue to marry, the watch industry has a fantastic opportunity to evolve and progress towards a smart future.

Virtual Reality (VR) is no longer some distant, experimental technology. It’s here, and it’s transforming the way the world is entertained. At CES 2017, industry leaders have come together to showcase the technology’s latest advancements. Perhaps nowhere is more abuzz with excitement, however, than Samsung’s Galaxy Studio.

The experience zone is best described as a technological playground of sorts, outfitted with four types of 4D simulators that make VR more exciting and dynamic than ever before.

A recently unveiled gyro takes participants on a 360-degree race through space, while a module sends thrill-seekers on an exhilarating ride down a skeleton track. Meanwhile, attendees experience an airshow from a pilot’s perspective via a 4D chair, and a newly introduced Sway simulator takes viewers on a scenic boat ride. The devices offer an adrenaline rush that is sure to leave just about everyone with a smile on their face.

“This is not my first time to try out virtual reality,” said a CES attendee who participated in the airshow simulation. “But this is definitely my first time to experience virtual reality like this. Too cool!”

The Samsung Galaxy Studio also gives CES attendees the opportunity to participate in a unique, 4D interactive game that puts the viewer in the middle of a giant robot war. Utilizing a variety of sensors and cameras, the game enables viewers to virtually become one of the robots and throw items at their opponent to gain points.

Visit the Samsung Galaxy Studio at the Las Vegas Convention and World Trade Center (LVCC) Main Concourse (GL10) until January 8, 2017, and stay tuned to see how Samsung is innovating to transform the way the world is connected and entertained, virtually.

Samsung Electronics, Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category, saw connectivity and digital interactions taken to the next level for athletes and fans during Rio 2016 Olympic Games. With Samsung Galaxy Studios spread throughout the Olympic Games footprint and beyond in Brazil, athletes and fans were able to demo the most advanced mobile technologies and stay connected with friends and family back home. Samsung today announced numerous metrics that proved Rio 2016 was one of the most connected Olympic Games in history.

Standing out was Samsung’s #DoWhatYouCant campaign, which achieved more than 1.6 billion social impressions and engaged almost 121 million fans. Based on the philosophy that the Olympic Games has never only been about sports, #DoWhatYouCant celebrates those who defy barriers to do the extraordinary, inside and outside of sports. Through its heralded documentary “A Fighting Chance,” along with advertisements and content like “The Chant” and “The Anthem,” the campaign tells the stories of those who push the limits to overcome obstacles, helping fans across the globe connect with what it means to “Do What You Can’t.”

Samsung reached many other milestones at Rio 2016, helping the brand achieve top marks. By the numbers, Samsung’s milestones included:

8,447 calls made from Samsung Galaxy Studio in Olympic Village via Samsung’s free call service for athletes; 42,236 minutes

6,035,434 downloads of official “Rio 2016 App”, developed by Samsung in collaboration with the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee

58,783 mentions of Samsung’s Rio 2016 #DoWhatYouCant

125,359,837 total campaign engagements

1,647,594,349 impressions via #DoWhatYouCant

330,350 fans who enjoyed VR experience through Samsung Galaxy smartphones at the Galaxy Studios throughout Brazil

1,040,860 visitors to 13 Olympic Games-themed Samsung Galaxy Studios throughout Brazil

Samsung’s free call service at its Galaxy Studio in the Olympic Village proved to be a hit for athletes, helping them connect with their families back home as they prepared for competition. VR experiences were also immensely popular for both athletes and fans – with many of Samsung’s 13 Olympic Games-themed Galaxy Studios throughout Brazil offering SporTV’s VR livestream of events for thousands of fans.

To help make this Olympic Games more connected than ever, Samsung – in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – presented 12,500 Galaxy S7 edge Olympic Games Limited Edition mobile phones to athletes competing in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The commemorative smartphones were meant to help Olympians enhance their experiences in Rio and communicate with friends and family around the world more conveniently.

And with the help of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Samsung also developed the official application of Rio 2016, “The Rio 2016 App,” that provides athletes, fans and consumers 24/7 updates on all of the latest Olympic Games news. And to have a home base for all of the digital interactions at the Olympic Games, Samsung last week opened its main Samsung Galaxy Studio Olympic Park right in the heart of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where fans and consumers can demo Samsung’s latest wireless communications products and immersive technologies.

“As a continuous contribution to the Olympic Games, Samsung creates immersive programs that unite the world through our mobile technology helping fans across the globe have access and enjoy,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Rio 2016 has proven to be a digitally connected Olympic Games. We are delighted to see the great connections of the athletes and fans, which we look forward to continuing into the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.”

In addition to getting immersive views of the Olympic torch lighting and the Parade of Nations, fans can also experience the thrill of VR at three different Samsung Galaxy Studios at the event. Included are the VR Station, a theater-like venue where participants can virtually take part in winter sports in 4D, as well as the VR Bus. Here, attendees partake in an exhilarating, 360-degree ski jump simulation that takes them through the stunning scenery of Lillehammer, Norway.
