Samsung’s Colour E-Paper Brings Ultra Low Energy Consumption and Flexibility

Samsung Colour E-Paper (EMDX model) redefines digital signage, digitising the traditional paper experience.

The transition from paper to digital in-store advertising solutions is gaining traction among retailers seeking to improve business efficiency. The Australian launch of the Samsung Colour E-Paper comes as PwC Australia research indicates that 64% of retail businesses surveyed have observed greater cost-effectiveness with alternative digital signage compared to paper-based alternatives[2]. Additionally, 74% of retail businesses surveyed perceive digital in-store point-of-sale (POS) could lower costs by up to 50%, enough for 47% to consider switching from paper-based advertising[3].

Samsung’s ultra-low power consumption, lightweight and slim display provides a digital alternative to promotional materials while delivering the high visibility and functionality that businesses demand. This comes as 46% of retail businesses surveyed by PwC Australia say environmental considerations have a moderate to high influence on their choice of in-store advertising solutions[4].

The EMDX operates with minimal power when displaying static images. The ultra-slim and lightweight design ensures effortless installation, with its 32” size (2,560 x 1,440) optimised to display in either landscape or portrait orientation. The Colour E-Paper also includes a rechargeable 4600mAh battery, two USB-C ports for charging and data transfer, 8GB of memory, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support for enhanced connectivity.

For seamless device management, users can manage a fleet of Samsung Colour E-Paper displays remotely through cloud-based Samsung VXT[5] (Visual eXperience Transformation), Content Management System (CMS); or through a dedicated mobile app[6]. Users can also operate multiple displays, including scheduled wake-up and sleep times, and content scheduling. A specialised algorithm optimises content visibility for the display and includes a preview function to ensure content and colour are accurate before deployment.

As part of Samsung’s ongoing commitment to a sustainable future, select components of the Colour E-Paper contains a minimum of 55% post-consumer recycled content[7], while its packaging is made from paper and corrugated board, including the box, cushion, handle and accessory box.[8] The Samsung Colour E-Paper is available in Australia through authorised Samsung re-sellers or distributors.

With dual SIM support (pSIM + eSIM) on the Tab Active5 Pro, workers can effortlessly switch between networks, keeping them connected in any environment.

The Tab Active5 Pro introduces front-facing NFC Tagging, enhancing usability in retail, hospitality and logistics environments where fast, secure interactions are essential. Enabling seamless authentication, asset tracking and mobile payments, the tablet can effectively be used as a mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) system[23] in retail stores and restaurants alike. Employees can quickly validate credentials, process transactions and manage assets without any additional hardware, enhancing efficiency in industries where speed and security are critical.

Maximised Productivity: Smarter Tools for the Frontline

Samsung’s latest ruggedised devices also introduce AI-driven enhancements,[24] reinforcing Samsung’s commitment to expanding AI capabilities across its entire ecosystem. These intelligent features make everyday tasks more intuitive and efficient, helping frontline professionals work smarter and faster in dynamic environments while making advanced AI more accessible across a broader range of devices.

Equipped with high-performance chipsets, enhanced usability features and intuitive AI-powered tools, both devices enable workers to multitask with ease. Features like Circle to Search with Google,[25] Object Eraser, AI Select and Read Aloud allow users to complete tasks more efficiently, reducing manual effort and improving accuracy[26]. The Galaxy XCover7 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon® 7s Gen 3 Mobile Platform (4nm Octa-Core) chipset which optimises power efficiency and processing speed, while the Tab Active5 Pro, featuring the same chipset, delivers increased RAM and expanded storage options to handle demanding workloads.

Designed for professionals who need flexibility, both devices support Samsung DeX, allowing them to connect to a monitor for a desktop-like experience. Additionally, programmable keys allow users to assign shortcuts to frequently used applications, such as barcode scanning, push-to-talk or emergency alerts. This customisation enhances workflow efficiency, reducing time spent navigating menus and improving responsiveness in critical situations.

Security remains a cornerstone of Samsung’s ruggedised devices, with Samsung Knox Vault[27] helping to protect sensitive data through encryption and authentication. Beyond that, Samsung offers a comprehensive suite of security innovations designed to provide protection, transparency and user control. Real-time Kernel Protection and DEFEX deliver runtime protection at both the app and kernel layers, while Samsung’s Warranty Bit detects tampering and restricts access to sensitive applications, such as Work Profile, helping to maintain a trusted device environment.
