Mobily and Samsung shift the gears for nationwide 4G LTE network in Saudi Arabia
Samsung Electronics today announced its provision of additional Smart LTE solutions to Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), a leading mobile operator and wireless broadband provider in the Middle East and North Africa.
To provide an innovative and unbeatable mobile service, Mobily is focusing on expansion of its 4G LTE network in a number of cities and regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia using Samsung’s Smart LTE solution, the latest of its LTE product line-ups. The two companies previously worked together to introduce Saudi Arabia’s first 4G LTE and the world’s first TD LTE service in 2011.
Through this additional contract, Mobily aims to fully prepare the MENA region to cope with the expected data traffic boost created by smartphone and tablet adoption, enabling data communication speeds of 100 megabits per second. Mobily has ushered in a new era of mobile broadband in the Kingdom by being the first to provide advanced mobile services such as 3.75G HSPA, WiMAX and 4G LTE.
As part of the agreement, Samsung plans to roll out its Smart LTE solution including an additional 1,000 LTE base stations and all associated systems and network support services. In addition, Samsung will be deploying a network managed service to ensure provision of high-quality of service at all times.
Samsung Smart LTE solution is powered by advanced air resource allocation technology, providing enhanced performance and coverage by mitigating interferences among sectors and cells. Earlier this year Smart LTE was adopted for full-scale commercial service in Seoul, Korea, which is the densest urban area in the world.
Based on its wide range of field experience with OFDMA technology, Samsung has successfully entered into partnership for 4G LTE with more than 30 global operators. Samsung offers the most diverse 4G product line-up ranging from multi-standard base stations and macro base stations to pico to femto base stations supporting FDD and TDD technologies.
