Samsung Presents New Healthcare Experience at MEDICA 2013

At booth #B60 & #C60 (Hall 9), Samsung is showcasing its latest ultrasound, digital X-ray and in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) products that deliver easy, fast and accurate diagnoses that result in better patient care. Visitors will be able to witness Samsung’s expansion into various medical fields such as Radiology, Cardiology, OB/GYN and more.

UGEO WS80A is the first premium ultrasound for OB/GYN that feature innovations in display such as ‘Hello Mom,’* an Android smartphone application that wirelessly connects to the ultrasound device, allowing parents to download images and movies of the fetus. Parents can then easily share the images with family and friends and keep track of their babies’ growth using ‘Hello Mom’.

Samsung Medison is also showcasing its new handheld diagnostic devices, the UGEO HM70A and UGEO PT60A, at the conference. Both devices are versatile and can be used across a number of fields including OB/GYN, radiology, cardiology and point-of-care (POC).

Additionally, visitors to the booth will be able to see Samsung’s portable blood analyzer, the LABGEO IB10, that enables medical teams to diagnose cardiac patients while in transit to the hospital. A successful pilot** with the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland earlier this year highlighted LABGEO IB10 for bringing highly efficient emergency care to cardiac patients. Samsung will also introduce a new digital X-ray system expected for release next year that will allow hospitals to easily convert their analog X-ray and Computed Radiography devices into Digital Radiography devices.

**A pilot was conducted with the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland, Borders General Hospital (BGH), the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS), and the Scottish Centre for Telehealth and Telecare (SCTT) for the Samsung LABGEO IB10 portable blood analyzer to diagnose cardiac patients in transit to hospital. The results showed a reduction of 2.5 hours in the average time of diagnosis compared with conducting laboratory test after arrival at the hospital. The clinical abstract on this pilot received a National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (NACB) Distinguished Abstract Award in July at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC) meeting in Houston.
