Samsung Electronics today announced that its latest TVs, monitors and commercial display products have been technically evaluated for compliance with the European Union’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED), including updated cybersecurity requirements that take effect on August 1, 2025.

“With the growing emphasis on security in the industry, we are strengthening security features to stay ahead of this evolving trend,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “In addition to this achievement, we are committed to introducing innovations with advanced security and technology globally, thereby reinforcing customer trust in our solutions.”

The EU’s RED, introduced in 2016, establishes essential requirements for the safety, electromagnetic compatibility and efficient spectrum use of radio-equipped products. In 2022, the EU announced expanded cybersecurity rules under the RED to improve protection against network threats, safeguard personal data and reduce the risk of fraud. These new provisions will become mandatory starting August 2025.

The TÜV SÜD assessment covers Samsung’s entire 2024–2025 visual display lineup for the European market, including TVs, monitors, digital signage and Color E-Paper. Samsung is actively extending this compliance process to all applicable product lines as part of its global regulatory readiness strategy.

In fact, this focus on compliance reflects a broader, ongoing commitment to product security across Samsung’s ecosystem. In 2024, the company’s proprietary cryptographic module,

Today’s consumers are redefining what it means to live well. Beyond simple consumption, they strive to make environmentally responsible choices throughout the entire purchasing journey. As a result, sustainability is no longer a trend — it has become a way of life. Brands are working to communicate their messages effectively while fully embracing and reflecting these eco-conscious values.

Launched this year, Samsung Electronics’ Color E-Paper (EMDX model) is a next-generation signage solution that significantly reduces power consumption in digital content advertising. NONO SHOP, a zero-waste store and café in Seoul’s Itaewon neighborhood, has introduced Color E-Paper displays into its space — taking a proactive step toward more sustainable operations.

▲ Julian Quintart, founder and owner of NONO SHOP

Samsung Newsroom visited NONO SHOP to explore how the space has become even more eco-conscious with the integration of Color E-Paper.

Less Waste, More Flexibility

NONO SHOP is a zero-waste store and vegan café offering plant-based beverages, desserts and groceries, along with a refill station to reduce single-use packaging. The shop promotes sustainability through customer engagement programs such as recycling campaigns and Climate Fresk workshops, where participants learn about climate change.

Even with ongoing efforts to minimize waste, operating a store inevitably generates some trash. One example is printed promotional materials — including seasonal menus, event posters and schedule announcements — which must be updated frequently. As a result, a significant amount of paper-based signage was being discarded each month.

▲ Quintart shares the many advantages of Color E-Paper including reduced waste, power consumption and flexible installation options.

By adopting Color E-Paper, NONO SHOP has significantly reduced waste from printed promotional materials. Images and text can be easily updated through a dedicated mobile app, eliminating the need to print and mount posters. The displays now allow for real-time content updates while delivering more impactful visuals.

“Samsung Color E-Paper doesn’t feel like a digital screen,” said Julian Quintart, a Belgian entertainer and founder of NONO SHOP. “It looks so much like real printed material that, unless you look very closely, you’d think it was just an ordinary paper poster.”

“The ability to instantly update images through the mobile app makes daily operations much more efficient,” added Juwon Shim, a manager at NONO SHOP. “It helps us save not only the resources and energy required for printing, but also time.”

▲ Color E-Paper offers simple hanging installation options thanks to its lightweight 2.5-kilogram body and slim 17.9-millimeter profile.

Sustainably Crafted From Packaging to Product

Color E-Paper is highly effective in reducing the energy typically required to operate and maintain commercial spaces. By applying ink technology to digital paper and using ambient light to render images, the displays eliminate the need for a backlight unit — the component in traditional screens that consumes energy to emit light. As a result, power consumption drops to 0.00 watts1 when content remains static. Even during updates, Color E-Paper uses significantly less energy than conventional digital signage.

“When introducing new devices into the store, it’s important to consider not just their power consumption, but also their overall environmental impact,” said Quintart. “Color E-Paper is especially appealing because its energy use is significantly lower than that of traditional digital displays.”

▲ The packaging of Color E-Paper also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability.

The product’s design and packaging also reflect a strong commitment to sustainability. Color E-Paper features 100% paper-based packaging and incorporates recycled plastic in more than half of its cover.

“Even the packaging was thoughtfully designed,” he emphasized. “All these small efforts add up and represent a meaningful step toward resource circulation.”

▲ Zoe McTackett, a regular customer at NONO SHOP, appreciates that the cover of Color E-Paper is made from recycled plastic.

Reactions to the Color E-Paper signage have been positive.

“I was really surprised to learn that recycled plastic was used in Color E-Paper,” said Zoe McTackett, a regular customer at NONO SHOP. “Knowing that Samsung values not just technology, but also the environment, makes me trust the brand even more.”

Built To Fit Anywhere

Color E-Paper effortlessly integrates into any space, preserving the aesthetic of existing interiors and resembling framed artwork. Equipped with a patent pending color imaging algorithm, the display optimizes content for enhanced visibility — delivering smooth edge rendering, seamless gradients and rich color expression for a look and feel strikingly similar to printed posters.

▲ NONO SHOP not only uses Color E-Paper for in-store displays but also uses it as versatile screens during workshops.

“Even though it’s a digital screen, it doesn’t feel too sharp — it has a natural, paper-like quality,” said McTackett. She noted how comfortable it was to view, even in bright daylight or well-lit environments, thanks to its non-reflective surface.

“I hope customers see the display not just as a digital device, but as a framed piece,” Quintart added. “Once they realize it’s actually digital paper, they focus more on the content and respond to the product more organically.”

Weighing just 2.5 kilograms with the battery and measuring only 17.9 millimeters thick, Color E-Paper features an ultra-lightweight design with exceptional installation flexibility — easily mounted on walls, ceiling rails or stands without the need for additional structures.

▲ Color E-Paper can be installed almost anywhere thanks to its ultra-lightweight and ultra-slim design.

“Depending on the setting, Color E-Paper can be used in various formats — on a stand, wall-mounted or hanging,” Shim explained. “One of its biggest advantages is that it can transform the store’s atmosphere without requiring major interior changes.”

“When mounted on a movable stand, Color E-Paper is easy to reposition and can be set up near the entrance or beside the checkout counter,” she continued. “Hanging the display with wires is especially space-efficient since it takes up virtually no space.”

Samsung’s Color E-Paper eliminates the trade-offs once associated with sustainable practices. Just as a single small action can spark meaningful change, Samsung remains committed to creating positive environmental impact — a mission now shared with NONO SHOP through Color E-Paper.

1 According to International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 62301 standards, power consumption under 0.005 watts is displayed as 0.00 watts.

Samsung Electronics today announced the global launch of its 32-inch Color E-Paper (EM32DX model), expanding its portfolio of energy-efficient digital signage solutions. Featuring advanced digital ink technology, this latest model delivers ultra-low power consumption, high visibility and a lightweight design. As such, it is a more sustainable and flexible display alternative for businesses.

