More and more people are choosing a multiple monitor system to increase productivity. However, this type of setup doesn’t come without disadvantages. These include differences in height and color between the monitors, and bezels that sever the continuity of screen information. Not to mention the longer system setting times and complex array of connections.

This year, Samsung Electronics introduced the CJ89, a 49-inch curved monitor. Its screen size equals to two 27-inch monitors, providing an optimized and better workspace than a multiple monitor system. Samsung introduced a gaming monitor of the same-size, the CHG90 last year, but the CJ89 has more powerful and optimal functions for business environments, such as a built-in KVM switch, USB-Type C ports, and built-in stereo speakers.

Here, Samsung Newsroom reviews the CJ89, the super ultra-widescreen monitor that guarantees both the best work and the best leisure experiences.

Effortless Viewing Experience with 32:9 Super Ultra-Widescreen

The diagonal length of the 32:9, 49-inch curved screen is a whopping 124cm! The first thing we thought was, “Can we see everything on screen without turning our heads?” But our doubts vanished quickly once we sat in front of it. The usual procedure with dual monitors is to turn one’s head to and fro. With the CJ89, however, we could see everything effortlessly.

The secret is the 1,800R curvature of the display, which is equal to a curvature radius of 1,800mm. The monitor is curved to match the natural shape of the human eye, so the viewing experience is more comfortable with less eye strain.

The CJ89’s wide screen was very convenient to view a complex set of data at the same time. The standard ratio for office monitors is 16:9, which shows about 26 columns in Excel program. But the CJ89 showed about 52 columns, so we did not have to keep scrolling the screen left and right. Also, we could arrange two or three full-sized windows on the same screen, so we did not have to keep shifting between windows either.

It seemed the monitor could provide a way more convenient work environment, not only for graphics work that compares and edits multiple images or videos, but also for general office work that requires web searching while writing documents or analyzing various data points at the same time.

Conveniently Use Many Devices with One Monitor

The monitor images in the above graphic have been manipulated to demonstrate the screen transition feature. No brightness changes occur during actual device usage

The CJ89 has a built-in KVM switch, allowing easy maneuvering of a neat feature called ‘Picture-In-Picture (PIP) mode,’ which enables users to display multiple applications on the big screen, and  ‘Picture-By-Picture (PBP) mode’ which transforms one monitor into dual monitors.

You can select the device to be displayed on the divided screen and adjust it with one button

When connecting the CJ89 to a desktop computer, a laptop or a Dex station, it becomes more than just a big screen. Especially when we connected a smartphone to the CJ89 using a Dex Station, the UI optimized for the desktop environment made us feel like we were using a PC.

According to the user’s diverse needs, the CJ89 can be divided into two 16:9 screens, or a 21:9 and 11:9 screens. With Samsung’s Easy Setting Box software, we could choose from a variety of layouts when viewing multiple Internet windows and documents. Arranging multiple windows automatically was a breeze, as it can be done with a single click.

The CJ89 has USB Type-C ports, which is more convenient to use than its predecessors. A USB Type-C connector simultaneously delivers electric power, data, and display signal between devices. For example, a Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 can be connected to a CJ89 via the Type-C port to mirror their displays on the CJ89 and charge the battery at the same time. And a laptop, a tablet, and a desktop can also be connected via the Type-C port without an extra connection hub, and they can be displayed seamlessly on the CJ89.

More Immersive Gaming Experience

The CJ89 not only provides a better business environment, but also a better gaming experience. Gamers can enjoy an immersive experience with the monitor’s crisp 3,840×1,080 high resolution and ultra-wide screen. We played Project CARS and Need for Speed on the CJ89. On the ultra-widescreen, the racing games felt way more “realistic and exciting” than any other monitor.

The CJ89 provides 144 Hz refresh rate, which is well-suited for gaming purposes. A refresh rate means how many frames a monitor can display in a second. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the movement of the objects on the screen. The refresh rate of most monitors is 60 Hz, meaning they show 60 frames in a second. On the other hand, the CJ89 shows 144 frames in a second, so the movement of the characters and the change between the scenes were buttery smooth.

It supports 144Hz refresh rate on both windows of the screen, which makes it ideal for enjoying games with friends and family, or playing games while also watching a gaming video on YouTube or reading tips on an online forum.

In particular, the CJ89 has built-in speakers. You can enjoy a profound sound for gaming or watching videos with its 7-watt dual speakers, without having to fork out extra.

The 43-inch CJ89 monitor will be also available in the second half of this year*. If you want to excel in both work and leisure, the CJ89’s capabilities will help you to become a true multiplayer.
