Production begins at S1, a System LSI-dedicated 300mm wafer fabrication facility

Starting in 2003, Samsung built a long-term strategy to focus on and nurture its System LSI business. Samsung started construction on an S line facility in 2004 and finished in early 2005. In March 2005, production began at Line S1, Samsung’s first 300mm wafer fabrication facility dedicated to its logic solutions manufacturing.

Developed the world’s largest LCD panel

 

Samsung Electronics announced the development of the world’s largest LCD panel, a stunning 82” TFT-LCD, in March 2005. This full HD image quality TFT-LCD panel was developed at the company’s new production complex in Tangjeong, Korea. The facility uses glass substrates that measure 1.87m x 2.20m.  The unveiling of this recordbreaking TFT-LCD showcased the technological breakthroughs Samsung made ahead of the competition.

Signed new deal with Chelsea

Samsung Electronics signed a five-year sponsorship deal with English Premier League Leaders Chelsea in April, 2005. The sponsorship showcased the Samsung name to an ever-widening audience.

Hosted Analyst Day event

Samsung Electronics hosted its first Analyst Day event, conducting the largest Analyst Day event ever held by an individual company in the Asian region. Samsung Electronics briefed approximately 300 guests on its current management situation and presented its mid- and long-term visions and business strategies for each individual sector.

Samsung also presented its vision to lead the digital convergence revolution. By 2007, Samsung Electronics aspired to be one of the top three companies in the world in terms of new patent holdings.

Samsung reached 100 million mobile phones shipments in 2005

Samsung Electronics announced that its annual shipments of mobile phones topped the 100 million mark in 2005, achieving this milestone 18 years after its entry into the business. Samsung’s annual shipments broke the 1 million mark in 1996 and in 10 short years managed to crack the 100 million mark.