“Samsung is committed to pushing the boundaries of display innovation with solutions that enhance engagement while reducing energy consumption,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung’s Color E-Paper empowers businesses with highly efficient, customizable signage solutions that combine sustainability and performance.”

Energy-Efficient Digital Signage With Vivid Color

The new 32-inch Samsung Color E-Paper operates at 0.00W1 when displaying static content. With a fully charged integrated battery, users have the ability to install and use Color E-Paper freely2 without being connected to a power source. During content updates, the display still uses significantly less energy than the conventional digital signage, which helps reduce costs.

Equipped with QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution, it leverages Samsung’s advanced color imaging algorithm to optimize color accuracy and readability. This optimization softens the edges of the image while creating smoother and more vibrant colors for an eye-catching display resembling traditional paper posters and retail promotional stands. For businesses, Color E-Paper enables a seamless transition from printed materials to enhanced digital displays.

Slim, Lightweight and Easy To Deploy

Weighing only 2.5kg3 and measuring 17.9mm thick, the display has a paper-thin design that allows for versatile placement on walls, tables and ceilings using the hanging accessories that come with it.4 With 13.9mm bezels on all sides, the display provides high usability in both landscape and portrait modes, while its VESA5 mount compatibility further expands installation options and enhances convenience for businesses. With two USB-C ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and 8GB of onboard storage, the display offers seamless integration for businesses to manage their content with ease.

Smart Content Management for Businesses

Available on Android and iOS mobile devices,6 the dedicated Samsung E-Paper app allows users easy control to directly create content, schedule display times and set up content on Color E-Paper devices. Additionally, the Samsung VXT7 (Visual eXperience Transformation) platform — which provides real-time remote control and intuitive content management of devices and effortless content creation — is now compatible with Color E-Paper. This allows for centralized device management and smooth integration with existing supported signage products. Samsung VXT also includes a feature uniquely tailored for Color E-Paper to optimize content visibility and a preview function to ensure colors are accurate before deployment.

For enterprises, Samsung VXT also supports real-time monitoring8 and centralized device management, streamlining content deployment across multiple locations. Powered by Samsung Tizen 8.0, businesses can integrate the display seamlessly into existing systems via Tizen Enterprise APIs.

Additionally, as part of Samsung’s broader commitment to sustainability, the Color E-Paper features a cover made from 55% recycled plastic material and comes in fully paper-based packaging — reflecting the brand’s efforts to reduce environmental impact.

Continued Leadership in the Global Digital Signage Market

Samsung has reaffirmed its position as the world’s leading digital signage manufacturer, holding the top spot for the 16th consecutive year since first reaching number one in 2009.9

In 2024, Samsung achieved a record market share of 34.6% in global digital signage sales by volume.10

Having entered the commercial display market with a full B2B signage in 2008, Samsung continues to make history of digital signage with consistent technological innovation, differentiated solutions, and market leadership.

Samsung started by achieving first place in global market share of digital signage in 2009. Then in 2012, Samsung opened the LCD renaissance by introducing two transparent LCD models. In 2017, the world’s first cinema LED, Onyx, was unveiled, presenting a new standard for theater screens with unbelievable picture quality and infinite contrast ratio.

Over a decade and a half of “firsts” has led to myriad breakthroughs in digital signage. The world’s first modular display “The Wall,” introduced in 2018, has freely adjustable screen size and shape, expanding the scope of digital signage to various spaces, like art museums and department stores.

As demand for immersive content increased, Samsung created a new version of “The Wall” exclusively for virtual production studios in 2023. With ultimate picture quality, it overcomes the challenges of physical on-site sets and leads to a reduction in production time and cost. The Wall for Virtual Production continues to change the landscape of the content production with a top-tier customizable solution.

Here’s a look at the footsteps of Samsung Signage, which has been solidifying its #1 position globally for 15 consecutive years2 with innovative display technology.

Samsung Electronics today announced that it has been named the number one signage manufacturer for the fifteenth consecutive year by market research firm Omdia, once again demonstrating its leadership in the global digital signage market.1

According to Omdia, in 2023 Samsung not only led the global signage market with a 33% market share, but also sold over 2 million units — a record-breaking number for the company.2

“Achieving first place in the global display signage market for 15 consecutive years reflects our commitment to innovation and our ability to adapt to evolving market conditions and the needs of our customers,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue to provide the highest value to our customers by offering specialized devices, solutions and services that address their diverse needs.”

Samsung Electronics is regularly introducing differentiated signage products that meet various business environment needs.

The Wall, the world’s first modular display with micro LED technology. Thanks to its modular format, The Wall allows customers to adjust the sign’s size, ratio and shape based on preference and use case.

Smart Signage, which provides an excellent sense of immersion with its ultra-slim profile and uniform bezel design.

Outdoor Signage tailored for sports, landmark markets, and electric vehicle charging stations. The screens in the Outdoor Signage portfolio are designed for clear visibility in any weather environment.

Samsung Interactive Display, an e-board optimized for the education market that puts educational tools at the fingertips of educators and students.

The expansion of The Wall lineup is a clear indication of Samsung’s innovations and leading technology. Products like The Wall All-in-One and The Wall for Virtual Production were chosen by customers for their exceptional convenience and unique use cases, while The Wall has been selected as the display of choice for luxury hotels like Atlantis The Royal in Dubai and Hilton Waikiki Beach in Hawaii.

Samsung’s leadership in the digital signage industry can be attributed to the company’s commitment to product and service innovation. For example, the introduction of the world’s first transparent Micro LED display in January was noted by industry experts as the next generation of commercial display, earning accolades such as “Most Mind-Blowing LED” and “Best Transparent Display” from the North American AV news outlet, rAVe.

The recent introduction of the Samsung Visual eXperience Transformation (VXT) platform further demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to display innovation. This cloud-native platform combines content and remote signage operations on a single, secure platform, offering services and solutions that go beyond just hardware while ensuring seamless operation and management for users.

Looking ahead, the global display signage market is poised for rapid growth, with an expected annual increase of 8% leading to a projected market size of $24.6 billion by 2027, up from $14 billion in 2020.3

Unveiled for the first time at the Mets’ What’s New at Citi Field event on March 23, attendees had a sneak peek of what fans can expect for the upcoming season. The scoreboard is the highlight of the multiple digital display upgrades throughout the entire stadium, providing fans with a state-of-the-art display experience. Even as fans enjoy the new experienced introduced throughout the ballpark, the new scoreboard ensures that they won’t miss a moment of the action taking place on the field.

“As an emerging New York landmark, Citi Field continues to set itself apart with the integration of cutting-edge display technology that enhances the in-stadium experience for fans,” said James Fishler, Senior Vice President, Display and Home Entertainment Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung is a proud partner of the Mets and with the installment of the first-of-its-kind, double-sided LED display, we are excited to help the franchise reach the next level of technology innovation in professional sports.”

