Samsung India has entered into a partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu to add 15 new Samsung Smart Healthcare centres across the state and provide affordable and quality healthcare to patients from the economically and socially weaker sections of society.
As part of its Smart Healthcare program, Samsung will provide advanced and innovative healthcare equipment such as digital ultrasound and digital x-ray machines manufactured by the Company along with Samsung LED TV, a Samsung air conditioner and refrigerator to selected government hospitals across the state.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Samsung India and Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu in November 2017. Today, Thiru Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu formally launched 15 Samsung Smart Healthcare centres in the state by inaugurating the healthcare centre at Government Hospital in Edappadi, Salem District. Also present at the inauguration were Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Thiru M. C. Sampath, Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu.
Shri Thiru Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, said, “Development on the healthcare front is the need of the hour today. We welcome support from Samsung India for helping us cater to the need for quality healthcare with Samsung Smart Healthcare initiative. Our government is working towards creating better medical facilities for the public and this collaboration with Samsung for the Smart Healthcare program will go a long way in fulfilling that vision.”
“Samsung believes in transforming communities and creating a better life for people. We are pleased to partner with Tamil Nadu government to offer healthcare solutions with the effective use of technology. Through this collaboration, we aspire to provide many more people in the state and its adjoining areas easy access to advanced healthcare facilities. Samsung Smart Healthcare combines good infrastructure, latest technology and the best available medical expertise,” said Mr. Deepak Bhardwaj, Vice President, CSR, Samsung India.
In the healthcare space, Samsung works across the entire value chain—tertiary, secondary and primary healthcare.
Samsung Smart Healthcare program aims to support the Government’s efforts to benefit communities with limited access to quality healthcare across primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
With innovative products such as digital ultrasound, digital radiology and accessories that facilitate healthcare intervention and multiple medical examinations, since 2015, Samsung has collaborated with 18 government hospitals across the country, catering to secondary and tertiary healthcare in different states.
This partnership with Tamil Nadu government for 15 Samsung Smart Healthcare centres will cater to secondary healthcare in the state.
At the primary level, Samsung has partnered with the Government of Karnataka to help the state efficiently manage its public healthcare facilities. Samsung has given over 1,000 Samsung Tab IRIS to the Public Health Centers (PHC) in the state to build their database in a digital format. The program helps in information support to Government to proactively intervene for improved health of citizens and target its welfare schemes more efficiently. Tab IRIS is the first commercial IRIS integrated tablet to be approved by UIDAI for Aadhaar and KYC verification.
Recently, Samsung India and Apollo Hospitals have signed a collaboration to jointly run the Samsung-Apollo Mobile Medical Care Unit Program to screen large sections of our population, especially under-privileged sections, for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Mobile Medical Care Units (buses), fully loaded with the screening technology including ECG, Stress Test, Echocardiogram, Ultrasound, Mammogram, Pap Smear and blood sample collection will be operated in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
So far, over 3.5 lakh patients from the economically and socially deprived sections of society have been impacted positively by Samsung Smart Healthcare centres across India. Doctors, technicians and radiologists are also trained to handle state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and software.
