Samsung Releases Whitepaper on Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN)
Samsung’s cloud-native vRAN enhances network scalability, flexibility and resource efficiency
Samsung Electronics today released the second edition of Virtualized Radio Access Network (vRAN) whitepaper, highlighting the components and benefits of its vRAN and how it can help maximize efficiencies in operators’ network deployment, operation and management, eventually reducing the total cost of ownership.
In July 2020, Samsung unveiled its fully virtualized 5G RAN (vRAN) and earlier this year, announced the successful commercialization of its 5G vRAN for a Tier One U.S. operator.
Samsung vRAN is hardware-agonistic—where the baseband functions are decoupled from the underlying hardware and can operate over a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) server. With its cloud-native and container-based architecture, Samsung vRAN enables operators to freely allocate resources and automatically scale its components depending on network traffic patterns. Operators can also add new features and introduce next-generation technologies with ease. Another benefit of its cloud-native architecture is its automation capabilities, which dramatically simplify end-to-end network management.
