Samsung Vision AI also delivers exceptional advancements in picture and sound quality, making every on-screen moment captivating. On-device AI picture and sound technologies analyse content and environmental factors in real time, dynamically adjusting visuals and audio for an optimised experience.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today released its Summer Viewing Report, which unveils new research into how Australians will be embracing television

Samsung Electronics Australia has today released its Summer Viewing Report, which unveils new research into how Australians will be embracing television viewing over the summer holiday period, with 94% of the nation set to watch movies from the comfort of their home during this time.

The report[1] commissioned by Samsung found that average person intends to watch 6 movies and 4.3 shows throughout the summer season, with the majority embracing the holiday spirit with Christmas movies, tuning into the big sporting moments, and binge-watching iconic TV shows.

With a screen for every Australian lifestyle, passion, and living space, Samsung’s TV range delivers big screen premium viewing and gaming experiences, while incorporating more personalisation options, and smart home connectivity.

“As Australians seek meaningful moments at home, we’ve seen the TV take centre stage and become the focal point for shared traditions – from bringing the family together for their favourite film, to connecting friends as they watch their sporting teams battle it out.

Our insights show that TVs are more than entertainment units, and at Samsung, we’re proud to play a part in redefining the landscape by making big screen experiences accessible, intuitive and personalised to Australians. Whether it’s the cinematic grandeur of a 98-inch screen or the versatility of outdoor and Lifestyle TVs, our line-up caters to every preference, all whilst delivering impeccable big screen picture and sound quality,” said Simon Howe, Director of Audio Visual, Samsung Electronics Australia.

Streaming into the Holiday Spirit

With the festive season fast approaching, Australians are preparing to deck the halls with households across the nation settling into the holidays by watching their favourite festive films. Three in five (64%) Australians say it doesn’t feel like Christmas without watching a “Christmas movie”, and over two-thirds (67%) of the nation plan to watch at least one festive movie in the lead up to 25 December.

For 44% of Australians, it is a tradition to watch the same Christmas movie every year with loved ones. In fact, Australians have watched their favourite festive flick 8.8 times on average. According to the report, Home Alone is Australia’s most popular holiday movie (15%), edging out the lead over Elf (9%), and followed by The Grinch (8%), Love Actually (7%) and Die Hard (6%). With men being five times more likely to watch Die Hard than women throughout the festive period. Outside of the glow of red and green lights, 47% of Australians admit they watch Christmas movies throughout the year to bring festive cheer to their daily lives.

Screening a Summer of Sports

Down under, summer ushers in a festive blend of Christmas, carols and a love for all things cricket. Samsung’s Summer Viewing Report has found that three in five (59%) Australians planning to watch sports over the holiday period, with cricket the most popular code (30%), followed by tennis (24%) and football/soccer (16%). In fact, one-third (33%) of the nation says they “always watch the Boxing Day Test”.

When it comes to enjoying this season’s major sporting moments, a staggering 97% of Australians plan to tune in from the comfort of their couch or from a mate’s place, and 16% intend to embrace the action from a pub or venue.

Regardless of where they choose to watch, Australians are opting for the best seat in the house, with those tuning in from home embracing big screen TVs, with 42% owning a screen over 60 inches and 11% over 75 inches – putting them right on the side lines so they don’t miss a minute of the action.

And for those, who can’t get enough of this summer of sports, Samsung now offers a huge sporting line up with its Samsung TV plus offering. Launched in 2017, as one of the first FAST (free ad supported television) services in Australia, Samsung TV Plus has steadily expanded its reach and content offering to deliver over 100 channels, with over 17 free premium sports channels available. This includes the world’s first cricket FAST channel, in partnership with Cricket Australia that launched earlier this month. Cricket Gold, bowls fans over with hours of archive footage including classic matches, game highlights and informative documentaries from the Cricket Australia films vault.

Pressing Play on movies and shows

As the nation is typically set to embrace more downtime over the holiday season, two in five (40%) of Australians intend to watch more movies than usual with the average person screening 5.8 films. Conversely, over one in four (27%) Australians plan to watch more TV shows than usual, with the average Australian set to watch 4.3 shows over the summer break.

