Samsung Electronics today announced a key software update for Galaxy XR, adding enterprise-ready capabilities through Android Enterprise and improving everyday user experiences with several usability upgrades. With this latest firmware release, Android XR will now receive regular software updates, including security patches, for up to five years¹ — underscoring Samsung and its partners commitment to long-term performance, security and innovation on the XR platform launched in October 2025.

Advancing XR With Android Enterprise Support

Starting from Galaxy XR, Android XR now supports Android Enterprise, extending the trusted management framework used across millions of Android devices into immersive environments. This update brings enterprise-grade control and efficiency to Galaxy XR, creating a scalable foundation for real-world deployments across industries including training, manufacturing, healthcare and retail. With Samsung Knox on Android Enterprise, it also guarantees strict device security. Features include:

• Support for fully managed and dedicated device use cases, giving organizations greater control of Galaxy XR devices in corporate owned deployments.
• Device enrollment methods including Android zero-touch, QR code setup and Device Policy Controller (DPC) identifier provisioning, simplifying large-scale rollouts from day one.
• Enterprise app management using Managed Google Play and support for direct installation, making it easy to deploy and update XR applications.
• Core device management features including setting password policies, network configurations, device restrictions and remote lock or wipe, which help devices remain protected in any environment.
• Hardware-level protections to meet relevant compliance and security standards on safeguarding sensitive enterprise data.

New Enhancements for Everyday Users

Alongside new enterprise capabilities, the latest Android XR update brings thoughtful improvements to everyday experiences — enhancing comfort, preserving workflow continuity, expanding accessibility and unlocking more immersive ways to view content. Features include:

• Enhanced virtual keyboard positioning to let users save alternate keyboard positions at their chosen vertical position and depth for a more personalized experience.
• Desktop session restore which automatically reopens up to three previously used apps in their original layout after rebooting, helping users seamlessly jump back into work or entertainment.
• Expanded accessibility features like single eye tracking² and pointer customization, making Galaxy XR more inclusive and adaptable for a wider range of users with varying sight or mobility needs.
• Wall panel alignment,³ an on-screen guide that makes it easier to accurately line up content within a user’s space, smoothly integrating the screen into physical surroundings.
• Auto Spatialization,⁴ now available in Google Chrome and YouTube, effortlessly converts 2D content into immersive 3D photos and videos.

Samsung Electronics today announced that its security solution, Samsung Knox, has achieved Common Criteria (CC) certification for monitors, expanding the verified security it has maintained on smart TVs for a decade.

CC certification is a global standard used to assess the security integrity of products that need data protection, providing an international framework that consolidates various assessment criteria from different countries and facilitates mutual recognition. Since 2015, Samsung has consistently received CC certification for its new products to verify the reliability of its security technology, and with this latest achievement, it has become the first manufacturer to receive CC certification for both monitors and smart TVs.

“Connected displays have become central to how we work and live, making verified security essential,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “With Samsung Knox now certified on both smart TVs and monitors, we’re delivering that protection consistently across our products.”

Samsung Knox protects users from cyber threats such as hacking, particularly in areas requiring robust security like AI home control, AI voice recognition and credit card transactions.

The CC certification emphasizes three key security features of Samsung Knox:

• System Integrity Monitor (SIM): Provides real-time monitoring of the kernel to ensure system integrity.
• Web Browser Security (WBS): Blocks phishing websites to safeguard users while browsing the internet.
• Unauthorized Execution Prevention (UEP): Validates digital signatures to prevent unauthorized actions.

Samsung Knox also ensures a strong security environment with its multi-layered architecture, which includes TrustZone, a hardware-based independent security layer; Knox Vault, a separate layer for sensitive data; and Knox Matrix, a security management layer for connected devices.¹

That’s why Samsung will soon unveil a new layer of privacy to shield your phone from shoulder surfing wherever you go. You’ll have the space to check your messages or enter a password on public transit without thinking twice about who might be watching.

Flexible Protection Built Over Years

Not everyone needs the same level of privacy. This new layer gives you the choice to decide what works best for you. A New Standard for Mobile Privacy

This is the latest in a series of Galaxy innovations designed to keep you safe. There is no privacy without strong security. For more than a decade, Samsung Knox has established layers of protection for Galaxy devices, from dedicated security hardware like Knox Vault to ecosystem defenses such as Knox Matrix. This latest safeguard builds on that commitment to security, introducing privacy at a pixel level.

This is privacy you can see and security you can feel — and it’s coming to Galaxy very soon.

How Samsung Products Achieve the UL Solutions Diamond-Level Ratings

To provide users with peace of mind, it is crucial to determine that the robot vacuum cleaner has strong security capabilities. Especially in case of Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra,⁴ the premium model in the series, uses a camera during the cleaning process and offers features such as home monitoring through SmartThings connectivity.⁵ Similarly, robust security measures are essential to Samsung’s screen-based appliances, which can monitor other home appliances and store user information in the web browser.

To establish this standard of protection, Samsung has applied Samsung Knox, which provides a multi-layered security system. It ensures encrypted communication and robust defense against external threats. Additionally, Samsung is strengthening security across these new products with IoT security marketing claims verified by UL Solutions this year by applying Knox Matrix Trust Chain⁶ and Knox Vault.⁷ Knox Matrix Trust Chain utilizes blockchain technology to monitor connected appliances’ security status in real time. Knox Vault, which is applied to home appliances for the first time in 2025, stores particularly sensitive user information, such as passwords and authentication information, in a separate hardware chip to ensure protection. These continued efforts will allow the company to deliver a more secure connected home experience and further extend security certifications across its product portfolio.

Beyond its high level of security, the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam Ultra offers enhanced hygiene through steam sanitization.⁸ Equipped with AI Object Recognition,⁹ it allows users to enjoy a more personalized and effortless cleaning experience that’s tailored to their home environment.¹⁰

The Bespoke AI Refrigerator and the Bespoke AI Laundry lineup, which were introduced at the global “Welcome to Bespoke AI” launch event in March, are equipped with the AI Home or AI Family Hub screen.¹¹ The screen allows for easy control of the device and displays product-related information in an intuitive way.

Availability

Samsung’s newest vacuum and mop robot cleaner, the Bespoke AI Jet Bot Steam, is scheduled to be showcased at IFA 2025, where its key features and strengths will be on full display. Bespoke AI refrigerators and the Bespoke AI Laundry lineup are already being rolled out in select markets globally.

The UL Solutions IoT Security Rating Program

UL Solutions is a global safety science leader that evaluates marketing claims for smart devices through objective, rigorous and science-based evaluation. Its IoT Security Rating Program verifies a brand’s marketing claims about its product’s IoT security capabilities and ranks those capabilities on five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

The Diamond-level rating is the highest in the program. Only products that successfully detect and block malicious software, prevent unauthorized access and anonymize user data can earn a Diamond-level rating. Products that achieve this level must also detect unknown threats and run real-time vulnerability management systems.