New Centerfield Scoreboard Brings Citi Field to Life

Since forming its partnership in 2021, Samsung has worked with the Mets to transform Citi Field into the most technologically advanced, professional ballpark. The multi-year digital transformation included the deployment of over 1,300 LFD displays and several new Outdoor LED displays last year, totaling over 15 million pixels. The second phase of installments, which will be fully operational by opening day on April 6, will feature several new outfield displays, including the new centerfield scoreboard, increasing the total pixel count in Citi Field to 40 million.

Samsung Electronics is showcasing the future of sustainable digital signage at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2023 in Barcelona, with new technologies and eco-conscious efforts guided by the company’s new environmental strategy.

“We are committed to ensuring everyday sustainability throughout our signage portfolio and finding meaningful ways to minimize our environmental impact as part of our journey toward a more circular economy,” said Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “We are excited to showcase our vision for how smart signage can help enable everyday sustainability while unlocking incredible new opportunities for businesses at ISE.”

Building Technologies That Contribute to Eco-Conscious Digital Signage

At ISE this year, Samsung will highlight the company’s sustainability initiatives based on its new environmental strategy announced in September 2022. Pre-registered visitors will be able to see Samsung’s environmental vision come to life, with the sustainability zone at the booth showcasing the eco-conscious practices applied to digital signage products. These practices are based on the five stages of the product lifecycle — sourcing, production, distribution, using and recycling.

Samsung’s 2023 smart signage products (QHC, QMC, QBC) are approximately 40% slimmer than previous models at 28.5mm thickness. Through this, the number of shipping containers required for logistics after production can be reduced by more than 20%1 compared to the previous model. In addition, smart signage products support automatic screen brightness adjustment by adopting an illuminance sensor which reacts to surrounding light conditions, helping users manage their power consumption automatically. Plus, the resin used for the rear covers contains 10% of Post-Consumer Materials (PCM).

▲ The Remote Management function will enable users to simply monitor the number of connected devices and easily manage different devices, as well as remotely control settings such as power ON/OFF and screen brightness.

Samsung’s cloud-based MagicINFO solution enhances Remote Management and helps to manage multiple signage displays and a variety of content efficiently. The Remote Management function will enable users to simply monitor the number of connected devices, their types and errors, and easily manage different devices, as well as remotely control settings such as screen brightness. Plus, this solution will offer other features, including device health diagnostics, informing users of issues related to cable connection, device temperature and network disruption.

At ISE 2023, Samsung will also be running a separate solution seminar zone, introducing visitors to the company’s new and differentiated technologies. Its soon-to-be-announced cloud signage platform will offer a wide range of energy-saving solutions that empower users to manage and reduce their energy usage. New solutions include real-time power consumption monitoring, timed luminance scheduling, remote brightness adjustment and automatic device management. This comprehensive platform will integrate and connect LCD signage, LED signage and B2B TVs to provide a seamless user experience.

Introducing New 2023 Outdoor Signage — Large LED Screens and Small-Sized Displays Unveiled

Samsung is announcing new signage products at ISE 2023. Firstly, the company will release its 2023 outdoor LED signage (Model Name: XHB series), built for the sports industry and spectacular landmark locations.

The XHB series is available in four models: P6 (6mm pixel pitch), P8, P10 and P16, all of which produce light at an astonishing peak brightness of 8,000 nits, exceptionally clear and stunning picture quality — even when in direct sunlight. Furthermore, the standardized module design of the XHB guarantees flexible design and installation, including Concave (maximum of 2500R curvature), Convex, S shape, Fascia and 90 °L type.

With a design twice as thin as the previous model, the XHB series can be installed in a seamless way, with the installation time also reduced by more than half for improved convenience. Furthermore, improved energy efficiency means the XHB reduces power consumption by over 15% compared to its predecessor and can reduce approximately 2,492 tons of CO2 emissions every year, which is equivalent to the amount of CO2 sequestered by about 290,000 30-year-old pine trees in one year.2

The XHB series will be available for ordering starting from ISE 2023, with some of the first models already being installed as electronic scoreboards at the home stadiums of globally recognized US Baseball teams, the New York Mets and The World Champion Houston Astros ahead of the 2023 season.

Finally, Samsung is introducing a small-sized, 24-inch outdoor signage display (Model Name: OH24B) to cater to the electric vehicle (EV) charger market. As demand for EVs continues to rise, it is important to provide solutions that enable a more connected, enjoyable charging experience while providing upselling opportunities for businesses and retailers.

The outdoor signage excels in both durability and outdoor visibility across a wide range of diverse conditions. This high resilience and versatility are provided by peak brightness of 1,500 nits and a slim, metal design, as well as water, dust and liquid resistance (IP66, Ingress Protection) and IK-10 Level glass protection. A high temperature, rigid liquid crystal panel is also applied to provide further durability even under strong sunlight. In addition, the display offers removable Wi-Fi/Bluetooth accessories, which can optimize the receiving rate based on installation conditions. Finally, the small signage boasts unparalleled energy efficiency with the industry’s lowest power consumption3 (a maximum of 90W) above 20-inches, perfect for an EV charging station which requires 24/7 operation and information delivery.

New Kiosk and Flip Pro’s Exclusive Solution Deliver Enhanced Device Compatibility

Samsung is also announcing the latest model, “Samsung Kiosk” Windows version (Model Name: KMC-W). In addition to the existing model operating Tizen (OS), “Samsung Kiosk” Windows version is compatible with Windows 10 IoT Enterprise OS to expand customer choices.

This new Kiosk adopts Intel’s 11th generation Intel Core Processor. It is equipped with 8GB DRAM and 256GB SSD, providing fast processing and ample storage space to meet the fast-evolving industry demands beyond healthcare, hospitality and retail.

The company will introduce a new solution, exclusive for the “Samsung Flip,” meeting the demand of both educators and businesses to be connected to various devices simultaneously. It enables users to bring the content or applications in their PC to the Flip by connecting a PC with the Flip. Especially, users can write over content brought from their PC on the screen of Flip and share in real-time. The new solution enhances usability for remote work and provides a seamless work environment by allowing users to optimize and utilize the screen to connect with other device screens.

Samsung Electronics has equipped the new flagship attraction, “Chasseurs de Tornades” (Tornado Hunters), at the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers, France, with innovative technology to bring an immersive and lifelike experience to guests. Samsung’s collaboration with Futuroscope Management and Development (FMD) helped bring the breathtaking attraction to life, making the signage installed by Samsung the largest 360-degree circular LED screen in Europe.

The new attraction, Chasseurs de Tornades, is the result of four years of diligent work between the FMD team and Samsung, an industry leader in the global signage market for the past 13 consecutive years.1 The collaboration has produced a completely immersive audience experience through the use of cutting-edge audiovisual technology.

The concept behind the attraction is an exciting adventure where viewers confront nature’s most extreme elements, plunging them into an immersive whirlwind experience created by Samsung. Based on the story of Chasseurs de Tornades, visitors follow a team of researchers in their all-terrain vehicle in pursuit of tornadoes.

Sitting atop a dynamic rotating platform, guests come face-to-face with the intensity of a powerful tornado on the largest circular LED wall in Europe. The enormous LED wall from Samsung measures 17 meters in diameter by eight meters high with a total surface area of 420 square meters, making it the largest LED screen of this type in an amusement park that Samsung has installed in the world.

