JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 30 June 2021 – In a rapidly evolving technological landscape, Samsung South Africa continues to create programmes and opportunities for young people. Inspired by Samsung’s global vision of Enabling People the company has invested in education programmes that empower young people to do more. Lefa Treasure Makgato is an incredible example of someone who seized the opportunities she was presented with by Samsung. Impressively, she is now the person who presents opportunities to others. We spoke to her about her journey.

When and how did you join Samsung?

My journey with Samsung started back in 2012 when Samsung introduced one of its Corporate Social Investment Programmes called the Solar Powered Internet School at Phomolong Secondary School. I was completing my matric at the time and was a beneficiary of this innovative programme. Five years down the line I found myself in the big boardrooms of Samsung South Africa as a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Coordinator.

How has Samsung empowered you?

Samsung has enabled me to see beyond the disadvantaged community I came from. The company continues to empower me through my own CSI projects that now empower others. I am living testament that corporates can change the lives of the youth one child at a time.

What has been your biggest career highlight while at Samsung?

My love of CSI was clearly inspired by the fact that someone from Samsung South Africa took a leap of faith to empower and uplift young children from disadvantaged communities and I was one of those fortunate youth. I now make it my daily goal to ensure that through my work I touch as many lives as I possibly can so that more young people can be afforded the same opportunities as me. The ability to impact and change young people’s lives everyday through Samsung’s Corporate Citizenship initiatives is easily the biggest highlight of my career.

What does Technology mean to you?

Technology to me means being enabled.  Through technology we can do the unthinkable and change lives.

Lefa is truly a shining example of the power of technology to change lives.