Secure Wi-Fi Strengthened With Quantum-Resistant Encryption

In continuation of its commitment to quantum-safe security, Samsung is bringing post-quantum cryptography to Secure Wi-Fi,⁴ extending the trusted approach first introduced on the Galaxy S25 series through Post-Quantum Enhanced Data Protection (EDP). Secure Wi-Fi is now being upgraded with a new cryptographic framework⁵ designed to strengthen network protection against emerging threats, particularly those anticipated in the era of quantum computing. This enhancement secures the key exchange process at the core of encrypted connections, helping ensure robust privacy even over public networks.

Quantum computing, once fully realized, could undermine many of today’s data protection methods. By integrating post-quantum cryptography, Secure Wi-Fi is built to withstand future attacks that capture encrypted data with the intent to break it once quantum technology matures — a tactic known as “harvest now, decrypt later.” This upgrade fortifies the secure tunnel between Galaxy devices and Samsung servers, reinforcing the integrity of data transmissions in high-risk environments like public Wi-Fi.

In addition to this future-ready foundation, Secure Wi-Fi offers a suite of advanced privacy features:

• Auto Protect: Automatically activates in public places like cafés, airports or hotels, securing Wi-Fi connections without requiring user action.
• Enhanced Privacy Protection (EPP): Encrypts internet traffic and routes it through multiple layers, combining packet encryption and relay to anonymize device information and help prevent tracking.
• Protection Activity: Provides visibility into protection history by showing which apps and networks were secured and how much data was encrypted over time.

A Trusted Platform With Built-In Safeguards

In addition to its latest innovations, Samsung continues to strengthen the core protections that underpin the Galaxy experience. These features reflect a multi-layered security approach that protects across hardware and software, while giving users greater visibility and control:

Samsung Electronics has been working on a new form of cutting-edge mobile security, starting from the Galaxy S25 series. Known as post-quantum cryptography (PQC), the technology uses advanced algorithms to future-proof against the potential risks that quantum computing poses to traditional encryption methods.

Samsung Newsroom explored the future of digital security to understand why Samsung is already taking these protective measures.

Eyes on the Horizon

Quantum computing represents one of the most transformative fields in modern technology, offering unparalleled problem-solving capabilities. By harnessing the power of quantum computers, complex challenges can be solved exponentially faster than with traditional computing — unlocking breakthroughs in numerous industries from medicine to logistics. For instance, quantum algorithms could streamline supply chains or improve punctuality in transportation systems.

However, this immense computational power comes with risks. Because quantum algorithms have the potential to break certain encryption methods used to safeguard today’s data, addressing this vulnerability is critical to ensuring data protection in the future.

While quantum computing is not expected to reach full-scale implementation immediately, early action is essential to protection against “harvest now, decrypt later” threats — where attackers collect data now to decrypt it with future quantum capabilities.

Redefining Standards of Defense

Samsung has been working on PQC to ensure encrypted data remains secure in a quantum-powered world.

The company is closely following standards recommended by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)¹ to defend against quantum computer attacks. For example, the ML-KEM (Module-Lattice-Based Key-Encapsulation Mechanism) algorithm employs lattice-based mathematics — complex multidimensional structures that make encryption keys exceptionally difficult to solve, even for quantum computers. Ideal for secure communication between connected devices, the algorithm provides robust security while optimizing performance and minimizing data exchange.

NIST’s PQC standards secure a wide range of electronic information from confidential emails to e-commerce transactions. For Samsung, they are a way to future-proof cloud data against quantum threats.

Samsung’s Strategic Approach

Committed to protecting user data as technologies such as quantum computing evolve, Samsung is introducing Post-Quantum Enhanced Data Protection (EDP) to Samsung Knox Matrix — the company’s industry-leading protection for connected device ecosystems.

Samsung’s EDP feature currently provides end-to-end encryption for user data when backing up, restoring or syncing personal information through Samsung Cloud.

With the integration of PQC technology to Knox Matrix, another layer of protection has been added — setting a new standard for cloud security on mobile devices. Knox Matrix’s cross-device compatibility will ensure seamless quantum-safe protection for Samsung Cloud backups and synced data across smartphones, TVs and digital appliances.

This feature is available on the new Galaxy S25 series as the first device operating on One UI 7, giving Galaxy users enhanced protection against quantum computing threats.

Security is at the core of Bespoke Home AI. Samsung has made protecting user data a top priority by leveraging Knox technology to ensure greater security for homes. With this safety in mind, SmartThings is rapidly expanding its integrated ecosystem — providing enhanced security in a connected environment where devices monitor each other’s security status.

Home AI: Technology That Understands Users’ Tastes and Their Living Spaces

The BESPOKE AI Lifestyle Zone demonstrated various connected experiences with Samsung home appliances including the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub, the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI and the Bespoke Slide-in Range.

▲ Bixby can recognize a user’s voice and switch to their individual Family Hub account when they ask about their daily schedule.⁴ If a user has large print mode enabled on their phone, the accessibility feature automatically syncs with the Family Hub refrigerator screen when they speak.

▲ Home AI helps reduce wasted ingredients and saves user’s time with the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub’s AI Vision Inside⁵ and Bixby. When a user asks Bixby if there are any ingredients nearing their expiration date, the voice assistant provides a list. A follow-up request for recipes prompts Bixby to suggest tailored recommendations⁶ using those ingredients. Bixby can then send the recipe instructions to the Bespoke Slide-in Range, automatically setting the temperature and cooking time.

▲ When mobile GPS and home sensors detect that users are away, appliances can autonomously operate in a Home AI environment to match users’ preferences. Noisy tasks like the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI emptying its dust bin⁷ or the WindFree Air Conditioner drying its interior can be handled while users are away.

If sensors detect suspicious activity while family members are away, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI moves to the location to assess the situation with its internal camera and sends a SmartThings notification to the user’s mobile device for real-time video monitoring. If an intrusion is identified, an alert will immediately be sent to the user’s connected security provider.⁸ Furthermore, Samsung appliances proactively prevent everyday dangers. For instance, the Bespoke AI Induction cooktop⁹ will automatically adjust its power to prevent any accidents if left on for too long.¹⁰

Video displays presented Samsung’s Multi Device Experience (MDE) features and highlighted the values of Ease of Use, Care and Saving — showcasing the WindFree Air Conditioner that customizes operation according to usage patterns, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo AI that records videos of pets¹¹ with a built-in camera and sends a notification to SmartThings and the SmartThings energy usage report¹² that makes energy use more efficient.

AI Home Touch Screens: Easy Control Anytime, Anywhere

AI Home¹³ touch screens allow users to reduce the burden of household chores and easily control their connected Samsung home appliances from the comfort of their home.¹⁴

The Screens Everywhere Zone showcased a refrigerator with a new 9-inch AI Home screen and the new Bespoke AI Washer and Dryer set with 7-inch AI Home screen, both introduced this year. Appliances equipped with AI Home can be controlled securely without the need for a separate hub.