▲ Behind the seats are removable LED walls, allowing actors to be able to perform in the open space.

Collectively, it is made up of 800 LED cabinets from the Samsung Indoor IFR series and offers 21K resolution for hyper realistic immersion. Thanks to HDR LED technology, scenes are optimized for high contrast to display detailed, lifelike images. The maximum peak light output is 2,400 nits, and the static contrast rate is 12,000:1, allowing for premium picture quality.

The attraction itself is a 120-seat dynamic motion theatre surrounded by the 360-degree LED screen. Four parts of the screen move down to let the audience come in and out, as well as see two live stage shows through the sliding doors. The flexible design properties of the IFR solution make it suitable for any location, perfectly aligning with the circular dimensions needed for this unique attraction. Additionally, the IFR solution provides double the power supply, giving the attraction greater reliability.

▲ The view from the technical room, showing the attraction’s platform supported by three axes that help it lift, rotate 360⁰ and move in three different directions at the same time.

A highlight of the attraction is the removable LED walls where actors perform — a part of the attraction that Samsung was selected to outfit with an LED screen made up of 105 cabinets. To create a truly immersive experience for guests from the moment they enter the attraction, Samsung equipped the “pre-show” area with 20 LED cabinets to create an optical theater known as a “hologram.”

“The circular screen we installed at Futuroscope is the largest LED project we have completed,” said Jeremy Taghon, Head of CE B2B Division at Samsung Electronics France. “I am impressed by and thankful for the hard work and partnership between FMD and Samsung that brought this important technological milestone to life.”

“The contrast ratio, the image, the sharpness, it’s just incredible. An attraction like this is made to last at least 15 years, and LED is the only technology that’s durable enough,” said Yannis Marchet, Development and Projects Director at FMD. “When management agreed we could work with Samsung, everything went smoothly.”

The attraction earned several international awards in 2022, including “Best New Ride” at the European Star Awards and “Best Product Innovation” as well as “Best Dark Ride or Media-based Experience” at the ParkWorld Excellence Awards. Most recently, it won “Outstanding Achievement” from the Themed Entertainment Association, an accolade considered to be the prize for the best attraction in the world.

By installing the largest 360-degree circular LED signage in Europe, Samsung has enabled FMD to wow Futuroscope guests with a mesmerizing audiovisual experience unlike any other.

Samsung Electronics and the Houston Astros today announced they will digitally enhance Minute Maid Park with display technology designed to further elevate the fan experience. Samsung, a leader in digital signage innovation, will deliver some of the highest definition, large-scale displays in the game, so fans can expect to be immersed in the action like never before. The multi-year deal will see new outdoor LED technology both in the infield and outfield in time for the 2023 season, including a brand-new main scoreboard with dynamic content.

“Technology continues to take the in-person fan experience at live entertainment and sporting events to incredible new heights,” said Harry Patz, Jr., Senior Vice President and General Manager of Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Partnering with the World Champion Houston Astros provides Samsung with another opportunity to showcase how the company’s world-class display technology improves the ways venues can create excitement amongst fans and drive business with stunning content display, dynamic entertainment, real-time information and more.”

Following their championship-winning season, the Houston Astros will return to the ballpark in 2023 with upgraded displays and solutions by Samsung — including the main outfield display, ribbon boards, center field mezzanine and more. Installation at Minute Maid Park started in November 2022, with scheduled completion by Opening Day 2023, so fans can enjoy the top-of-the-line technology built for interactivity and engagement.

Samsung is a dominant digital solutions provider within the sports industry, enhancing venues across the country through its technology, such as video walls, interactive displays and outdoor and indoor LEDs. The partnership’s goal is for the fan experience at Minute Maid Park to be taken to the next level through these digital enhancements.

“We are excited to add Samsung as a corporate partner and to integrate their state-of-the-art technology into our ballpark,” said Marcel Braithwaite, SVP, Business Operations, Houston Astros. “As we are always looking for ways to improve our fan experience at Minute Maid Park, this new scoreboard, the ribbon boards and other digital enhancements are good examples of our continuous focus on our fans.”

Minute Maid Park joins an all-star lineup of arenas and stadiums used for professional teams that have partnered with Samsung to transform technology and enhance the fan experience.
Samsung Electronics recently completed the installation of an upgraded display solution in the Swiss Life Arena, making it the most modern ice hockey arena in Switzerland. The display solution modernizes the space by providing revamped hardware and software as well as technical support for the ZSC Lions and includes the largest indoor LED cube in Europe. The upgrades were made possible by Samsung’s innovative technology and have enabled the Swiss Life Arena to meet National Hockey League (NHL) standards, a level typically only achieved by North American arenas.

▲ The LED cube installed at the Swiss Life Arena is the largest indoor LED cube in Europe.

As an official display technology partner of the Swiss Life Arena, Samsung outfitted the arena with a wide range of signage products and technical solutions to enhance the customer experience and improve operational efficiency.

“We are proud to present Samsung’s display technology after working with our AV Solution Partner Bild+Ton and the ZSC Lions to equip what is now the most modern ice hockey arena in Switzerland, delivering a world class fan experience,” said Daniel Périsset, Head of CE IT Team, Display and Memory at Samsung Electronics Switzerland. “The unparalleled quality of the solutions will help us deliver the best experiences in the rapidly evolving sports entertainment industry.”

Ground-Breaking Display Solutions To Wow Fans

Samsung installed 669 square meters of LED signage inside the arena, totalling over 18 million LEDs. From players on the side lines to fans in the stands, Samsung’s vibrant display technology allows everyone in the arena to be immersed in the action thanks to brilliant clarity and consistent color presentation. The advanced LED technology provides lifelike picture quality by optimizing brightness levels while eliminating shine and visual inconsistencies.

The central LED Cube display — which measures 12(w)x12(d)x8(h) meters — is the principal element of the fan experience with 416m² of the LED signages. Regardless of where fans sit in the arena’s 12,000 seats, they will be able to enjoy the stunning video display. Designed with premium picture quality and vibrant colors, the Cube will captivate audiences and set the mood using ambient light and sound. During the process of constructing the massive Cube, the teams collaborated to overcome the challenges of keeping the total weight as low as possible and managing the sheer scale of the installation.

▲ The large LED cube and ribbon boards surrounding the entire arena present high-definition picture quality along with ambient lighting and sound.

“You need a reason for fans to come back to the stadium, and we can do so many things now to communicate during the game with the fans. It’s not only the Cube — it’s the screens; it’s the signage,” said Bruno Vollmer, Chief Operating Officer of the ZSC Lions. “The support from Samsung was amazing and we can be proud, all of us, for what we have done.”

To create a fluid and dynamic experience for guests, the Samsung displays include various ribbon boards — long and thin LED screens mounted on the face of balconies — and audio equipment. Thanks to the optimal visibility and low reflection technology of the ribbon boards, fans will not miss any action on or off the field — even in constantly changing lighting conditions.

