Organizational Structure

 

As of 2013, Samsung Electronics has established 15 regional headquarters, 54 global sales offices, 38 global production facilities and 34 global R&D centers.

 

Samsung Electronics consists of three main divisions: Consumer Electronics, IT & Mobile Communications and Device Solutions. Each division consists of several subsidiary divisions.

 

 

Business Areas

 

1. Consumer Electronics

 

Visual Display

Samsung the leads the flat panel TV market with 26.8% of the total market share. Samsung also has 36% of the market share of the 60” and larger premium TVs.

 

 

Digital Appliances

In 2013, Samsung introduced premium digital appliances such as FoodShowcase refrigerator, WW9000 washing machine, Q9000 smart air conditioner and more. From kitchen appliances to home appliances, Samsung offers a wide range of eco-friendly, premium home devices.  

 

 

Printing Solutions

With 15.2%, Samsung has the second highest market share for the A4 Laser printer. From MultiXpress X4300 series to Xpress c1810 series, Samsung has developed various types of printers for various demographics. In 2013, Samsung developed the first NFC enabled laser printers. Its business also grew 137% from last year.

 

 

Health & Medical Equipment

Last year, Samsung introduced various ultrasound equipment such as UGEO WS80A, UGEO HM70A, UGEO PT60A, and digital X-ray equipment such as XGEO GF50. Samsung medical equipment was also recognized for its superior intuitive design. For example, Samsung’s blood analyzer LABGEO PA20 has won 2 awards at the IDEA design award.

 

 

2. IT & Mobile Communications

 

Mobile Communication

Samsung leads the mobile phone market with 27.2% of the market share. Samsung is also the leader of the smartphone market with 32.3% of the total market share. More than 10 million units of both Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3, which were introduced last year, were sold by the end of 2013. This year Samsung has expanded its lineup to include wearables and tablets, once again strengthening its position as a leader in the mobile communication business.

 

 

Networks

Samsung offers one of the most advanced lineups for network equipment based on the 4G LTE technology. Samsung has successfully commercialized the LTE network equipment in USA, Japan, and Korea. And last year, Samsung has successfully implemented its technology in England, Ireland, Russia, Chile and greater European South America region. Samsung has continuously developed its technology, especially in VoLTE, LTE-A CA and more. Last Year, GSMA awarded Samsung with ‘the Best Mobile Infrastructure’ award and Telecoms.com awarded Samsung with’ the Best LTE RAN product’.

 

 

3. Device Solutions

 

Memory Business

As a leader in DRAM and NAND Flash memory, Samsung respectively garnered 39.8% and 38% of the world’s market share. Samsung has led the memory industry since 1993. From 3D V-NAND to DDR4 DRAM and SSD 840 EVO, Samsung has successfully developed and commercialized expansive types of memory technology.

 

 

System LSI, LED

Samsung leads the Smart Card IC (SIM) industry with 23% of the total market share. Samsung also has the second highest market share in the CMOS industry with 22%. Last year, Samsung  developed the industry’s first Exynos 5 with big.LITTLE architecture and HMP technology. Samsung also has developed the industry’s first ISOCELL technology, the next generation technology for image sensors. Samsung has the second highest market share in LED chips with 10.4%.