For instance, a user can ask the robot vacuum cleaner to clean the house and set a time to start the washing machine in one sentence. Bixby will understand the commands and execute each of them accordingly. Users can even hear verbal responses when asking about their air conditioner’s air filter or maintenance status.

With Pin App and Maintenance Mode, you don’t have to worry about anyone snooping around. You get to decide what people can and can’t see, no matter who’s got their hands on your device. It’s like having a personal bouncer for your phone.

Pin App

There’s a feeling you get when you hand over your phone to show somebody some pictures. It could be your holiday snaps, or just something funny you saved. But then they accidentally open another app and now they see a photo or message, or anything else you didn’t intend to show them. It’s a horrifying moment, but Pin App can stop that from happening again.

Think of Pin App like a personal bouncer for your apps, stopping people from getting into where they’re not welcome. Instead, it keeps them exactly where they’re supposed to be — in the app you’ve pinned — and nowhere else.

Pin App also acts as a Do Not Disturb sign, preventing awkward pop-up notifications that risk showing sensitive information when all you wanted to do was to share a funny social media post.

Setting up Pin App is quick and easy. Simply go to your Settings, then into Security and privacy. Next, scroll down and find More Security Settings, and you can toggle the switch for Pin App on or tap on the text to view more settings. For extra security, you can choose ‘Ask for PIN before unpinning’, so whoever has your phone will need a password to get out of the pinned application.

Then, open the app you want to pin. Tap the Recents button (or swipe up and hold if you’re using swipe gestures) then tap the icon above the app. Select the ‘Pin this app’ option, and that’s it.

Maintenance Mode

Many of us at some point during the lifecycle of our device, will find ourselves submitting our phone to a third-party repair service for that cracked screen or that damaged charging port. More often than not, we need to send our device away for a period of time to have the repair done which brings its own risks including the ability of third parties to access private information on our devices.

Even the most careful among us can’t avoid accidents. When you send your phone away to get that cracked screen or damaged charging port fixed, you’ve got no idea who can access your data.

This is where Samsung’s Maintenance Mode can be used.¹ It is specifically designed to protect and hide your personal data from being accessed when your device leaves your hands and is sent away for any type of repair.

When you activate Maintenance Mode, you can set up a distinct user profile, ensuring your primary account and data remain private. This mode can be activated either through the device’s Settings, where you tap Device Care before navigating to and tapping Maintenance Mode; or can be activated through the Samsung Members app.

Once Maintenance Mode has been turned on, you can conceal all your personal data including photos, videos, contacts and messages and prevent any unauthorized access. It also ensures that no data is erased by accident from your device, for instance, by a repair service center.² If you do need to send your device away for those repair activities, you can also ensure that those accessing it will only have access to basic device features that enable them to perform the necessary service diagnosis.

Secure Folder

Samsung Knox provides layers of security and privacy, not only to protect users but also to give them choice in what they want to secure. For those who want to keep their most personal information separate and safe, there’s Secure Folder.

It’s a container that locks away your data so it cannot be accessed through your phone’s regular storage. It can hold your most private data such as calendar schedules and contact information, as well as notes, photos, videos, files and even apps. You can even encrypt the Secure Folder to keep your apps and data even more locked down until the next time you open the folder.

You can find Secure Folder in your apps. The first time you open it, you’ll have to set your lock type to either a PIN, pattern or password. In addition to these, you can also add fingerprint access — and then you’re good to go. Anything you create within the Secure Folder will be automatically stored here, but you can also move data here any time.

For example, if you want to keep a copy of your driver’s license, you can take a photo of it using the Camera app within Secure Folder, or you can pick a photo in your Gallery, tap the options menu (the three dots) and then select ‘Move to Secure Folder.’

There are a lot of things you can’t control, but when it comes to your privacy, Samsung wants to give you as much control as possible. With Pin App, Maintenance Mode and Secure Folder, you’ve got that extra reassurance against prying eyes.

Why Security Is the Foundation of Bespoke AI Appliances

A recent study conducted by market research firm Ipsos highlights the significance of security in the age of AI. The study surveyed 17,000 people across 17 countries, using the title of “Our Life With AI: The reality of today and the promise of tomorrow.” A key finding was that 42 percent of respondents identified “better security” as a very important application for AI, with an additional 44 percent deeming it somewhat important.

Samsung Electronics today announced that Samsung Knox, the trusted security solution integrated into its 2024 TVs, has achieved Common Criteria (CC) certification ahead of product launch.

The CC certification stands as a global benchmark, acknowledged by 31 countries¹ worldwide, for assessing the security integrity of IT products. Samsung has now achieved 10 consecutive years of CC certification for Samsung Knox, a top-tier security solution for its TVs that has continued to improve year over year. This year, Samsung Knox demonstrates its global security excellence with validation before the 2024 TVs are available to consumers on the market.

Secure Convenience in a Connected World

The release of One UI 6 on Galaxy devices and an update to Samsung Knox Matrix¹ work to further realize Samsung’s vision of a future where connected devices can protect each other within an ecosystem.

Last year, we announced that Knox Matrix would support Trust Chain, which will enable connected devices to intelligently monitor each other for security threats, and send notifications to other devices if one is ever attacked. This meant that if a hacker were to target a device, Knox Matrix could detect the threat and isolate that device from other devices to keep the rest of the system safe.

At SDC23, Samsung is announcing updates to another key element of Knox Matrix — Credential Sync, which can help protect sensitive information as it moves between multiple devices, such as Samsung Galaxy devices, TVs and Family Hub refrigerators. With the introduction of One UI 6, Credential Sync brings users an easy and secure way to sync their identities and credentials between their Samsung devices. Also now available within Credential Sync is end-to-end encryption of backed-up and restored Samsung Cloud data.² This ensures the data can only be encrypted or decrypted on a user’s devices, meaning nobody can see it but the user — even if a server is compromised or account details are stolen. Starting early 2024, Samsung Galaxy devices will also implement end-to-end encryption when users sync their data with Samsung Cloud.³

As part of Credential Sync, Samsung has also developed new ways to manage and secure identities and credentials for a future hyperconnected world in the form of passkeys: digital credentials that can be used as authentication for websites and apps. Through One UI 6, Samsung Pass has been updated with the ability to use passkeys,⁴ marking a significant step towards a passwordless future where passkeys replace traditional passwords to provide an experience that is:

• Faster: Users can save time on typing their account username into their device by instead quickly selecting the account they wish to sign into
• Easier: Once passkeys are registered, users can easily switch over to a new connected device with no requirement to sign up all over again
• More secure: Passkeys only work on users’ registered websites and applications, ensuring protection against phishing attacks from malicious sites or apps

Knox Matrix realizes this revolutionary step in the evolution of passwords by enabling a convenient way to share passkeys across multiple devices without sacrificing security. Based on FIDO’s international standards, passkeys enable users to use Samsung Pass on their smartphone to sign into apps and websites through biometric sensors, such as fingerprints. With One UI 6, passkeys are able to be held in escrow until specific conditions are met — like when a PIN, password or lock screen pattern of a user’s previous device is entered on their Samsung Galaxy smartphone. These updated escrow functions within Knox Matrix will eliminate the need for users to remember current passwords or reset forgotten ones, providing convenience and stronger security when sharing credentials between connected devices.

