How to install and uninstall free Galaxy Gifts (for Galaxy S5)

Samsung Galaxy S5 is here and it’s here with Galaxy Gifts. We’ve been getting a lot of questions including ‘is it preloaded?’ and ‘how do I use it?’, so we put together a quick fact check regarding these FAQs. For those of you in a hurry, here’s Samsung Tomorrow’s short answer: “No, Samsung Galaxy Gifts is definitely NOT bloatware.”

Q1. What is Galaxy Gifts?

Galaxy Gifts is a content offering that includes a wide collection of premium mobile services and tools designed to enhance your mobile experience – either pre-paid or discounted. For Galaxy S5 users, this is an offer of more than $600 worth of apps and subscriptions, adding up to 16 handy apps. (It’s also available for other Galaxy users including Galaxy NotePRO and Galaxy TabPRO, but offerings may differ. Please check your Samsung Apps account for more information.)

Q2. Do the apps come pre-loaded?

No, they don’t. The apps aren’t pre-loaded in the Galaxy S5. It means that when you turn on your Galaxy S5 for the first time, you have to choose to download them. Therefore, if you prefer not to have these apps on your phone, all you have to do is… nothing. However, why wouldn’t you download cool apps that are offered for free or discounted subscriptions?

Q3. Are the apps difficult to install or uninstall?

No, it’s very easy. The apps from Galaxy Gifts, like any other apps, are all uninstall-able. In fact, it is really easy to install and uninstall apps from the Galaxy Gifts. Check out below to see how easy it is:

How to access and install Galaxy Gifts ① the widget

Once you click on the widget, you will first see a disclaimer. Once you read over it and agree, it will direct you to see the screen where the 16 apps are listed. 

Go through the list of apps, see if you like any of them, check out the deals for them, and then if you want them, all you have to do is click the ‘download’ icon (indicated as a down-pointing arrow) on the right hand side.

How to access and install Galaxy Gifts ② Samsung Apps

Open Samsung Apps, and there’s also a separate ‘Galaxy Gifts’ category for eligible users. Hit that and, well, same as the above.

In fact, you don’t even need to use the Galaxy Gifts to get the deal on the apps. It automatically recognizes the apps that are available through the Galaxy Gifts, so that you can still enjoy the deal. However, Galaxy Gifts will give you the full list of the deal, so don’t have to search for it.

How to uninstall Galaxy Gifts apps

Now, uninstalling is as easy as it gets as well, especially if you have uninstalled an app on your smartphone before. On the ‘Application’ page of your Galaxy S5, you will see an icon on the upper right side. Click on it and select ‘Uninstall app’. When it directs you to the page full of icons of app, select the app you want to delete it.

If that too hard, open the app drawer and hit the menu button and then select ‘edit’. You’ll see a small orange minus(-) sign above the apps. Hit that minus(-) sign and confirm that you mean to delete it. Umm… that’s pretty much it for uninstalling.
