The country’s biggest consumer electronics company, Samsung, is offering 150 fresh scholarships to engineering students this year, taking the total number of scholarships offered under the program to 300.

These scholarships of Rs 2 lakh a year are for students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools, who have cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced to qualify for Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or National Institute of Technology (NIT) this year.

Samsung India has a partnership with Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti since 2013. Under the agreement, it runs Samsung Smart Class in 476 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools across the country.

The Samsung Star Scholar program was started in 2016, wherein 150 students were provided scholarships for their higher studies. These students will now get scholarship for their second year course.

Each selected student will get financial support of up to Rs 2 lakh, which will be provided every year for up to five years to the scholarship recipients to help cover a significant share of their educational expenses, including tuition, hostel and mess expenses.

“We seek to support them to get the recognition that they deserve and pursue their dreams to study at top colleges in the country,” he said.

The selection of 150 students for the ‘Samsung Star Scholar’ program will be based on the student’s ranking in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced for B. Tech/Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech).