Powerful Security Innovations on More Samsung Devices

Besides innovating to secure the device ecosystems of the future, Samsung is also democratizing its most powerful security innovations for devices today. Samsung Knox Vault is being strengthened through the expansion beyond flagship devices to protect more customers and give them greater choice in the devices they can safely use.

Knox Vault can help protect the most critical data on a device, including lock screen information, such as PIN codes, passwords and patterns. It constructs a secure execution environment that is physically isolated from the system’s main processor and memory and is effective from the moment a user registers their lock screen — thus users can enjoy the security they need without hassle. Knox Vault can help protect users’ security keys which encrypt their private data stored in the device, ensuring total safety — even if the device is lost or stolen.

A hardware-based and tamper-resistant solution, Samsung Knox Vault was created to safeguard a user’s private data against not only software-based hacking, but also hardware attacks using high-end professional tools. Originally launched on Samsung Galaxy flagship devices including S series, Z series, S FE series smartphones and Tab S series tablets, Knox Vault is being expanded to Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs in 2023, and the wider Galaxy ecosystem including Galaxy A series smartphones with One UI 6 or later⁵ in 2024.

The wide range of powerful security measures make Samsung Galaxy devices better at ensuring user privacy, addressing the need for convenience in a hyperconnected society with the backing of a true commitment to strong user security. One UI 6 also brings updates to Galaxy’s Security and Privacy Dashboard, making it easier than ever for users to see and control what is happening to their data. During the keynote, Samsung introduced new ways to create safer, healthier and more sustainable experiences through its multi-device ecosystem, which has been particularly enhanced by new SmartThings connectivity features and an updated Samsung Knox Matrix. The event also spotlighted One UI 6, the latest version of its class-leading mobile user interface, featuring an array of personalized styles and new features for an all-around smartphone experience.

“Over 500 million Samsung products are sold every year, and the number of people using Samsung accounts exceeds 600 million. To us, this is both a huge achievement and a profound responsibility,” said Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s technologies connect countless people, products and services. CEO JH Han also emphasized that sustainability and security are the foundation to all of Samsung’s latest updates, as both values are essential for innovating responsibly in a new age of hyperconnectivity.

Smart Homes More Connected Than Ever

 Samsung’s vision of the connected home is deeply rooted in SmartThings and open innovation. Since applying the Matter standard last year, the total number of SmartThings users who have connected compatible products and services has increased to over 290 million. Now, the SmartThings Home API¹ makes it easier than ever for developers to create SmartThings-based apps, and the SmartThings Context API provides new ways to leverage AI and sensing technology for better user experiences.

Samsung is embedding SmartThings Hub functionality into existing and new products, including Samsung Sound Bars and Smart TVs, so users can quickly and easily start their smart homes from their connected devices. This Multi-Hub Network also means when it’s time to replace or add a device, there is a powerful and stable network of others ready to keep the smart home continue. These experiences are enhanced further with Samsung’s work with Aqara, who joined Samsung onstage to share how its Internet of Things (IoT) sensors work with SmartThings to create more intuitive and accessible smart homes.

Samsung also announced the second-generation SmartTag2 at SDC23. With battery life lasting up to 700 days,² an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and a streamlined and smaller design, the SmartTag2 can follow lost items through rain, snow, and even underground with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity.

Bixby is increasingly integrating with SmartThings. This year, Samsung announced more intuitive command control for multi-device environment. Now, even if multiple devices are connected in the same space, Bixby intuitively understands which device is best suited to each command, with a deeper understanding of every scenario. In the future, Bixby will evolve to provide personalized experiences with simple commands by understanding users’ languages widely and optimizing their intentions.

As a growing number of connected devices come together to build these new experiences, security and privacy is more important than ever. Last year, Samsung introduced Knox Matrix, Samsung’s blockchain-based security vision for a future wherein devices connected in an ecosystem can protect each other — as well as their users. This year, Samsung is updating Knox Matrix’s key features including Credential Sync and Trust Chain. Samsung is also bringing Knox Vault to more devices including Samsung Neo QLED 8K TVs in 2023 and select Galaxy A series smartphones that launch with One UI 6 or later in 2024. Tizen OS: Maximizing Developer Opportunities

Over the past decade, Tizen has effectively powered digital screens including TVs, home appliances, monitors and signs. This year, Samsung announced that Tizen is coming to even more devices including home appliances with a 7-inch screen while also boosting experiences with on-device AI and the Home AI Edge Hub. With Home AI Edge technology, appliances with lower computing power can request AI services to the devices in the house with strong computing resource such as CPUs and NPUs. This will ultimately make all devices in the home intelligent.

Tizen is also powering Samsung’s immersive gaming experiences, including the Samsung Gaming Hub which now supports 3,000 games on the cloud platform — a 300% increase since it was launched last year. And, with HDR10+ GAMING and Samsung’s IRIS tool for graphics developers, there’s never been a better time to explore the virtual worlds of gaming on Tizen.

Tizen is also offering increased support for the rising open-source semiconductor architecture RISC-V and the programming language RUST, alongside new features like the Remote Test Lab to test apps and experiences on Samsung TV devices in the cloud.

One UI 6: Enabling Your Galaxy, Your Way

The new One UI 6 offers more ways to make your smartphone experience easier to navigate, simpler to manage and a little more you. It includes a revamped Quick panel with a refreshed, intuitive look and feel with settings grouped together for easier use. With One UI 6 a new exclusive typeface has also been introduced: One UI Sans, to improve readability on digital screens. For photos, One UI 6 analyzes the photo you are viewing and suggests the most relevant AI editing tools all within one easy to access tool. And with Samsung Studio, you can make multi-layered edits to your video like adding text, stickers, and music exactly where and when you want within the video.

Taking Health Care to the Next Level

Samsung Electronics further used SDC23 to share its enhanced health solutions based on the power of connectivity. New digital health experiences provided by SmartThings and Samsung Food, and a personalized sleep environment are enabled through the better connection of users, devices and services. To build on these experiences, Samsung announced its continued commitment of the Samsung Privileged Health SDK, which enables developers and partners to create digital health solutions using the Samsung BioActive Sensor.

Additionally, Samsung highlighted its latest clinical research collaborations with Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the MIT Media Lab, Tulane University and Samsung Medical Center with MIT Media Lab’s Dr. Pattie Maes joined Samsung onstage.