The content management across all signage displays is supported by MagicINFO 9, the cloud-based solution for the most comprehensive signage offering 24/7 technical support. Managing on-screen content is made simple using Samsung’s powerful MagicINFO 9 solution, which supports content, device and data management across all the displays throughout the entire arena. MagicINFO 9 also allows users to manage content remotely and securely, meaning updates can be made quickly to reflect match details, advertising, or important customer information.

A Connected Experience Throughout The Arena

By delivering a complete display solution, Samsung has helped to enhance every moment of the audience experience at the arena, accompanying visitors from the minute they arrive until they depart. With an upgraded Players Club and a connected customer experience from the concourse to the Business Club, Sports Club and Press Room, fans can explore the arena while staying informed about the latest game updates.

▲ Signage and displays integrated throughout the arena by Samsung allow visitors to explore the venue while not missing out on any of the game action.

To ensure the technology was incorporated into every corner of the arena, Samsung installed 240 strategically located displays across the stadium. The crystal-clear picture quality of Samsung’s smart signage solutions, including the Q-series signage, are on display in the sports bar and around the concourse. Specifically, the ultra-high definition 4K resolution of the QMR series keeps audiences engaged in the action while enjoying food and beverages in the sports bar. In the auditorium, guests will be mesmerized by The Wall (IWA), a massive and awe-inspiring screen offering a vivid visual display. Furthermore, Samsung B2B monitors were selected for the ZSC Lions’ offices due to their high-resolution picture quality and productivity features.

Adrian Wangeler, Chief Executive Officer, Bild+Ton, shared, “Samsung always responds quickly and easily. Working directly with the manufacturer has the advantage of being able to fall back on the specialists and developers.”

As an industry leader in the global signage market for the past 13 consecutive years,1 Samsung stands out in the sports entertainment industries. Following Samsung’s visual display milestones equipping Citi Field and SoFi Stadium, fans can expect an extraordinary experience at Swiss Life Arena — powered by the latest innovations from Samsung.

Samsung Electronics announced that the company has implemented new environmentally sustainable processes and initiatives, including low-impact product manufacturing practices and resource acquisition. These new changes join the company’s existing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint across its product portfolio.

As part of Samsung’s “Together for Tomorrow” vision, the company has applied recycled materials in its select monitor and digital signage products to minimize resource waste. Samsung is now using more recycled materials in its monitor and digital signage products, including the rear cover of its monitors and digital signage to increase resource circularity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Digital signage solutions including the 2022 Smart Signage also received certified energy efficiency grades that rise to new industry standards. Samsung also has incorporated eco-conscious packaging featuring recycled materials in all signage products since 2021.

To improve both resource and energy efficiency, Samsung is using a SoC (System on Chip) solution that, when applied to the monitors and signage, allows content to be displayed without any additional devices, saving both waste and energy. Plus, Samsung has extended its product lifespan with enhanced durability to further minimize waste.

In recognition of its efforts for product efficiency, Samsung has earned an ENERGY STAR certification,1 in addition to an EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) certification for its energy efficiency improvements and recycled plastic use in its 2022 Smart Signage lineup (QHB, QMB, QBB).

Samsung was also the first in its industry to achieve the reducing CO2 label, certified by the Carbon Trust, for its LCD Signage lineup (LH55QHB), LED signage (LH012IWA) and Business Monitor (LS34A65). In addition, Samsung has developed and applied a new material, made with repurposed ocean-bound plastics, to the 2022 high resolution monitor S8 to reduce marine waste.

In recognition of its global 2022 sustainability initiative, which strives to incorporate environmental sustainability into everything it does, Samsung has been announced as the winner of ‘Sustainability Innovation of the Year’ at the AV News Awards on May 10.

“We are committed to ensuring everyday sustainability throughout our signage portfolio and playing a major role in reimagining a better planet,” said Hyesung Ha, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “As we are grateful for the recognition of our efforts, we plan to make each step count while we collectively change production practices for a sustainable future.”

Samsung Electronics recently unveiled the Infinity Screen by Samsung, a brand new, center-hung videoboard at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, where the 56th US professional football championship will be held this month. The largest videoboard ever created for sports, the Infinity Screen will greet fans as they enter the stadium with its dual-sided, one-of-a-kind design and provide a state-of-the-art way to experience the Big Game.

Enhancing Experiences With Next-Level Big Screen Technologies

Positioned 122 feet above the playing field, the 70,000 square-foot oval display features approximately 80 million pixels to enhance the in-stadium fan experience. Teams on the sidelines and fans in the crowd alike are able to watch 4K instant replays, up-close game action, game stats, interactive updates and more.

Samsung’s advanced technology is bolstered by the largest graphics control system in the history of sports. Each LED panel can be uniquely or congruently programmed with statistics, live and animated content — and its unique size and shape make it wider than the field of play.

Delivering the best viewing angles for fans was one of Samsung’s highest priorities. By using the measurements from architectural drawings of the stadium and simulating viewing angles on a test screen, Samsung designed the Infinity Screen to ensure that every seat in the stadium offers a great view of the videoboard. The display is also equipped with a state-of-the-art audio system with more than 260 individual JBL by Harman speakers embedded into its frame — equal to 1,500 home theater systems.

Immersive Entertainment for Every Fan

To offer fans and guests a consistently dynamic experience, Samsung also outfitted the stadium with other innovative solutions, including more than 2,600 large format displays, ribbon boards – long, thin LED screens mounted on the face of balconies — and audio equipment. No matter where fans are in the stadium, they won’t miss the action on or off the field.

Every large format display at SoFi Stadium utilizes HDR10+, making the picture quality life-like and full of vibrant colors, sharper contrasts and crisper details. The same can be said for any fan who watches the game directly from a Samsung TV or compatible device at home. Thanks to HDR10+ technology, viewers can also enjoy the big game from the comfort of their couch, while still feeling that they’re at the stadium itself.

The New York Mets announced Samsung Electronics America as the ballpark’s official display and technology solutions partner, signing a multi-year deal to deliver a complete transformation of the famous ballpark’s screens to create an interactive fan experience like never before. Samsung – a leader in Digital Signage innovation – will bring the Mets vision of creating a one-of-a-kind ballpark to life with its unique portfolio of displays, content management platform and services.

“Baseball is one of America’s great historical pastimes and thanks to cutting-edge display- and data-driven innovation, we are ushering in a new, exciting era that transforms the ballpark experience and brings fans into the game like never before,” said Harry Patz Jr., Senior Vice President and General Manager, Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Technology is central to the way fans enjoy sports, and we are thrilled to bring Samsung’s full display portfolio, solutions and expertise to this new era of fandom.”

From the moment they arrive on property to the final out, fans will experience gameday in a whole new way. Among the enhancements for 2022 that are expected include new ribbon boards and more than 1,300 LCD screens throughout the ballpark to lead fans to the shortest lines and ensure they don’t miss a single pitch. A new larger and enhanced centerfield scoreboard will be installed for fans’ enjoyment for the 2023 season at Citi Field.

