Team Milaan is an all-boys team of Delhiites Utkarsh, Rakshit Kumar, and Yash Kumar Jarwal. Together, they seek to address the massive rise in the issue of missing children across India, approximated at a staggering 200 per day. The trio seeks to innovate to prevent such incidents under the Diversity and Inclusion theme of Solve for Tomorrow season 2.

Milaan is a Hindi word which translates into the idea of a union, a sense of community and togetherness and to meet.

To achieve their goal, the team has conceptualized Milaan, an Android-based app that will allow guardians to register their children, report the missing, and connect with larger communities for help.

If a child goes missing, the guardian can send an alert on the app. Anyone who finds a child fitting the profile can upload an image on the app, which is processed via Python with TensorFlow, OpenCV, and FaceNet for facial recognition. If a match is found in the app’s SQLite database, the user is given the option to contact authorities or the guardian via a server-based call.

Furthermore, all the sensitive data uploaded on the app will be encrypted and stored securely to ensure careful handling of data and adherence to legal requirements.

Sharing the team’s focus and goals with their Solve For Tomorrow journey, Utkarsh says, “Our focus is developing our app, and we believe with SFT’s funding and exposure, we’ll be able to make it a reality. We look forward to learning from IIT, Delhi experts innovate for a better India.”