Samsung also shared more details of its new Samsung Food service, including the Food AI and Vision AI technologies, which offer a comprehensive food experience across all connected devices. This includes a creator program for recipe-sharing and services for grocery purchases, personalized recommendations, and more. Device attestation can help ensure a device’s identity and health, verifying that it has not been compromised. On-device, mobile hardware-backed device attestation — available on Samsung Galaxy¹ devices and combined with protection from Microsoft Intune — now adds enhanced security and flexibility. There are currently three critical features of Knox Matrix that ensure its success. Trust Chain has devices monitoring each other for threats. Credential Sync secures user information as data is moved between devices; and Cross Platform SDK will enable devices on various operating systems and platforms (including but not limited to Android, Tizen and Windows) to join Knox Matrix with consistent security standards. This way, we can keep devices safe even in a hyper-connected world.

Knox Matrix manages all this within a private blockchain, allowing compatible devices to check each other for breaches and ensure safety with intelligent threat monitoring. With these steps in place and more features to be introduced, users will be able to enjoy multiple connected devices safely and conveniently.

The Path to the Next Frontier: Stronger Together

Creating the foundations for the next era of device security requires careful consideration. Knox Matrix’s development is going strong, but there are challenges on the way to the next frontier. These include reconciling the many different types of products, with varying operating systems and security standards, into a frictionless system able to work as one.

In a flight attendant-like announcement, Galaxy’s new video spotlighting the ease of switching over to a new Galaxy smartphone from another operating system announces that apps and data from your former smartphone have moved fast and comfortably made it to their new device. The icons are impressed with their new home, taking a leisurely look around while checking out their new appearance.

Shot from the perspective of smartphone icons, this amusing video was released on Samsung Electronics’ YouTube channel in April as part of the “Samsung Galaxy: All About Switching” campaign. It shows off leading Galaxy features for consumers who may be hesitant to make the switch. In more than two weeks since its release, the clip went viral — reaching 21.2 million views and receiving more than 72,000 likes and 5,400 comments.

Can I Safely Switch to Galaxy? Answering the Real Concerns of Consumers

Research shows that concerns about the device switching process are a phenomenon shared by many. From questions about the complexity of the switching process to platform compatibility with existing peripherals, to worries over whether photos and other data can be safely transferred without loss, switching fears are common.

In “All About Switching,” the icons mirror consumers’ initial concerns, becoming lost in confusion upon hearing that they’ll be moving to a new home. Comical conversations ensue between the personified icons to help ease consumers’ potential worries.

Here to reassure both concerned icons and consumers alike is the Galaxy Smart Switch app. The switch to Galaxy is over in a flash, complemented by the lively and dynamic icons. Even without facial features, their expressions and detailed animation effects help bring each icon to life. In fact, 3D animation was used to enhance the subtle expressions of the Samsung Knox icon to mimic the subtle movements of a mouth and eyebrows.

To help create this entertaining video, Samsung enlisted the help of some notable voice actors who have appeared in Hollywood blockbusters such as Star Wars and Jurassic Park and an animation voice acting specialist whose credits include the U.S. versions of Naruto and Bleach. In addition, detailed animation effects help bring each icon to life. Towards the end of the video, viewers see behind-the-scenes clips of the voice actors in action.

From Smart Switch to One UI: Spotlighting the Unique Galaxy Experience

Through the “All About Switching” video, Samsung is not only showing how easy it is to make the switch to Galaxy but also introducing the unique features and benefits of Galaxy. The video is divided into several chapters including Smart Switch, SmartThings service, Samsung Knox security, Quick Share and One UI. The icon of each feature pops up during the corresponding chapter to introduce what it does while addressing any situations consumers may encounter.

Galaxy fans worldwide have reacted to “All About Switching,” posting comments on the Samsung Electronics’ YouTube video that are just as funny as the video itself. As some viewers said: “I will never look at my icons the same after seeing this,” “We need season 2,” and more. A viewer who identified themselves as a different smartphone user left a long comment that echoed the reactions of many others: “This was so tasteful and informative and can def [sic] help others see how easy it can be to switch over [to Galaxy].”

This milestone demonstrates a swift and steady expansion for SmartThings Find, which has registered 100 million more nodes since July 2022, achieving 1.5 times growth in just 10 months. It also means a boost in the efficacy of the device location service, as each opted-in device has the ability to help locate another. The higher the number of devices, the more powerful SmartThings Find becomes for users.

SmartThings Find can quickly locate multiple types of Samsung Galaxy devices, including smartphones, tablets, watches and earbuds. It can also locate Galaxy SmartTag or SmartTag+² devices, which attach to items such as keys or luggage.

Peace of Mind Through Convenience and Security

As SmartThings Find continues to benefit an increasing number of users, security and privacy remain top priorities for Samsung. To ensure sensitive information is safeguarded, SmartThings Find encrypts user data and implements further protection through Samsung Knox, the defense-grade security platform on Samsung Galaxy devices. A device’s location data is only shared with other people with the user’s permission, and the ID of each user’s device changes every 15 minutes and is stored anonymously.

With the “Search for unknown tags near you” feature, Android and iOS users can easily determine if unknown tags are near them manually. This feature can provide a gauge showing the signal strength of the tag, allowing users to know how close the unknown tag is to their current location. If needed, users can designate certain tags as “safe” if they are identified.

For Galaxy users, SmartThings Find can also provide security through its “Unknown tag alerts” feature. This feature alerts users of any unauthorized tracking by sending them a notification if SmartThings Find detects an unknown SmartTag following them. This helps protect users and prevent against the abuse of location tracking services.

To activate the feature, users should locate the Find service within the SmartThings app’s “Life” tab. Within the settings menu, users can toggle “Unknown tag alerts” feature on and off or search for unknown tags near them manually.

Knox Manage also gives the GSP the ability to limit non-essential app use. This creates a highly simplified user experience and streamlines the apps that the guards need to perform their duties. Minimizing distractions and reducing time spent on devices allows the GSP to ensure maximum focus and productivity.

This feature also allows devices to be restricted in sensitive situations to ensure additional security. Knox Manage could be used during the next papal conclave, for example, to help safeguard information and communications while key decisions are made.

Galaxy Tab Active Series With Knox Suite

The Vatican is perhaps as synonymous with secrecy as it is with tradition. Zero-click exploits are the latest kind of cyberattack, and they can take place any time an image is received. A single image could be hiding malicious code.

While there has been no sign of such attacks on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Samsung Electronics constantly looks ahead to anticipate potential threats and develop preemptive security measures — such as Samsung Message Guard.

Picture this: your phone receives an image. It vibrates gently in your pocket before going still. Or it’s on your bedside table, lighting up briefly as you sleep. You haven’t touched your phone, but someone may already be reading your messages, browsing your gallery and copying your bank details.