“We are excited and proud to partner with such a worldwide leader and iconic brand as Samsung,” said Mets Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer Jeff Deline. “Like Samsung, the Mets have a very loyal and passionate fan base, and the implementation of this state-of-the-art technology is going to provide an enhanced experience and environment for millions of fans that come to Citi Field for many years.”

IMMERSIVE DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY & SOLUTIONS

As the complete design and build partner for the Citi Field project, Samsung will deploy the full breadth of its display portfolio and technology solutions throughout the ballpark to create the first connected venue in Major League Baseball.

“Samsung has a rich tradition of innovation and purpose-built technology. Over a two-year period, we’ll transform a once static signage environment to an all-digital experience,” said Mark Quiroz, Vice President Product Marketing, Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “By seamlessly weaving display technology and sensors into the existing environment, Samsung will create a gateway for connectivity at Citi Field for both the operators and the fans.”

“Our partnership with Samsung is a significant investment from our owner Steve Cohen to bring the most state-of-the-art technology to the ballpark and provide our fans an even better experience at Citi Field,” said Mets Chief Technology Officer Mark Brubaker. “The quality of these upgrades and integration into the daily experience for our fans make Citi Field an industry leader when it comes to the most innovative technological displays.”

WHAT FANS CAN EXPECT

Built for the future, the ballpark upgrade – one of the largest single projects in all professional sports – is slated to take place over the span of two years and will make Citi Field the most technologically advanced ballpark in the major leagues. When complete, Citi Field will feature:

More than 1,300 LCD screens and 4,000 square feet of direct view LED screens in public spaces, enhancing the fan experience at every touch point and even alerting them when their team merchandise is ready for pick up

A ballpark-wide IPTV system that will carry nearly 100 channels of sports and entertainment content

Double the number of slow-motion replay systems and three times as many cameras for increased game coverage

An enhanced and fully upgraded scoreboard to display the latest LED technology and handle 4K video

An iconic landmark and historic symbol of New York City, Citi Field will welcome fans to experience one of America’s favorite pastimes like never before through Samsung innovations. The multi-year technology upgrade is scheduled to begin in 2022.

The evolution of digital signage – a type of display technology that’s used to deliver key information in an intuitive manner – has been remarkable. Today, digital signage enriches our daily lives with eye-catching content in all kinds of spaces, including plazas, shopping malls, cafes and more.

By utilizing digital signage as a media art platform, Samsung Electronics has been paving the way for the expansion of the technology’s role. Today, the company is the world’s No. 1 digital signage manufacturer, having developed products that support a wide range of consumer experiences in locations across the globe.

In celebration of Samsung’s participation in InfoComm 2021 – North America’s largest audiovisual industry event, set to take place in Orlando, Florida from October 27–29 – let’s take a look at the stories behind some of Samsung’s most stunning digital signage.

Digital Signage’s Expanding Role and Growing Market

Both the global digital signage market’s size and the speed of its growth have been impressive by any measure. According to Omdia, a leading market research firm, the global signage market is expected to reach a whopping $19.9 billion by 2023. With a 33 percent1 market share by volume as of the first half of this year, Samsung maintains a firm grip on the No. 1 position in the LCD smart signage market.

In the era of social distancing, the digital signage market has seen rapid growth. This is because digital signage is being utilized in all types of locations, including everything from kiosks that offer integrated solutions for orders and payments, to drive-throughs that allow customers to view menus and order food from the comfort of their car. As people’s lifestyles have begun to change, companies have been placing greater emphasis on digital communication. As such, the role of digital signage has expanded to encompass various functions that complement such lifestyle changes.

Captivating Crowds From New York to Helsinki

Whether it’s depicting an enormous waterfall in the middle of New York’s Times Square, or crashing waves in downtown Seoul, Samsung’s vivid and scalable outdoor signage instantly transforms the vibe of any space.

Samsung SMART LED Signage is installed on the side of the One Times Square building in New York’s Times Square. Roughly 110 meters tall and measuring more than 1,081 square meters in all, the signage, which boasts a tight LED pixel pitch and 9,000 nits of brightness, vividly displays a work of art known as “Waterfall-NYC (2021)”. The digital artwork depicts cool water cascading from an enormous waterfall.

Samsung SMART LED Signage measuring 1,620 square meters (four times the size of a basketball court) is installed on the exterior of COEX’s SM Town in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The signage makes full use of its unique L-shaped design to depict a strikingly realistic three-dimensional wave. The installation is the result of a partnership with the Seoul-based design company d’strict, which also created “WAVE”, the work of art that is on display.

Like the signage pictured above, the massive LED screen at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles captivates crowds with exciting visuals. Stadiums have always been places that are full of exciting sights and sounds, where crowds of people gather to cheer on their favorite teams. Now, visitors to one of the premier stadiums in the NFL can enjoy an unforgettable game experience made possible by Samsung signage.

The 360-degree, dual-sided curved LED screen that hangs above the field at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California measures 6,500 square meters in all, making it the single largest screen in the world. It is also the first stadium display to feature 4K picture quality, offering fans a vivid viewing experience from anywhere in the stadium. Approximately 9,100 square meters of Samsung LED signage has been installed on the stadium’s roof and around its exits.

Whereas large outdoor signage captivates audiences in open spaces, indoor signage can help heighten individuals’ excitement in a variety of settings, including when traveling.

Travelers from around the world may experience that excitement when encountering the S-shaped wall of Samsung SMART LED Signage in Finland’s Helsinki Airport. Meanwhile, the curved signage installed on the ceiling of MSC Cruises’ cruise ship, the MSC Grandiosa, enhances passengers’ experience with beautiful works of art.

A total of 167 square meters of Samsung SMART LED Signage is installed in Finland’s Helsinki Airport. The S-shaped media wall features a 6000R curvature that emphasizes the beauty of waves. Onlookers can enjoy a wide range of natural sights curated by Finland’s tourism office, including picturesque snowy scenes and the awe-inspiring Northern Lights.

Enhancing the Atmosphere of Any Space

It’s important to select signage that suits the characteristics of a particular space. This is especially true for large complexes and resorts, including shopping malls and hotels, which tend to feature a wide range of colors.

Drawing from its wide-ranging product portfolio, Samsung delivered a customized indoor LED signage solution to Jeju Island’s Jeju Dream Tower in Korea. A large, circular media wall was installed in the tower’s second floor lobby to create the impression that guests are being transported to a whole new world. In the hotel rooms, meanwhile, TVs and smart room solutions have been provided to help travelers relax and to amplify the hotel’s premium experience.

It’s important for indoor signage to present information with consistent brightness and colors. For semi-outdoor signage, which is displayed in places such as retail display windows and outdoor drive-throughs, the key is to display information clearly, even under bright sunlight.

Last year, Samsung installed semi-outdoor signage in more than 1,300 drive-throughs for the popular Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons. The signage features IP56-certified durability, which enables it to withstand Canada’s volatile weather conditions, as well as excellent visibility in bright light and an ultra-slim, 85mm design. By the end of this year, Samsung plans to continue expanding Canada’s largest semi-outdoor digital signage deployment yet by installing screens at 2,600 Tim Hortons drive-through locations.

