It happened! The first global transmission in UHD of a football match, Live and on Multiplatform format!

Samsung had scored another goal for the football fans around the world, the first ever global transmission in UHD of a football match!

The transmission was successfully executed live and simultaneously through two platforms (Optical Fiber and Satellite) on an exclusive technological preview during the Portugal-Greece exhibition match on May 31^st

It just wasn’t the ordinary “world’s first”. This UHD transmission was 1 second faster than Full HD IPTV (normal broadcasting) and the UHD satellite set top box was 5 seconds faster. Also, encoded at 50 frames per second / 25 Mbps, with the new HEVC codec, it was simply the best image quality transmission ever.

This was a result of a thorough and precise planning and execution from MEO, the major Portuguese triple-play operator, and RTP, the Portuguese public service TV operator, and Samsung.

This exhibition game of the Portuguese and Greek National Team was broadcasted in Ultra HD by MEO via OTT (Over-The-Top), and also via satellite, with UHD quality, exclusively in MOCHE Room at MEO Arena in Lisbon. The signal was received by the prototypes of the MEO Boxes Ultra HD (Samsung UHD digital receivers) and viewed on Samsung Curved UHD TV’s.