Zero-click exploits are just the latest threat in an era of increased cybercrime targeting user data. One in three consumers around the world has been the victim of a data breach where their personal data was hacked.¹ Data breaches are increasingly common, with rates more than tripling between 2013 and 2021.²

Threats evolve, but so too does Samsung’s mobile security. Samsung Galaxy smartphones offer comprehensive safeguards with the powerful Samsung Knox platform, and users are already protected from attacks using video and audio formats. Samsung Message Guard takes that security one step further by preemptively protecting your device, limiting exposure to invisible threats disguised as image attachments.³

The security solution currently works on Samsung Messages and Messages by Google.⁴ In line with Samsung’s philosophy of open collaboration, a software update will roll out at a later date to let Samsung Message Guard protect you across third party messaging apps as well.

A Secure Environment

Samsung Message Guard is an advanced “sandbox,” or a kind of virtual quarantine. When an image file arrives, it is trapped and isolated from the rest of the device. This prevents malicious code from accessing your phone’s files or interacting with its operating system. Samsung Message Guard checks the file bit by bit and processes it in a controlled environment to ensure it cannot infect the rest of your device.

Simply put, Samsung Message Guard automatically neutralizes any potential threat hiding in image files before they have a chance to do you any harm. It also runs silently and largely invisibly in the background and does not need to be activated by the user. So where previously you could be endangered without doing anything, now you are protected from zero-click exploits without lifting a finger.

Samsung Message Guard is just the latest forward-looking security solution from Samsung. Separately, Samsung Galaxy devices already provide industry-leading security and privacy protections in other areas, thanks to the award-winning Samsung Knox. Availability

Samsung Message Guard is a solution on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. It will be gradually rolled out to other Galaxy smartphones and tablets⁵ later this year.

Maintenance Mode is a way of creating a separate user account when you hand in your device to be repaired so they can operate core functions without being able to access to any of your private information. All the user needs to do is select Maintenance Mode in the “Battery and device care” menu within “Settings” and reboot their smartphone. As soon as it’s rebooted, all their personal information including their photos, documents and messages will be restricted.²

Once Maintenance Mode is switched on, the person who was entrusted with the device won’t be able to retrieve user-installed apps either. Data or accounts generated when using Maintenance Mode are automatically deleted as soon as the owner exits Maintenance Mode. They will be able to download apps on Galaxy Store, but those will be automatically deleted along with any data or accounts created as soon as the owner exits Maintenance Mode.

Samsung Galaxy devices are protected by Knox, Samsung’s defence-grade security platform, which offers a multi-layered approach to protection. If you’ve left your phone somewhere away from home, there’s no need to worry. Find My Mobile allows you to lock your phone so no one can use it until you pick it up.

It’s hard to imagine a better time for cyber-criminals. The conditions are ideal right now for anyone with ill intentions and technical know-how.

A rise in remote workers means more reliance on unsecure public Wi-Fi. New frontiers like the blockchain leave confused customers ripe for scams. Cyber-attacks are on the rise. And not just where you expect them. Recent wars have started with digital attacks on critical infrastructure, months before physical incursion.

All this when we are putting more of our lives into our smartphones. They are our wallets, our house keys and our IDs. A single intrusion can be devastating, so now more than ever we need our devices to be secure. What Security Is… and What It Isn’t

By now you’re likely thinking you’re fine, because you’re sensible. But there are many common misconceptions about security. You don’t let apps share your name, email, or habits. You even disable app tracking permissions. Great, but that doesn’t mean your data’s safe. Please don’t confuse privacy for security. You don’t open suspicious attachments. Great, but there are ‘zero-click’ attacks, which compromise a device without user interaction. That happened with Pegasus, spyware that exploited a flaw in a popular messaging system. All it took was for users to receive a message, and the hackers got in. Feeling safer than you are leads to complacency — that’s what cyber-criminals are counting on.

It’s unsettling to think that there are so many threats and no safe harbor. But that’s what inspires our work on Samsung Knox, our industry-leading, defense-grade security platform approved by many governments around the world. We achieved that level of trust through a holistic, multi-layered approach to protection: open collaboration, hardware and software integrated security and real-time protection.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my work with INTERPOL, it is that we are stronger and safer if we work with each other. Trust is built through open collaboration. We work with academics and white hat hackers through our Mobile Security Rewards Program to identify and patch potential vulnerabilities through our regular security updates, and have awarded over $3.5 million worth of bounties to reward them for their valuable collaboration.

This way, we can better identify flaws or even predict them before they become problematic. More eyes, more heads, better solutions. Opening our ecosystem has not led to more vulnerabilities, but to greater and more diverse security practices.

This is why we recently took things to the next level with Knox Vault, which combines the Secure Processor with a new Secure Memory Chip, to isolate the most critical information (such as PINs, passwords, biometrics, digital certificates and cryptographic keys) from the rest of the device to make sure it never gets into the wrong hands. For example, if a major security risk is detected on the device, Samsung Knox will lock down sensitive services such as Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass to keep your data as it should be: for your eyes only.

After booting, our Real-Time Kernel Protection (RKP) and Defeat Exploit (DEFEX) technologies continuously work to detect and prevent suspicious or unauthorized changes to the permissions you have given. We monitor threats constantly and even have an Incident Response and Management team in place, which uses machine learning to predict future threats.

And while a lot of people buy new phones every year, many like to hold on to their phones for longer periods. #1. 2010
The AMOLED Display: Bigger Is Better

One of the major benefits of a smartphone is that it allows users to enjoy content on a large screen with clear picture quality that sits right in the palm of their hand. Samsung kicked off the trend of the large screen era in the smartphone industry with the introduction of their AMOLED display. This display, developed using Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) technology, is characterized by its clear picture quality, self-luminescence and larger screen size.

The Samsung Galaxy S was the world’s first smartphone to be launched with a Super AMOLED display, an ultra-thin screen that consumes less power and provides crisper and more vivid picture quality. With the introduction of the Galaxy S in 2010, users’ interest became piqued in obtaining bigger screens — such as the 4- to 5-inch screens of the AMOLED display compared to the conventional 3-inches on other phones — on which to fully immerse themselves in their favorite content.

Samsung has continued to take its AMOLED technology to the next level by unveiling devices with more powerful and more advanced screens, such as the Galaxy S10, the world’s first mobile device with a High Dynamic Range10+ (HDR10+) supported Dynamic AMOLED display, and the Galaxy S21 series, which features a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with an automatic refresh rate of up to 120Hz based on the content type. Samsung’s innovative technology has enabled silky-smooth scrolling and uninterrupted viewing experiences, even on larger screens.

#2. 2011
The Galaxy Note and S Pen: Adding Analog Touch to Digital Devices

As of 2011, it became no longer necessary to keep notebooks and writing instruments in our bags at all times. With the introduction of the Galaxy Note equipped with S Pen, it is now possible to save and share everything from memos to drawings right on our smartphone’s screen. At that time, the Galaxy Note was launched with an S Pen that supported 256 levels of pressure onto the device’s large screen. Since then, both the Note and the S Pen have become inseparable, and as the series has developed, both have evolved significantly.

