Meet the Solve For Tomorrow Teams Building Solutions for a Sustainable and Environment-Friendly India
What innovations can potentially transform the ‘Environment and Sustainability’ landscape in India? Seven solvers among Solve For Tomorrow’s top 30 teams are on the innovative quest to discover the answer with their game-changing ideas. As a part of the next phase in the competition, these teams will refine their ideas into actionable innovation under the guidance of FITT, IIT Delhi.
Let’s explore their ingenuity and creativity in building solutions for a sustainable and environment-friendly India.
JALRAAJ
JALRAAAJ is the dynamic duo of Akanksha Singh Patel, and Aman Verma from Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh. Together, they wish to tackle the growing lack of drinking water using saline seawater. Their innovation, JALRAAJ, is a portable and heavy water filtration plant that converts salt water into drinking water using renewable energy sources such as sunlight and wind. Representing the team, Aman says, “Our innovation will help us and future generations. We believe we can make it big with Solve For Tomorrow.”
ReLeathered
Team ReLeathered comprises Akshat Agarwal, Gargi Raj, and Shantanu Yadav from Darjeeling, West Bengal. The trio seeks to address the harmful practice of tanning leather using non-biodegradable chemicals. Their innovative quest is to bring true sustainability to leather production using biodegradable, plant-based tanning agents. Sharing the team’s vision, Akshat says, “We think Solve For Tomorrow will be a good learning experience for us, especially in getting insights about our innovation. We look forward to building a startup around this idea and bringing it to the market.”
SriSolarScrub Innovators
SriSolarScrub Innovators is the joint venture of Naman Sethi and Prerna Mittal from Faridabad, Haryana. They seek to address the gradual decline in the efficiency of solar panels due to exposure to harsh environments and the accumulation of dirt. They have conceptualized a mobile-controlled robot that will automatically clean the panels at fixed durations and improve their efficiency to achieve their goal.
Team TEG
Hailing from Lakhimpur, Assam, Team TEG is a duo comprising Abhinav Dutta and Mithun Nandish Reddy. They wish to address the rising amount of food waste and its harmful disposal in landfills. To achieve their goal, they conceptualized a cost-effective Biogas Digester, which will convert food waste into two fuel types: biofuel and biodiesel. This Biogas Digester will significantly reduce the reliance on landfills for dumping food waste while creating sustainable energy.
Sivani
Team Sivani is the solo venture of Parthana Borah from Sivsagar, Assam. Parthana seeks an innovative alternative to dumping plastic waste into landfills and oceans. Team Sivani’s innovation is an eco-brick made entirely out of unrecyclable plastic that can be used as a building block for constructing houses. This eco-friendly building block will be cost-effective and offer better insulation than traditional alternatives.
Demeter
Team Demeter comprises Abdul Rahman Jasbeer K A, Prithvi Ullas, and Asheen Afthab M from Ernakulam, Kerala. The team seeks to revolutionize the detection and prevention of diseases in crops. To achieve this, the trio has conceptualized an aerial drone equipped with a multispectral camera and Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) communications. The drone can identify the disease and sprinkle pesticides in each area effectively. Elaborating on the idea, Abdul Rahiman Jasbeer K A says, “We already have a prototype which we seek to refine and get funded with Solve For Tomorrow. We aim to start a drone company that caters to the agriculture sector.”
Team NIT Surat
Team NIT Surat is a trio comprising Aditi Tapariya, Harshil Mistry, and Vaibhav Gupta from Surat, Gujrat. They seek to address the accumulation of waste on beaches and its impact on the environment and marine life. To tackle this issue, they have conceptualized a beach cleaning robot that is equipped with optimum scanners to detect and identify different kinds of waste. Sharing the team’s vision, Vaibhav says, “With Solve For Tomorrow, we wish to learn more about innovation and connect with tech leaders and experts. Our focus right now is to refine our product.”
