More and more people are attempting to hold on to their childhoods and their youthful interests, as demonstrated by the commonly used word ‘kidult’, it appears that we have one (possibly more) in the office and he is a Samsung executive.

In my office, there are a number of people who aren’t shy to reveal their kiddie-side. They decorate their desks with action figures, plastic model robots and these collectibles . Among these people, a Samsung executive loves collectibles, so we sat together and had a chat. Here is his story.

One of these treasures was his polar bear collection sitting on his desk, and the other were the paper-planes hanging on the ceiling.

Like many kidults who love cute and adorable toys, Senior Vice President Joo Sun Choi ,from DRAM Product & Technology, has his own special toys. He showed us his two treasures.

“As I am getting older, I sometimes forget to pay attention to myself and my surroundings because I am too busy. That’s why I try very hard not to lose my childhood passions and make an effort to be happy, like Peter Pan. This lifestyle gives me peace of mind, motivation and the energy to work. What about you?”

At first, people questioned the collectibles but now colleagues smile at them. These action figures brighten up the mood during meetings with Senior Vice President Joo Sun Choi.

It was really impressive for colleagues to see that Senior Vice President Joo Sun Choi was able to better communicate with colleagues because of his frank and friendly environment.

His efforts have made his colleagues think about how they present themselves as well as to rekindle some of their childhood memories.

Senior Engineer KiHeung Kim

“In Choi’s letter he wrote, ‘as I am getting older, I was snowed under with office tasks, while neglecting my own life and my surroundings’, which really touched my heart. Thank you for letting me know that we all need to take a rest occasionally in this rapidly changing world.”

Senior Engineer Jeongha Kim

“We all have an inner child that we ignore. I think Senior Vice President is really cool because he does not ignore it and instead expresses it. I hope his lifestyle can give an impetus to all staff in the team.”

Principal Engineer Jung-Joon Lee

“Mr Choi is very strict at work but occasionally he reveals a new aspect of himself that makes me think my senior vice president is still youthful. I believe thought changes appearance as well as your surroundings. I root for this lifestyle.”

A short letter inspired people to embrace their inner child and start communicating in different ways. This interview offered me an opportunity to look back and think about my childhood.

Childhood interests were the key to building trust between Senior Vice President Joo Sun Choi and other staff. Do you have a secret Peter Pan in you? Though we now have more responsibilities, we can still dream and pursue the hobbies that inspired us when we were young. What was your childhood passion?