For example, Samsung introduced Air Command for the Galaxy Note 3 to give users easy access to signature S Pen features when hovering their S Pen over the screen. The company also then incorporated Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology into the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen so that its stylus pen could also function as a remote control. For the Galaxy Note 10, the addition of Air Action features enabled users to remotely control their device when switching camera modes or zooming in or out, a marked change from previous models which only permitted users to take photos from a distance. In line with this innovative spirit, Samsung introduced the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered S Pen for the Galaxy Note 20 in order to provide users with a more delicate and sophisticated drawing experience, and as of last year, the innovative S Pen is now available on devices such as the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold3 to expand its compatibility.

Samsung Knox: Your Trusted Mobile Bodyguard

We are now living in the era where most of our daily tasks and experiences can be undertaken all with a singular smartphone, meaning that the importance of security cannot be overemphasized. Samsung Knox has become a reliable shield for users concerned about information leakage or virus penetration.

Samsung Knox, installed on Galaxy devices since the Galaxy Note 3 in 2013, protects devices on a step-by-step basis from the chipset to the operating system (OS) and application level, while also blocking hacking and unauthorized access. In 2021, the company launched Samsung Knox Vault with the Galaxy S21 in order to thoroughly ensure the protection of ever-growing amounts of data. In the early 2010s, if you accidentally dropped your smartphone while using it in water, nothing but despair awaited you. To mitigate this, Samsung expanded the horizon of smartphone experiences by applying waterproof and dustproof functions to the Galaxy S5 for the first time in 2014.

From the Galaxy S7 in 2017 onwards, IP68,¹ the highest waterproof and dustproof rating, has been applied to Galaxy devices in order to strengthen their performance. The IP68 rating is given to devices after testing in fresh water at a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes. Advanced Camera Technology: The World’s First Dual Pixel Sensor

In 2016, Samsung raised the smartphone camera function to a new level by installing the industry’s first dual pixel in the Galaxy S7. One UI: Making My Own Galaxy

One UI is an interface that supports the unique user experience of Samsung Galaxy, and was first introduced in November 2018.

By dividing the viewing area and the touching area, the layout of One UI allows users to comfortably perform all operations with just one hand, and all necessary essential functions are included concisely on-screen so that everyone and anyone is able to use it easily. One UI is also characterized by a unified user experience as it has been applied consistently to devices across the Galaxy ecosystem, including smartphones, tablets and wearables.

One UI 4, updated last year, harnesses a completely different color palette with which to decorate a device’s home screen, icons, notifications and wallpapers in your own style. In addition, One UI 4 features strengthened security features, such as allowing users to easily select what to share and what to keep private in order to keep up with users who increasingly value their individuality and their privacy.

Galaxy Z Series: The Dawn of the Era of Foldable Smartphones

In 2019, Samsung pioneered the field of foldable smartphones by unveiling the world’s first Galaxy Z Fold, equipped with a 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display.

Samsung’s newly developed hinge technology makes it possible to open and close the smartphone as smoothly as one opens a book, and offers users secure, long-lasting flexibility that passed a test to withstand 200,000 folds. In 2020, the company’s foldable lineup was expanding to include the Galaxy Z Flip, which features a compact design as the screen unfolds vertically.

Samsung not only pioneered a new form factor, but also new usability options through such functions as Flex mode, which allows for more usage scenarios by fixing the hinge at a specific angle, and Multi-Active Window, which can open and run apps at the same time with applications optimized for the foldable screen for a split screen view.

Last year, Samsung expanded their foldable lineup with the Galaxy Z Fold3, which saw the inclusion of an S Pen and waterproof and dustproof technology, and the colorful, pastel-toned Galaxy Z Flip3 Bespoke Edition, leading the era of foldable popularization.

An AI-Powered Eraser: Removing Unwanted Objects From Photos

As part of Samsung’s mission to expand the application of innovative AI technologies to all smartphones, the company introduced the Object Eraser feature that lets you remove any unwanted objects in your photos with just a touch.

The Object Eraser function, first introduced in the Galaxy S21 in 2021, is a photo editing tool that harnesses artificial intelligence. Simply by touching the object you want to remove from a photo and tapping the ‘object erase’ button, the object is deleted without the need for a separate editing program. Currently, this function is available on smartphones with One UI 3.1 or higher, such as the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Fold3.

Samsung first applied its AI-powered interface, Bixby, to the Galaxy S8 in 2017, and now users can control their major Galaxy devices using only their voice. In addition, Samsung has been incorporating AI technologies into its device OS, battery and camera in order to improve performance and convenience.

Galaxy for the Planet: For a Sustainable Future

Samsung is fully committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its products throughout the entire lifecycle of its smartphones, from the design to the production stage through to their usage and disposal, in order to ensure that Galaxy smartphones contribute to greater environmental sustainability. Under the sustainability vision of its Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, “Galaxy for the Planet,” Samsung is consistently working to achieve a circular economy by reusing and recycling resources in order to build a better Galaxy ecosystem.

One such effort towards sustainability is a reduction of plastic usage in smartphone packaging. The percentage of plastics used in the Galaxy S21 packaging accounts for a mere 4 percent of the total weight, cutting down the waste generated per packaging unit by 49 percent as compared with that of the Galaxy S7. In addition, the Galaxy S21 packaging contains only 58 percent of the paper used in that of the Galaxy S7, helping save some 44,802 trees a year. Samsung plans to exclude plastic materials in its product packaging and apply recycled materials to all of its products in the MX division by 2025.

The products set to be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2022 are drawing attention thanks to the revelation that they have been designed using eco-conscious materials recycled from marine waste. Samsung has succeeded in transforming discarded fishing nets, a major contributor to marine pollution, into a material with which to produce smart devices, and the company plans to apply this material to all its products in the future.

During the event, Samsung highlighted its consumer-centric approach to innovation. In particular, the company showcased how advancements in AI, IoT and security work alongside the breadth of Samsung’s portfolio to create experiences that fit into how people live, ultimately unlocking a new era of connectivity and collaboration.

Platforms Designed for Connected Experiences

A strong platform of technologies across AI, IoT and security enhances the consumer experience and accelerates the ability of developers to build creative applications. Samsung detailed its plans to strengthen core platform technologies such as Bixby, SmartThings and Samsung Knox.

During the SDC21 keynote, Samsung announced improvements to Bixby, which has become a central part of the user experience for more than 300 million Samsung devices. Bixby now uses on-device AI and deep neural networks to process commands on devices themselves. Thanks to on-device AI, this development makes the service up to 35% faster than before.

For developers, Samsung also announced the Bixby Home Platform, which serves as an intelligent layer between Bixby’s natural language processing and SmartThings. With the platform, voice commands can now be executed more intelligently, taking into account the state and context of various devices.

