Solve For Tomorrow Season 2: Team Demeter Aims to Revolutionize Detection and Prevention of Crop Diseases With Their Innovative Aerial Drone
Natives of ‘Gods Own Country’, Ernakulam, Kerala, team Demeter is the ambitious trio of Abdul Rahman Jasbeer K A, Prithvi Ullas, and Asheen Afthab M. Collectively, they seek to revolutionize the detection and prevention of diseases in agricultural crops and enhance their production under ‘Environment and Sustainability’ theme of Solve For Tomorrow 2023.
Every year, crops worth crores are lost to pests and diseases in India. Determined to mitigate such loss and to increase the yield, team Demeter has conceptualized an aerial drone capable of early identification and prevention of diseases and pests.
Their aerial drone will be equipped with a multispectral camera and Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) communication for accurately identifying the disease and determining the appropriate timing and dosage of pesticides. The drone can be easily operated and would be able to effectively sprinkle pesticides in a particular area.
Team Demeter believes that their innovation has the potential to bring a positive impact on agricultural practices across India and reduce the excessive use of pesticides. Elaborating on the team’s innovation and their expectation with Solve for Tomorrow, Abdul Rahiman Jasbeer K A says, “We already have a prototype which we seek to refine and get funding for through Solve For Tomorrow. We aim to start a drone company that caters to the various needs of the agriculture sector in India.”