When it comes to content, Australians are seeking comedic relief, with the most popular genre being comedy (69%), however they also want to be kept on the edge of their seat with drama (51%) taking the second spot, and crime (39%), romance (36%), documentary (34%) and reality (30%) following suit. Over half (52%) of Australians will be looking for something new to watch, while one-quarter (25%) will seek familiar faces and opt to re-watch old favourites such as Friends and The Office.

Aussies take control, one click at a time

When it comes to watching content Australians like to be in the driver’s seat, with 55% of Australians stating they “always like” to be in control of the remote when watching movies or shows with others, whilst 47% prefer to watch TV alone to avoid fights over the remote.

Not only do Australians want to be able to call the shots on what they watch, but they also aren’t shy about being volume maestros either. Almost half of the nation (47%) is hyper-aware of their TV’s volume levels, ensuring this is “always” set to a multiple of 2 or 5. Even numbers are more popular and the preference of over one-third (36%), while 27% prefer a multiple of 5.

Millennials and Gen Z Australians appear to be the most passionate about controlling the TV viewing experience, with the report revealing 62% want to hold the remote and almost half (49%) ensure the volume level is even.

Tuning in on the go and with our nearest and dearest

This summer, Australians are set to take their viewing on the road, into the great outdoors, and beyond. To stay entertained all season long, Australians will be streaming their favourite movies and programs from holiday homes (10%), in transit like on a plane or in the car (6%), and even while camping (4%). Those who own a projector are 43% more likely to be watching TV over the break, likely thanks to the ability to view from anywhere while embracing the warm, summer weather.

TV viewing is both a solo and shared experience, with 48% of the nation often watching their favourite movie with their partner and the same percentage on their own. Women are slightly more inclined to tune in by themselves and gain some much needed down time (50% vs. 45% of men), while gathering the family to watch a movie together remains popular amongst single and couples with kids at home parents nationwide (69% and 60% respectively).

A Screen for Every Experience

With Australians embracing at home TV and movie viewing over the summer period, Samsung’s 2023 AV range offers a screen experience for virtually every Australian lifestyle, passion, and living space.

Supported by Samsung’s Quantum-dot technology and Tizen Operating System, the 98-inch QLED Q80C offers immersive premium picture quality and prominent streaming and gaming apps built-in, meeting this local demand for customised big screen entertainment experiences at home.

“We’ve worked hard to not only pack our premium AV technologies into a 98-inch form factor but to bring the best of Samsung’s entertainment ecosystem including Gaming Hub[2], Smart Hub, and Samsung TV Plus to the QLED Q80C TV as standard. Our aim is to deliver the type of no-compromise big screen home cinema experiences that Australians desire while continually working to make them more accessible to more Australians to enjoy,” says Jeremy Senior, Vice-President, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Australia.

Ultra-Large Screen and Mesmerising Quality

The new Samsung QLED Q80C 4K TV joins Samsung’s 98-inch Neo QLED QN90A TV in the Australian marketplace as ultra-large displays that offer big immersive experiences enhanced by Samsung’s innovative picture optimisation technology and SuperSlim design credentials.

Pairing Direct Full Array and Quantum HDR+ technology[3] with a Quantum Processor 4K, Samsung’s QLED Q80C uses a deep learning picture enhancement algorithm to upscale content to 4K resolution, providing incredible picture quality with minimal noise[4]. Samsung’s LED zone technology adjusts brightness and black levels for bold contrast, depth and detail while Samsung’s Quantum Dot technology delivers more than 100% colour volume enabling accurate colour reproduction at any level of brightness[5].

At a mere 48.5mm top to bottom, the Q80C’s beautiful SuperSlim design provides a near-bezeless finish to deliver a rich edge-to-edge picture that defies limits and a TV profile that can blend comfortably into virtually any space. Despite its slim bezel, the QLED Q80C packs a powerful punch when it comes to audio, thanks to the inclusion of Dolby Atmos[6], Object Tracking Sound Lite[7], and Samsung’s latest generation of Q-Symphony[8].