Samsung made further announcements with regard to SmartThings, including how the platform will be fully integrated with Matter, the newest standard in smart home compatibility. Matter solves developer interoperability challenges and with an expansive list of partners, will be the catalyst that makes smart home connectivity nearly effortless. SmartThings Hub software will also be embedded into the Samsung product portfolio, which includes Samsung Smart TVs and Family Hub refrigerators.

Samsung believes that consumer data and personal privacy is just as important as the experiences they enable. Samsung is committed to providing a seamless consumer experience, and to ensuring that its devices and services are secure from beginning to end. Samsung Knox, the company’s defense-grade security platform, offers built-in protection for more than 100 million Samsung devices. To further secure consumer data, the Samsung Knox Vault comes in a combination of security-specific hardware (a new secure processor and isolated secure memory) and new integrated software that shields the most secure data from the Android OS and applications. During the SDC21 keynote, Samsung highlighted the importance of collaboration and its philosophy of open innovation to improve security and privacy, reiterating its work to continue releasing security analysis tools as open source projects.

Samsung also outlined its Privacy Principles at SDC21, highlighting the three commitments that guide all innovation at the company: Protection, Choice and Transparency. With these principles, consumers, developers and partners are given the information needed to make decisions about how data is managed. The company offers users the option to review and manage their permissions from the privacy setting on their Galaxy devices and Smart TVs and discloses Samsung’s privacy policies through the Privacy Portal. Going forward, Samsung will collaborate with global security experts while continuing to release open source security analysis tools to make its ecosystems more secure.

Tizen Takes Smart TV to New Heights

Based on its ‘Screens Everywhere, Screen for All’ vision, Samsung continues to build on its position as the world leader in TVs by developing new experiences that enhance connectivity, functionality and immersive entertainment. At SDC21, Samsung introduced various ways that Samsung TVs are enabling new experiences, including:

• Video communication based on partnership with Google to allow users to enjoy better video calling on TVs via AI-enabled focus and zoom features.
• Samsung Health on Smart TVs that connects with a webcam to analyze movements and provide real-time feedback during a workout.
• More realistic gaming thanks to HDR10+, with automated settings for low latency and HDR calibration.

For enterprises, Samsung will launch Tizen for Business. This service supports interactive e-boards in schools, kiosks in malls, and even displays in restaurants, airports and subways. With new management portals, businesses can conduct real-time monitoring and control screens remotely, easily applying settings to multiple devices with one simple touch.

With the Tizen TV Platform Licensing, manufacturers who want to introduce a premium TV platform like Tizen can do so quickly with minimal cost. This enables them to use the Tizen TV presence to promote their products in the Smart TV market, and ultimately, help more consumers enjoy Tizen.

Innovating Across the Galaxy Ecosystem

Samsung provides a user experience that meets the needs of all users and devices. And with an expanding range of device types and form factors, developers have a breadth of opportunities to innovate in new ways.

At SDC21, Samsung introduced the new One UI 4, the latest version of its user interface for mobile devices. One UI 4 will provide new levels of customization to enable users to create an experience and a device that is truly theirs. It combines Samsung’s leading privacy and security features with options for users to personalize permissions so that they are always in control of their data when using a Samsung device.

Samsung demonstrated the possibilities of One UI 4 to developers at the event, particularly for foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3. Thanks to One UI 4, users will be able to make use of features such as Flex mode and Multi-Active Window, which enable users to enjoy more intuitive and user-friendly experiences that are unique to the foldable form factor. SDC21 also included a Galaxy Watch session that showcased developer tools to help them build new apps in the new watch app ecosystem.

With global access to the Remote Test Lab program, developers from around the world will be able to test their applications remotely on Galaxy test devices, regardless of the country they reside in. Over the last ten years, Samsung has built Remote Test Labs around the world, including in India, Poland, South Korea and the United States. To make access to the program’s services faster and more reliable than ever before,¹ Samsung has now scaled up the program to include labs in Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom and Vietnam.

While they’re on the clock, the Galaxy XCover Pro will create new, convenient ways for them to work, from mobile clock-in and accessing schedules, to managing inventory and using Galaxy XCover Pro’s camera, which we’ve optimized to work seamlessly with Walmart’s barcode scanning process. During their work shift, Walmart associates can also tap a co-worker’s name and initiate a push-to-talk conversation straight from the Galaxy XCover Pro by squeezing the physical side key.

Until now, Walmart associates had to use different devices throughout their shift, from barcode scanners to walkie-talkies. The Galaxy XCover Pro will enable efficiency with entirely new workflows and additional options.

Security for Work Use, Privacy for Personal Use

Beyond its sheer scale and workflow innovation, another aspect that sets Samsung and, specifically the Galaxy XCover Pro, apart is Walmart’s decision to enable its associates to take their devices home, a great perk for employees. As Kellie Romack, Walmart’s vice president for associate experience and customer care, says, “We wanted our associates to use this device all day to serve customers, but then also use it as their personal device if they chose.”

To enable this, Samsung worked with the Walmart team to customize and configure the Galaxy XCover Pro devices. With Samsung Knox, we can create entirely separate work and personal profiles, allowing work applications to stay secure, and personal usage to stay private.

Support for hardware wallets provides Galaxy blockchain with a consistent user experience of managing crypto assets from one convenient location. In addition to the Samsung Blockchain Keystore, Galaxy smartphones can now connect to hardware wallets including the Ledger Nano S and Ledger Nano X.² Samsung Blockchain Wallet users will also be able to keep up with the latest trends in cryptocurrency with a dedicated newsfeed in the app featuring articles from CoinDesk, one of the top blockchain news outlets.

New Mobile Experiences Powered by Advanced Security

After launching with the Galaxy S10 in 2019, the Samsung Blockchain Wallet has grown to support some of the most popular cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, ERC tokens, Tron (TRX), and TRC tokens. It also allows Galaxy users to explore decentralized apps (DApp) that use blockchain technology to authenticate the exchange of digital assets. From games to social media, finance, security and more, Samsung provides access to the latest DApps and offers recommendations for users across a variety of categories.

To store and manage virtual assets, devices must be secure. Samsung’s mobile blockchain solutions are made possible by the defense-grade Samsung Knox security platform. The private keys used for cryptocurrency and DApps are encrypted and stored in an area isolated from the main operating system called the Samsung Blockchain Keystore. This information is further protected by a secure processor and can only be accessed by providing the asset owner’s PIN or fingerprint.

Samsung believes innovation can only happen through an open and collaborative approach and has opened access to its blockchain ecosystem with the Samsung Blockchain SDK. Developers can build DApps that generate, store, and manage blockchain accounts easily and process transactions with APIs dedicated to each ledger system. It also provides APIs allowing DApps to securely sign for transfers of virtual assets using third-party hardware wallets.