In the U.S., drive-through sales at Smoothie King franchises have jumped from 70 to 90 percent during the pandemic. According to the company, part of the reason for this increase boils down to better business solutions enabled through signage. The pandemic has resulted in fewer one-on-one interactions with customers, making effective drive-through menu boards essential for revenue.

Smoothie King required a digitized business solution that would allow restaurant managers to make menu changes and localize promotions without having to wait to contact the franchise’s head office. Samsung’s semi-outdoor signage allowed them to innovate their operations by combining updated indoor and outdoor digital signage with remote management capabilities. This paved the way for more sales while demonstrating just how versatile Samsung signage has become.

(Clockwise from top left) Semi-outdoor signage at Tim Hortons in Canada, Starbucks’ QSR drive-through in Korea, McDonald’s ‘MacAuto’ QSR drive-through in Russia, and a Seven Eleven store in Taiwan.

Samsung signage is also becoming a common sight at subway stations, where displays relay information such as arrival times, transfer gates and more. Samsung has installed a total of 4,218 signage screens in 90 subway stations in Seoul, and has replaced many analog maps with 49 and 65-inch touchscreen displays.

The signage features IP5X-certified durability to withstand use in crowded subway stations, as well as an anti-reflective coating that enhances visibility. The displays allow subway passengers to enjoy a smarter commuting experience by presenting them with the information they need quickly and on a high-resolution screen.

Leading a New Era of Digital Signage Innovation

Samsung plans to strengthen its position as the world’s No. 1 signage manufacturer by advancing innovative technologies such as virtual production solutions. The company will utilize its state-of-the-art Micro LED, The Wall, to create an immersive and seemingly endless backdrop for capturing content. Because The Wall is modular, it can be easily installed in a variety of spaces. The virtual production studio solution will enable creators to connect LED displays to cameras to create richly detailed virtual settings in real time.

The retail environment is highly competitive, with retailers constantly looking for better and more efficient ways to catch the eyes of potential customers. Amid this climate, the benefits of digital displays are well-established, with their impact seen across retail providers from shopping malls to quick service restaurants (QSRs). In the restaurant sphere in particular, digital displays have been found to deliver improved visibility and an elevated overall brand experience compared to analog displays.

But digital signage is good for more than just the consumer. The technology has also been shown to reduce costs for businesses. Below, we explore the wide-reaching benefits of going digital.

Putting the Benefits Into Numbers

When we compare using analog and digital menu boards in restaurants, it becomes clear that utilizing Samsung SMART Signage provides a significant advantage over the use of static lightbox menus. While installing digital signage causes businesses to initially incur slightly higher upfront costs, it has been shown that those businesses receive a higher return on investment within two years of installation. Five years on from the installation of digital signage businesses stand to save around USD10,000 per store according to Samsung’s ‘Improving ROI with digital menu boards’ white paper.

In Samsung’s whitepaper, it is shown that if a QSR brand with 250 stores nationwide were to utilize static signage, it would require a total of six lightbox-style analog menu boards at each location, in addition to six printed menu boards. These boards typically need to be replaced every two months, while the fluorescent lamps for lightboxes and electrical ballasts must be replaced every 18 months. In addition to the annual maintenance fee this all adds up to a considerable cumulative cost. However, the use of digital menu boards immediately eliminates maintenance costs as well as the expenses related to creating new printouts for static menu boards.

Digital Signage for Versatility

But the savings are only the beginning, with Samsung SMART Signage able to deliver a variety of content from images to dynamic videos, all in vivid, vibrant colors. SMART Signage is also engineered to operate 24/7, providing night and day visibility that is unmatched by analog displays and ensuring that customers are deeply engaged with content. These stellar displays are supported by Samsung’s powerful MagicINFO content management solution, which enables users to conveniently manage all of their visual signage from one centralized location. This increased flexibility allows businesses to quickly and conveniently update promotions, offerings and messages to reflect consumer trends and important events, alleviating the slowdowns and missed sales opportunities brought about by businesses having to have their static assets made and delivered.

As outlined above, while the initial installation cost for digital signage is slightly higher, it has been shown that businesses that upgrade from analog to digital signage save around USD 10,000 per store after five years. For a business that operates 250 stores, this equates to an estimated USD 2.5 million in savings from using digital menu boards. And that is before the benefits from potential increases in sales and improved customer experiences are taken into account.

Beyond the Money

But the benefits of digital signage go far beyond just savings and better-looking menus. Digital displays equip a business to evolve and create opportunities that just aren’t possible with analog alternatives. Consumers are constantly looking for the most up-to-date information and best promotions, and the ability of digital menu boards to be updated in real-time to reflect demand, trends and unexpected events allows businesses to act quickly and efficiently.

What’s more, the time required to update menus and other forms of content is drastically reduced with SMART Signage. The time between starting design planning for content and actually seeing it displayed to customers can realistically be as short as two weeks with digital signage, while simpler modifications such as updating product information or complying with new calorie count posting requirements can be made in as little as two hours. Best of all, once these changes are finalized they can be distributed across the entire signage network instantaneously.

This dynamic, in-the-moment approach provides more engaging experiences for customers and drives both satisfaction and sales. In QSRs in particular, purchasing decisions are often made on the spot. Thus, customers in this environment must be equipped with the most up-to-date and accurate information to ensure that they make purchasing decisions that they are happy with. Digital signage allows them to do just this.

Samsung SMART Signage installed at McDonald’s stores in Korea

The benefits of digital displays go far beyond better looking signage. SMART Signage is the most efficient and effective solution when it comes to saving on costs, introducing versatility into the signage and fostering genuine and mutually beneficial consumer relationships. As the age of information continues to progress, Samsung SMART Signage is providing the platform to ensure that the retail sphere is equipped to be a leader when it comes to consumer communications.

Today, Samsung Electronics America helps the Golden State Warriors tip off the 2019-20 NBA season with a partnership that is revitalizing sports venues. Basketball’s newest arena, Chase Center, is a world-class sports and entertainment venue providing incredible fan experiences including more than 64 LED video displays including the largest centerhung video display in the NBA.

“Samsung is committed to changing the way fans experience live events through technology,” said Harry Patz, Senior Vice President and General Manager, B2B Enterprise Display Division, Samsung Electronics America. “Our product portfolio lends itself to seamless integration in a variety of industries, including sports applications, and in this case outfitting Chase Center with our displays. We are proud to partner with the Golden State Warriors, an organization that shares the same passion and commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences to their customers.”

“A project of this size and scope doesn’t happen overnight. It took years of planning and working side-by-side with the Warriors organization to ensure that the centerhung structure and LED video displays met all of the weight and engineering requirements to deliver an amazing experience,” said Don Szczepaniak, CEO of PRISMVIEW, A Samsung Electronics Company. “From the stunning outdoor LED Video Displays in the Plaza, to the massive centerhung the Chase Center is a world-class venue. It was an exciting challenge for us. We are very proud and grateful to be a part of this cutting-edge new venue.”