Samsung Electronics Australia today announces its 2022 line-up of Neo QLED and Lifestyle TVs, revealing advancements in picture and sound quality, more screen size options, customisable accessories and an upgraded Smart TV interface setting a new benchmark for home entertainment.[1]

Created to suit the evolving needs of how TVs are being used in Australian homes, Samsung Electronics Vice President of Consumer Electronics, Jeremy Senior said “bigger screens, optimal sound quality and state-of-the-art picture quality remain of the highest priority for Australians as they look for premium at-home entertainment experiences. Samsung’s Neo QLED TVs bring exceptional levels of colour and brightness to the viewing experience, producing a crisp and life-like picture, that can clearly be viewed in bright rooms, ideal for Australian living conditions.”

“The innovations Samsung brings to its range in 2022 allows Australians to have not just a TV, but a customisable and personalised screen that can be used to showcase and purchase art, experience content, work, play and connect with their favourite people.”

Evolution of Neo QLED with Neo Quantum Processor and Dynamic Sound Experience

Thanks to the Neo Quantum Processor and the incredible picture technology and sound it delivers, 2022 Neo QLED will provide pristine images and immersive soundscapes that have never before been experienced by Australians.

This year’s Neo Quantum Processor introduces a new Shape Adaptive Light technology that leverages the Processor’s powerful AI algorithms to analyse lines, shapes and surfaces and control the shape of light from the advanced Quantum Mini LED backlight, maximising the brightness and accuracy of shapes on the screen. The result is outstanding image quality that puts HDR content on full display and unlocks the enhanced 14-bit HDR processing which quadruples Neo QLED’s greyscale levels compared to 2021 for the most accurate image ever produced on a Samsung TV.

Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED also features Real Depth Enhancer, a multi-intelligence picture quality algorithm that creates a great sense of realism by determining and processing an object on the screen against its background to create a sense of depth.

Additionally, Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLED features the screen’s brightness and tone based on a built-in light sensor and sunset/sunrise information.[2] As the ambient light changes, the screen will gradually reduce the amount of light and offer warmer tones, adjusting the blue light levels accordingly. This allows for a more comfortable viewing experience at night by reducing blue light.

Neo QLED’s sound features are getting a major upgrade as well. Building on OTS (Object Tracking Sound), which directs the sound to move across the room along with the object on-screen, 2022 Neo QLED will take their proprietary technology to another level with native Dolby Atmos support – the industry’s first TV to support Dolby Atmos with upwards and side firing speakers for three dimensional sound without the need for peripheral devices[3]

“Samsung’s 2022 Neo QLEDs will offer Dolby Atmos directly out of the box. We are proud to incorporate industry-leading audio technology for an impressive three-dimensional sound experience. With multi-channel speakers placed throughout the TV, Neo QLED delivers a dynamic sound experience that tracks the actions from all corners.”

The New Smart Hub and Apps for the Ultimate User Experience

Samsung’s 2022 Smart TVs come with a new Smart Hub that puts content curation and discovery front and center with their viewing preferences. The new Smart Hub will guide users to their favourite content or help them discover something new without spending time searching. The Smart Hub’s sidebar also allows for a seamless transition between categories – Media and Ambient – letting users focus on various in-home activities.

Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle screens seamlessly blend design and technology for a unique and personalised experience. A new Anti-Glare Matte Display with anti-reflection and anti-fingerprint properties has been applied to The Frame, The Sero and The Serif, providing an exceptionally pleasant and comfortable viewing experiences. As a result, the new Anti-Glare Matte Display on Samsung’s 2022 Lifestyle screens received three verifications from UL.[6]

The Frame now offers an incredibly realistic art viewing experience outside of a museum thanks to the anti-glare, low-reflection panel technology featuring an embossed, Anti-Glare Matte Display. It also helps minimise fingerprints and smudges, allowing users to enjoy their favorite artwork in excellent condition. The Frame comes in sizes ranging from 32” to 85”.

