Expansion of Samsung India Electronics Plant Inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Shri Akhilesh Yadav
The expansion of Samsung India Electronics’ state-of-the-art mobile phone plant was inaugurated by Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow today, in the presence of H.E. Joon-gyu Lee,Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India and Mr. Hyun Chil Hong, President & CEO, Samsung India Electronics. Other distinguished delegates present at the event were Shri R.S. Sharma, Hon’ble IT Secretary, Government of India; Shri Alok Ranjan, Hon’ble Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. MyungWouk Kim, Senior Vice President, Noida Plant, Samsung India Electronics and other senior government officials.
Samsung India Electronics has completed 20 years in India and today has three research labs and two manufacturing plants in the country with a total of 45,000 employees. It has invested INR. 517 crores for the expansion of the Noida plant under the UP Mega Policy, reaffirming Samsung’s commitment and contribution towards India’s manufacturing sector. The new phone “Samsung Z1” will also be manufactured at the Noida facility with most of the phone’s software being developed at the Noida Research Centre.
In order to adhere to and meet Global Quality Standards, an online monitoring system has been put in place to monitor the processes on a real time basis. Samsung India Electronics has invested in a modern training facility spread over 35,000 sq. ft. within its manufacturing premises to focus on capability building and skill enhancement of its employees. Samsung India Electronics is committed to strengthen its manufacturing infrastructure and will gradually expand capacity at this plant to meet the growing domestic demand for mobile handsets.
Shri Akhilesh Yadav, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh, said: “It gives me immense pleasure to inaugurate the expansion of Samsung India Electronics mobile plant in Uttar Pradesh. The plant not only contributes to the economic development of the state but also helps in skilling the youth and creating enormous job opportunities in the region. Uttar Pradesh has always promoted and encouraged corporates to establish their factories and R&D centres in the state.”
H.E. Joon-gyu Lee, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to India said: “Korea shares very close ties with the people of Uttar Pradesh. A host of Korean companies operate out of U.P. and have manufacturing facilities in the state. I will like to congratulate Samsung India Electronics for their investments in the Uttar Pradesh and also for being the largest private tax player in the state.”
Mr. Hyun Chil Hong, President & CEO, Samsung India Electronics, said: “Uttar Pradesh is one of the most important states for Samsung and the expansion of the Noida Mobile unit will further strengthen our presence in the country and enhance our manufacturing operations. The Noida factory is a star performer and rates as one of the best facilities across the globe. Currently over 11,000 Samsung employees are working in U.P. and we are looking forward to create more job opportunities in the state.”