Samsung LED technologies showcase a detailed and realistic picture, ensuring each fan is immersed in the action every seat. The new Warriors centerhung main videoboard adds up to a massive 9,699 square feet of active video display, making it the largest LED video display centerhung installed in a sports arena. The centerhung integrates 15 displays varying from 6.7mm pixel pitch on the main displays and upper halo ring, to 4mm pixel pitch on the underbelly displays, amassing a total of more than 26.3 million individual LEDs.

“Our fans are some of the most knowledgeable fans in sports and as we had the opportunity to build a new arena we knew our scoreboard would be key in the overall fan experience at Chase Center,” said Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts. “In addition to having the most square footage of surface LED space in the NBA, the capabilities are endless – providing fans everything they need to follow the game including rich content, expanded stat categories, the ability to show stats for every player on the team at the same time, a real-time shot chart and much more.”

To elevate the fan experience further, Samsung and the Warriors stepped outside the arena to install the first-ever full outdoor LED display in San Francisco. Fastened to the outer wall of Chase Center’s west entrance, the vibrant display provides a preview of the technology that can be experienced inside. The superior image quality of Samsung’s 10mm LED video display is second-to-none. The displays are built to withstand any environmental elements.

In addition to the ground-breaking centerhung and outdoor LED displays, Samsung LED technologies can be found throughout the venue, adding up to a noteworthy 53.6 million individual LED pixels.

InfoComm 2019 was held from June 12 to 14 in Orlando, Florida. Those attending not only received an overview of recent trends in the global display industry, but they were also able to experience the latest innovations in display technology firsthand.

During the event, Samsung introduced various usage scenarios that demonstrated how digital signage could be installed in a variety of environments, ranging from classrooms to retail and offices. Here, to wrap up the 10 Years of Signage Innovation series, we’ll take a look at exciting new possibilities for display technology – some of which are already part of our daily lives.

Three ‘Hot Spots’ at InfoComm 2019

The corner of Samsung’s InfoComm 2019 booth that showcased The Wall Luxury transformed the event space into a movie theater. A modular display based on Micro LED technology, The Wall Luxury transcends the limitations of conventional displays in terms of size, screen ratio and resolution; measures only 29.9mm thick; and features a bezel-less design that allows it to seamlessly merge into the wall and the living room.

When the screen is off, it displays media arts or virtual wallpapers that transform The Wall Luxury into an art piece. As one attendee shared, “Pixels are invisible to the eye even when seen from up close.” Attendees also expressed excitement for the impending surge in demand for luxury home cinema products.

Have you ever wished that a detailed product description would pop up in the background automatically, without requiring you to call for assistance? Samsung MagicINFO 7 is an all-in-one system that manages advertising content on digital signage so consumers can view product information right away.

A new AI-based algorithm enables the system to display the right advertisement at the right time through customization. So for example, when shopping, if you pick up a certain cosmetic product from the shelf, the system will recognize the sensor under the product and instantly display the product information (as seen in the image above). As the system is based on the big data that includes shopping patterns of store visitors and their moving routes, there will be a countless number of scenarios for the system to use.

In meetings, where opinions are shared and decisions are made, easy and efficient communication between participants is crucial. Samsung’s new Flip 65” streamlines these situations by offering users a 65-inch touchscreen with a fast response speed. Visitors who tested out the display remarked on how impressed they were by its ability to recreate the effects of brush strokes. Not only that, the product also features a No Gap Wall Mount that allows it to be easily fixed to a meeting room wall so offices can utilize their space more efficiently.

When Advanced Technologies Enter Our Lives

Such advanced display technologies will completely change many aspects of our lives. What we have only seen in science-fiction movies is gradually becoming reality. Transformations in the office, classroom and restaurants – places where people spend a lot of their time – show us how far we have come in terms of display technology advancements.

Here we see a group meeting at a global company in which two teams from the company’s San Jose and Seoul offices are video conferencing using Cisco’s Webex Room Kit.1 The display’s 4K resolution allows the participants to clearly see the letters on the screen so they can properly discuss the design.

*Sample image

Technological innovations have changed how we work. People have become more inclined to work from home or hold remote meetings, and employ other forms of work that transcend limitations in time and space to make the work process more productive. Samsung’s SMART Signage Solution reflects this trend, and is helping to create ‘smart offices’ in partnership with Cisco.

Thanks to Samsung SMART signage and Cisco’s Webex Room Kit solution, which helps meeting participants in different locations feel as if they’re in the same room, consumers will be able to create virtual meeting rooms without any hassle.

In a middle school math class, a teacher takes advantage of visual aids with complex tables and graphs using Samsung’s Flip. The display helps the teacher conduct a collaborative class, rather than a one-sided lecture, by enabling him to pull up digital textbook files to solve problems with students. Everything written on the screen during class is sent to the students via email, so they don’t have to worry about writing everything down for future reference.

*Sample image

Samsung replaced the blackboard with the introduction of the Flip in order to create a new type of learning environment. One that connects the classroom to new information in real time, and keeps students interested by helping teachers prepare a variety of class materials. This ‘live blackboard’ will help teachers foster a lively class environment that encourages students’ creativity.

For someone whose favorite lunch is a cheeseburger from the place down the street from her office, the trip to the burger joint becomes a daily routine. She’s there today too, as usual. Because she visits every day at around the same time, her favorite set automatically pops up on the kiosk when she is ready to order. When she is ready to pay for her food, the coupon stamps she gathered during the past week pop up as well, automatically applying a discount to her bill.

*Sample image

The role of digital signage in shopping will also expand to the point that it will act as an ‘AI secretary’ that customizes the shopping experience for each customer. In the past, displays were a one-way communication method that offered information to the audience. Now, they deliver customized information according to customers’ behaviors and preferences. Scenarios that cater to the needs of both customers and retailers can be shown on the display, such as an automated message announcing a 20 percent discount when a fruit stall wants to sell off excess inventory.

“We will provide more advanced forms of communication by implementing touch functionality and sensors, as well as a display content management system and analysis function,” said Kay Hwangbo, Signage Products Product Planner at Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business.

A Display that Transcends Limitations

We may not have noticed each and every change, but digital signage is now deeply immersed in our lives, connecting different parts of it together <See 10 Years of Signage Innovation: Episode ①>. For the last 10 years, Samsung Electronics has continuously pushed technological boundaries and maintained its leadership of signage innovation <See 10 Years of Signage Innovation: Episode ②>.

Going forward, Samsung will continue to lead the industry with innovative digital signage solutions. The focus will be about thinking outside of the conventional notion that signage is a one-sided advertisement that feeds information to the audience. The first step is to advance interactive communication that thoroughly analyzes customers’ interests, needs and behaviors.

“The industrial display business boasts huge growth potential,” said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business. “The industry will become a broader B2B business that covers everything from display hardware to software, solutions, consulting, content development, remastering and more.”

1 Webex Room Kit is a collaboration tool that enables remote meetings and content sharing.