The Serif also comes with a matte finish body to blend seamlessly with the Anti-Glare Matte Display, elevating the iconic design to give a premium look and feel. With the addition of a 65” size option, The Serif is now offered in sizes ranging from 43” to 65”.

The Sero offers an optimised watching experience with its new Matte Display in both vertical and horizontal modes and will now be available in both Blue and White coloured variants. The new vertical MultiView takes multitasking to the next level, allowing users to simultaneously view different content on the top and bottom of the screen, or search information online while watching.[7]

“As with any living space, light can often be the biggest challenge as reflections can impact the way people view and enjoy art and images. With this in mind, Samsung has incorporated cutting-edge anti-glare and anti-reflection technology into the newest model of The Frame, The Serif and The Sero, providing a realistic experience for when utilising the TV in Art and Ambient Mode+.” concludes Senior.

More Accessory Options Customisable to Users’ Needs and Tastes

The 2022 Samsung TV models also come with expanded accessories to personalise the user experience. The Auto Rotating Wall Mount and Stand accessories allow compatible TVs to inherit the vertical viewing experience from The Sero, allowing users to enjoy mobile viewing by automatically rotating their screens all from the convenience of the remote control.[8]

To complement the accessory, the 2022 products will support a vertical interface, including the Smart Hub, and offer a vertical Multi View feature. It will offer apps such as YouTube as well as mirroring and casting in vertical mode. Lastly, lifestyle features such as Ambient Mode+ and Art Mode are also available in vertical mode. The new rotation key on the remote control lets users easily rotate the screen with a click of a button.

Samsung Electronics Australia has today expanded its lifestyle television offering with the launch of The Terrace QLED 4K TV and Soundbar, a new category that takes the indoor home entertainment experience outdoors. Available in 55, 65 and 75-inch models, The Terrace is built for outdoor entertainment1 and delivers Samsung’s industry-leading QLED technology, Smart TV features and a powerful audio experience.

“As a nation we love the outdoors and entertaining, especially as we come into summer, and The Terrace brings outdoor entertainment to life,” explains Hass Mahdi, Director of Audio Visual, Samsung Electronics Australia. “With a crystal clear QLED display and advanced Anti-Glare Technology, The Terrace is ideal to watch the big game with mates over a BBQ, or enjoy a family movie night on a warm summer’s evening.”

“The home is our sanctuary. Now more than ever as we adjust to life in the absence of large sporting events, live entertainment, and big gatherings – there is a demand for entertainment at home on the big screen”.

Built for Outdoor Entertaining

Offering a 4K resolution QLED display with 2,000 nits brightness (that’s three times the brightness of a TU8000 Samsung TV), it delivers clear visibility in outdoor conditions, whatever time you choose to turn it on. The Terrace also has an IP552 weather resistance rating3, which means you can take the action outside with peace-of-mind, and enjoy a new kind of match day or movie night. Additionally, The Terrace includes Samsung’s advanced Anti-Glare Technology which helps stop reflections and glare getting in the way of the action.

The display is also perfect for sports fans; with a high 200Hz Motion Rate which is ideal for fast-moving content. Whether you’re manning the BBQ or sitting by the garden, the Wide Viewing Angle will help ensure you’re not missing out on the action.

Smart TV Experience Australians Know and Love

Bringing the same experience Australians expect from some of Samsung’s QLED 8K and 4K models, The Terrace comes with coveted features including Multi View* and Tap View^ for mobile connectivity, built-in voice assistants including Bixby and Alexa, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. Allowing Aussies to watch, listen, and play their favourite content
at the touch of a button, with access to leading apps including Netflix, YouTube, Foxtel, Kayo and Disney+⁵. Intelligent Mode adapts picture and sound to the TV’s surroundings4 so no matter how loud your mates get on match day, you’ll still enjoy incredible picture and sound quality.

The Terrace Soundbar boasts powerful sound that compliments an outdoor TV entertainment experience.⁶ Featuring a sleek, one-body design and IP55 level weather-resistance², The Terrace Soundbar can be mounted to a wall, or directly to The Terrace TV.
