The ultimate photo-taking device featuring best-in-class dual camera, dual OIS on both lenses, along with new Live Focus and Dual Capture features!

Kuala Lumpur, 6 September 2017 – Pictures capture the essence of life. They evoke emotions, they tell stories and they inspire dreams. Pictures when properly taken are powerful; and while photography skills are essential in great picture-taking, the tools used to take pictures make a world of difference. In a mobile photography workshop held recently, Samsung Malaysia Electronics together with artistic photographer Michael Yeoh taught users the art and science behind the capture of stunning portraits and landscapes by using the brand’s first and powerful dual camera smartphone, the Galaxy Note8.

“Our vision is to take smartphone photography to a whole new level, to redefine the future of photography. We want users to capture special moments the way they want to remember them and our latest mobile camera innovations introduced in the Galaxy Note8 allow them to just do that. We want users to do what they can’t before, to capture big and express bigger,” said Mr KM Liew, Head of IM Business, Samsung Malaysia Electronics.

The Dual Camera

The Galaxy Note8’s dual camera is made up of two separate cameras and their respective image sensors that work in a complimentary way to each other. One camera functions like a normal camera, capturing colour images while the second camera adds elements that are not captured with the primary sensor (first camera). When a user takes a picture, two separate images are captured. It is the combination of both of these images that produce a clear, high-quality photography with a greater depth of field. It also utilizes both the phone’s rear wide-angle lens and telephoto lens simultaneously to product optimal results.

Zooming Capabilities

With 2X optical and up to 10X digital zooming capabilities, the dual camera is able to capture clear, high quality close-up shots, be it far distances or low lighting conditions. The telephoto lens uses the optics or optical zoom of the camera, to make the subject appear close without enlarging any portion of it compared to how digital zoom does. In doing so, the optical zoom produces professional-looking images without losing quality. For example, when taking a picture during a concert, users are now able to zoom in and capture all details on the stage.

Stand Tall Above All

In addition to its zooming capabilities, the dual camera, with its fast F1.7 wide-angle lens with Dual Pixel technology and F2.4 telephoto lens, quickly and accurately pinpoints the subject to which the user is focusing on, and thus able to capture sharper and brighter shots even in low light conditions. With the dual Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), users can get crisp, focused images in all lighting conditions, even when they are shooting with an unsteady hand.

Furthermore, new Live Focus and Dual Capture feature gives users creative control to produce stunning photographs that stands above the rest. For example, with Live Focus, it allows user to adjust the bokeh effect – the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image – to change the depth of field of a shot. Users can control the intensity of the overall blur effect and apply it before taking the image in preview mode, or after capturing the photo in the Gallery app.

While many users prefer to make their subjects stand out by blurring the scenery around them, sometimes the background is just as important, such as when capturing a loved one in front of a famous iconic landmark. In Dual Capture mode, both the phone’s rear wide-angle and telephoto lenses work simultaneously to capture two separate images. Users can then access both zoomed-in and wide angel versions of the shot from the Gallery.

The Galaxy Note8 is also equipped with an industry-leading 8MP F1.7 autofocus front-facing camera for sharp selfies and video chats. Its bright lens keeps details clear even in low light, while Smart Auto Focus tracks the faces in the shot.

Incorporating Samsung’s best-in-class dual camera, with dual OIS on both lenses, along with new Live Focus and Dual Capture features, the Galaxy Note8 is the ultimate device for taking photos that are crisp, clear and capture special moments in the way users want to remember them.
